Hey! We are developing a new iPhone / iPod app (non game) and could really need some input / feedback on our icon design! The app is about finding and showing other apps on sale, gone free etc. What do you think? Is it eye-catching enough? Does it fit the app? We will draw a random winner of the iTunes Gift Card on monday morning! Thanks!!!
I must say the color choices are perfect for the finance difference that you are showcasing. It really has a glimmer to it that would make the app much more identifiable then any other app doing the same process. That is your strong point in this icon is that it catches the eye and actually has depth to it. I love that it uses 1.99 as its price changing point because as a buyer I would much rather see a product go from a higher drop then 99 cents to free. It allows the user to also financially connect with said icon. The icon to me represents the idea of new price roll outs and that is the function I see in the icon. I have been looking at it for a bit and thought what it would look like on my screen and I have to say that it fits. It is not flashy but at the same time is not so dull that it gets put into a folder and away from the other "name noticeable" brand icons. Great Job!
Good icon But I would maybe add something like slot arm on the side to make it more appealing but it does look great.
I would tilt the perspective back a little bit to make the yellow price smaller and the free price bigger. In any case, the "free" should be bigger and more prominent
Yes, the icon is very cool and nice in my opinion. I love the design and it looks clear and well made. Nice job. Any more questions let me know
Agree with the above's comment. To show the effect, the $1.99 should be half way tucked/rolled into the "magic box" (I call that. Lol) P/s: adding a strike on the $1.99 could be another option to tell the whole story. Now I wish AppStore would allow iPhone App's icon to be animated
Good lookin icon. The gray could use a touch up though. make it a little shinier. But overall, very good.
Bigger Free I agree and think that the Free sign should be bigger. Keep in mind that the actually icon that shows will be much smaller that so make sure people can see the words and most importantly the free. A slash would help too.
If it wouldn't complicate things too much, I would have more than one price feeding in from the top, for example two prices and free coming out of the bottom . The way it is now, it could be taken to mean there are apps at both price points as opposed to ones that are dropping to free.In addition, there are often apps that cost more such as 2.99 or even $4.99 that are given away temporarily to get more exposure and feedback. I think seeing a higher price going in would catch someone's eye even more. So...for example, coming into the machine from the left corner could be a triangular sign or slightly folded piece of paper saying 1.99 and from the right corner one saying 3.99 or 4.99 with a couple of small red arrows showing they are feeding into the machine. Then on the bottom , on the "free " sign could be a couple of small red arrows pointing to the front so that , all in all, it looks like something is being fed into the machine with a price and coming out free. That's my own two cents but in the end it will be whatever combination of suggestions works for you. : )
I like the icon, but... Possibly if it looked more like a paper shredder with $1.99 being fed in, but "Free" coming out, I think that would be simplistic, yet show exactly what you're trying to say. The icon MUST be Retina also. Thanks for seeking ideas from the TA community and of course for the contest!
Everyone seems to like the icon. I agree that it looks fine in terms of the quality of the graphic. However, I believe it could be improved from a "sales and marketing" perspective. My primary concern is that it doesn't immediately convey the purpose of the application. For example, my first impression was that "it involves money and could try to get cash out of me". My suggestion is to feature a vivid yellow background with the word "SALE" written across it in black. There's no mistaking what that simplistic icon is about. In effect, you would be recreating a sale sign, which might appear in a retail store window. The yellow background would be eye-catching, which is why it's commonly used for "Sale" signs. The success of this design would depend on the readability of the text. Each time I saw the yellow "SALE" sign on my iPad, I would feel inspired to check if any more sales have been announced. That's my suggestion!
