Here is my opinion if it matters I looked at the video I promise you 10 seconds past and I exited it out it looked so boring and I appealing to me. I am a female gamer and I love a variety of games including RPGs as well as casual games but this one is just so dull. I agree with the poster above families usually share an account or most people just view the video with no account. Most of the apps I buy I don't even look at game trailers unless I see it on touch arcade's upcoming out tonight post.
Thanks for all the comments about YouTube accounts and for the other comments, well thank you too. The gender stats for my trailer now show as "N/A". Maybe even google can see that the gender stats where more error than data. As to the comments about the trailer itself. I'm not sure what people were expecting from a puzzle game which is a variation on a jigsaw. I'll have to put lasers or swords into my next game. Maybe lasers and swords . Matthew
If i was a girl on a forum i wouldnt announce it ! On past forums i've been on the second a girl appears she seems to get 'chatted up' by some idiots via PM, embarassing. Then again with 'some' guys into 'my little pony' type stuff now it doesnt matter if a game does seem like its suited for girls, seems like a lot of boys will like that as well. Still dont understand it ! Must be getting old(er)
Oh, that's never happened to me... I must be old My Little Pony is actually a perfect example of something thats good and is marketed to girls - its pink, its pretty, but there is more to it so it doesn't suck. Gender is too broad a categorisation, but an action platformer for girls who like action platformers would be very different to an action platformer for blokes who like action platformers.
You wanna pm with me? Haha. Did that make you feel better? Actually one game that I do like that seems to be a good unisex game is Whale Tail. It has nice cutesy graphics but is still fun for a hardcore gamer like myself.
As a female gamer over 25 XD hahahha, in my opinion, it depends on her environment. I do like RPG and MMO games and facebook games makes me bored. Maybe its because I've went to engineering college and most of my friends are males and they play RPG and MMO games. And now I'm working in a game company and still do love RPG and MMO. Our marketing dept is almost girls but developers are all guys..
Hi ColeyWoley. Thanks for mentioning The Mary Sue. Can you please mention some other media which you like and read? This can be very helpful for most developers who are men. Thanks in advance!
There are lots of private geek communities in Facebook, but like said, they are private and are picky about men. But then again, marketing for geek communities are bit of shooting in the dark with causal games.
I'm a female under the age of 25. Can understand your target is females.. I think females tend to have a more logical mind, therefore seeking games which require problem solving. I almost feel guilty when I play hours of mindless games.. Atleast when I solve puzzles all day it sort of feels productive in some way, and sharpens my mind. I also don't mind playing games where you can showcase your artistic abilities.. I've sink many hours into minecraft and not ashamed to admit it. I love mmorpgs more than just plain rpgs, though I love rpgs too. Queens crown brought me lots of enjoyment, not into the hardcore stuff like world of Warcraft or anything though. Puzzle is my preferred genre. Really want to get into marketing. I think it's silly men tend to stereotype most people on gaming forums are men.. I think they'd be atleast 25% women.. Though no one really knows because no one clarifies in each post that they are a female, and if they do, they're probably 12 years old thinking theyre hardcore or something. Or a nigerian male looking for a gullible guy to scam. I'm the biggest nerd out but always get put into a different stereotype. Most men are quite shocked when I can kick their ass at Mario kart.. My male friends often play along, letting aquaintices think I'm a princess, making bets that I can't beat them and then I take everything they own. I think women can easily be better, or atleast just as good as men at gaming because women have a logical mind, therefore work out the best strategy to use to win, where as men are better at hardcore button mashing, and are good by experience, working out the shortcuts after many hours of grinding. I think most men underestimate women gamers.
A female version of touch arcade? That would be very us and them, no? I'm not impressed with the facebook comment thing. Haha, I adore first person shooters. Unless i'm the exception?
Pretty good article http://www.gamasutra.com/view/news/179853/As_a_woman_Misconceptions_in_the_diversity_discussion.php Check out this brief but good write-up on women and gaming. Our company has a lot of women in the staff so the topic is very relevant to us.
Hmmm, sorry, The Mary Sue is all I can think of that's gender specific. I met Sheri Graner Ray (the founder of Women in Games International) at GCAP earlier this week (awesome con btw) and her book on gender inclusive design looks pretty interesting. And MHille, thanks, Starky is happy to hear that
