The original Halo was released 17th November 2001 http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Halo_(series) The original Metroid Prime was released 15th November 2002, almost a year later. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Metroid_Prime Regardless of however old Metroid is, Metroid Prime can't compare to the original Halo which came nearly a year earlier. You obviously don't know the 'shit that you are talking'.
LBG, I'm not taking sides here, but do you think the Metroid Prime series is a ripoff of the Halo series?
Halo is about getting bored while shooting aliens, Metroid Prime is about getting bored while being lost
It's not boring when you have friends. I honestly don't get some of you people. You put down some great games merely because they are popular. You're like those music snobs, except with games.
Talking about Halo? I finished it on Legendary in 4-player co-op, it was average at best. A couple of years down the line and it's just plain dull.
Not entirely, I think Metroid was originally a great franchise, that went bad with Metroid Prime. I just think that Metroid Prime was a bad attempt at a 3D game, which was influenced by the release of Halo. Yeah, lol. I don't really like sci-fi FPS games (and I don't quite understand all of the hype surrounding them), but of the 2, I think Halo is the better one.
I see what you mean. But halo (all of them) is meant to be played with friends. Otherwise it's not fun.
Corruption has been out for more than 2 years now. A game doesn't have good level design just because is more "open". Like I said, the Prime games are considered to have the best level design of pretty much any other game out there because they are huge, huge alien worlds interconnected in a seamless way, and you can explore them any way you want. Of course, if you are a brain-dead person, these games can be quite daunting. Pulling out level design like that requires way, way, waaaaaaaaay more talent than a basic, linear progression such as in Uncharted. That's why I said Prime. 3 butt rapes that game.
This has to be the worst counterargument I've seen yet. So according to your retarded logic, the Prime games tried to copy Halo? Ahahhahahahahahahahagahaahaha!
Ah I see. I don't know, I really liked how good the metroid games looked (for the wii) but I'm more of a third person gamer. Just more enjoyable to me. Metroid had good level design, but all of the backtracking was kinda tedious to me.
Oh right, that's why Metroid Prime is one of the highest rated games of all time. Have some dignity and stop arguing with me. You just come up as a pretentious, ignorant prick.
Understandable. Here's an analogy: some people prefer to see, say, Transformers 2 rather than Citizen Kane. To the average person, T2 is awesome because Omg! the visuals and the action!, but when it comes to analyze the real meat of the product, Citizen Kane destroys the aforementioned movie. The same applies to the comparisons I've made in the thread so far.
Wow aren't you clever. Getting extreme nerd rage and defending a game like you gave birth to it is one thing, getting abusive and resorting to language like that is another, and isn't generally tolerated in life (haven't you learnt that yet?).
Just saying that something you say is a fact does not in fact make it a fact. I'm still waiting for you to "prove" that Metroid "rapes" Uncharted. Preferably, with pictures. I'd like to know how one game case goes about raping another. Except that pretty much everything you've said has been pulled out of your ass. I like the Prime series ok, but it's nothing special IMO. I'd take a 2D sequel to Super Metroid any day of the week over any of the Prime games. Here's my take on the Mario/Zelda/Metroid series in general. They're all basically the same games each time. Mario 64, Sunshine, Galaxy all have the same core. They try to mix it up, water cannon in Sunshine, gravity in Galaxy, but they're still basically the same games with new levels. Zelda: same thing, explore huge overworld, fight in various dungeons to get the item you need to advance. Metroid: explore maze like levels while searching for the next item you need to advance, blast a few aliens and scan something for the millionth time. They've all been the same core game for years, just with minor enhancements and upgrades each time. Don't get me wrong, I love all these franchises dearly, and I love and have owned all the games I'm talking about. They're all fantastic in they're own way. But it's true, Nintendo is famous for finding a winning formula, and then rinsing and repeating until they're forced into finally re-imagining a franchise. Wii has been very successful, but I don't think they've done anything truly innovative besides slap motion controls onto all their franchises. The Wii is a novel idea, but the flood of crap games and the overall gimmicky nature of it really turned me off. I had a Wii at launch, and mostly just used it to play Virtual Console. I've since sold it, and haven't missed it once. The truly innovative stuff, and the "games for gamers" are really only happening on Xbox and PS3 right now, IMO. I've totally lost track of the point I was trying to make, which is nobody can "prove" a franchise/console is better than another, not even you Omegaf. Oh, and I almost forgot [insert generic "every console has positives and negatives and is good in their own way so it's stupid to sit here and argue over it" remark].
Yeah, it is... and Uncharted 2 is up there as well. Pitting them against each other is just pathetic. What I said is totally true, you're arguing about level design, and level design is what many people complained about since you're forced to work back through boring empty corridors and rooms. I doubt you've even played Uncharted 2, we all know you're a 360 fanboy anyway so that gives you the perfect motive to mindlessly and stupidly hate on it's exclusives. How you can even call me ignorant after you blatantly post your own biased opinion as fact, and then pretend you have some ethereal knowledge of gaming that proves this crap point to be true is simply beyond hypocritical.
Well, I don't know why I bothered typing out my last post when you're basically doing a great job of making an ass of yourself on your own.
