Was in the same boat a couple of weeks ago. Almost decided to get a 360. But the Blu ray, free online, upgradable HDD and the fact that PS3 is (technically) more powerful than 360 made me change my mind. Also all these RROD problems(which they claim to have fixed, but still) didnt help 360's cause either.
360's are a haven for RROD but of the length of time I have had mine, I've yet to get one. *knocks on wood* I have had my PS3 spaz out on me with a yellow light once though... But I unplugged it, plugged it back in and it was just fine.
I have both - play a lot more on PS3 - also Blu- Ray is huge. I did not see anyone mention how easy it is to upgrade the PS3 hard drive - takes about 5 minutes... and it uses standard drives used in notebooks... My Xbox 360 - much as I love a number of games - has had RROD 3 times - last time was just a couple of months ago - out of warranty, but they still replaced for free - I think MS knows how sensitive this subject still is. PS3 has never had a hiccup...
I've had my 360 for a few years and I've gotten the RROD twice now but I just turned it off and back on and it was fine. My brother just got a PS3 yesterday though so pretty soon I'll be deciding which one I like best. The most important factor to me is my friends. I do most of my gaming with my friends and most of them have an Xbox so even if the PS3 were the better system, I'd go with the 360. As everyone else says though, the online is better but also more expensive. I find nowadays that the PS3 is getting more exclusive, high quality games such as God of War 3 and Uncharted. But arguing for one or the other is never gonna work. It's like arguing for Red or Blue. It all depends on you in the end.
Yeah, when I first saw this thread I thought it was just going to turn into a massive flame-war. Surprisingly there has been some good quality, civilised discussion and no fannyboyism.
It helps that this is a iDevice website and not some flat-out gaming website cause that's where the discussion gets really heated.
Well, if you have a 40 inch TV, no M games, and no online, I would have to say PS3. I have an xbox, but from what I hear PS3 is a much better media center, so it would complement the nice TV, and it is a very nice console. Note: I only got an xbox because that my school's main console.
Pretty much all the good xbox games are rated "M" and are online, so I would say get a ps3. If you get your parents to let you have mature games and online I would say get an xbox, though.
I think I am going to have a f*cked up kid. I won't really have a problem with my son playing games that are too violent when he turns teenage... Maybe even sooner depending on how mature he turns out. But I was raised on videogames that were a little on the violent side (Mortal Kombats, Demon's Crest, Wolfenstein, DOOM) and I turned out fine... sort of. I mean no offence or anything, but I just feel bad for kids with parents that shelter them from that stuff... but to each his own. That's a whole 'nother subject to tackle there.
I probably won't let my kids play video games until they're about 10. In my opinion, young kids should be outside exploring and learning of their environment.
Yeah, that's how I was brought up. And it works well IMO. I consider myself to be pretty educated especially when it comes to nature and I generally love being outdoors.
GT: DDR Midian PSN: MidianGTX I'm not on the 360 so much anymore and my subscription ran out ages ago so all my online interaction is with the PS3.
Well.... False. There was an interview where sony said that they are proud of their free online and will always keep what they have being free. However, they said that they may add premium features to the online in the future. So you might be able to pay for more features later. For me though, I'd go for the PS3. My friend and I always used to go to his house to play Xbox 360. However, this christmas, I got a PS3 and we haven't been over there since. That's significant because we hang out at least 3 times a week. So we play a lot more PS3.
Well, it depends on you. If you enjoy watching films in high definition and surfing on the internet you should get a PS3. I'm a big XBox360 fan but a XBox360 is pretty worthless without online multiplayer. I hope I could help you.
The browser on the ps3 is probably one of the most useless features on there, so please don't let a browser influence which console you get.
My opinion: If you're gonna be playing a lot of multiplayer, go with the Xbox 360. If you're going to focus on single player games, go with the PS3. The consoles are practically equals in terms of performance, pick a strength.
PS3 - No batteries needed for controller, free online play, doesn't need separate wireless adapter. Less headaches. X360 - I only use for exclusive hit games, and there aren't that many.
