Umm.. eliminate is free and you dont pay to play. You can pay to expand your game but it isnt neccessary.

Anyway I hate these topics. DLC is something you can buy to improve/expand/add-on to your game. Like CnC maps. Or Songs for taptap. No one says you have to buy them at all. So if you dont like it then dont buy them. Its pretty simple.

    Jeez. Thanks Hodapp.
I just think a lot of developers could end up getting a bit greedy with the paid content model and we will be left with bits and pieces. Keep bringing me good fully formed games that's what I want.

    Eliminate

I think in eliminate its fine, because of the matchmaking system. They only group you with people around your same level, so if someone pays to get to a higher level much quicker, than they will only be playing with other high levels, so it shouldnt affect your game experience. And I dont think there's much competition in Touch Pets Dogs, is there? So that shouldnt matter too much, unless you really want to get good at it.

Where i DO agree on this matter, is with the text "MMO" games like iMod, etc. This is becuase the people who pay, say, $100 to get really good items will be able to assasinate you much easier or however it works (haven't palyed it in a long time because of this issue).

honestly no self respecting developer or decent game will be like that. DLC is out for xbox and ps3 but no one gets a disc saying "this is a demo, download the rest now". It wont happen because people(most people) are smart enough.

    ok guys

ok guys, I didn’t mean all downloadable content, I’m just talking about the unfair advantage people have in games such as eliminate because they are willing to fork out tons of money for the stupid power cells and weapon/suit upgrades. Does it not seem unfair? Eliminate would be awesome if you were required to throw down 10 bucks for it and then have an even, awesome online playing field. I love the graphics and everything about eliminate but the fact is, if you dont lay down a bunch of money you get crappy gear.

I think the DLC idea will bounce around and eventually settle wherever the market tells it too. If people get tired of paying to play Eliminate the devs will think of another strategy.

If every game uses this "pay as you play" method then far fewer games will be purchased and played by consumers. The market will find a balance naturally. I, for one, will never give in to ngmoco's current strategy. I think they're asking a bit much.

I believe in-app purchase has its place in gaming. BUT, the original game must be worth the purchase price in the first place and DLC should only be new content, not more powerful shit to give you an advantage. Case in point: ngmofo's lame duck fps shooter.

I don't really like the concept of free game with DLC. It is a scam. They design it so that you have to buy DLC to play. It's lame. If the game cannot be played properly without buying DLC, don't make it free. Case in point again: ngmofo's pet dog crap. You have to buy dog food and toys to pay the free game? WTF, which genius at ngmofo came up with the dumb idea. iPuppyWorld got it right. Paid game, free food, toy for players to enjoy the game.

What do you guys think of a periodic fee for online play? Say $1.99/week or something like that, for an online game that you download for free.

There's gotta be some recurring income to keep the servers running.

    hmm

Maybe if they were cheap yearly or monthly subscriptions like World of Warcraft or something. 3 bucks a week seems pretty steep and if there were monthly or yearly charges more people would buy them and then enough money would be brought in. As long as there is an even playing field and you are not pressured into buying stupid upgrades.
