Without question, the Egyptians. Although they only became an empire in the Middle Kingdom. Their technology, engineering, government, were all second to none. We still can't fully explain how they pulled off some of their accomplishments. P.S. I put "without question" jokingly, because I understand that there will be many other possible choices, although I really do think it's the Egyptians.
Kind of a random thread, but anyway.... I think it's clearly the Roman Empire, It wasn't the largest ever but it completely dominated the (known) world for over a thousand years. When you consider that America has only been around a little more than two hundred, it kinda can blow your mind. Edit: Archaeological evidence seems to show that in about 500 AD they were close to technology we didn't get until the 1700s. Technology like running water and steam houses wasn't rediscovered for over a thousand years. Also the organized road system and complex government was far ahead of anything before it.
Has to be the British Empire. Paved the way for the modern world and without it who knows we might not even have electricity or USA as we know it. Also it was the largest but the Empire had to end after being broke due to the two world wars. Which then led the way for the USA to be the worlds super power.
+1 ,usa not exist without Britain, the truth is that Europe colonized usa, and exists only because of us.
Or the Aztecs . Third Reich as a choice? That's the empire Hitler created. Odd. Voted for Ottoman's btw, don't know why.
I think it would be the Roman Empire for longevity and language, the Mongol Empire for sheer size, and the Egyptian Empire for having the coolest way of removing the brain of their dead leaders.
Kinda overrated, the Roman empire is. Sure, they were around for a while, but their era of peace lasted, what, 80 years? The rest of the time was filled with dissent, double crossing, and separation. The Catholic Church striving for survival, different groups rising up, it's just one big mess that's in general called an "empire". I'd go with either the Mongols (intelligent leaders for the most part, huge expansion, great trade and knew how to treat their people) or the Ottomans, which did great technologically and government wise. Qing is probably the worst off of the group. China was ****ed up at the time.
Third Reich was actually quite impressive, land conquered wise. They conquered nearly all of Europe and all the useful land in Russia (all the way to Stalingrad). To put it in perspective here is a map. Of course the fact it only lasted for a relatively short period of time and carried out terrible things take away from it, but it was still a large empire over Europe
I picked the Third Reich, because it was a lot harder to pull off than the others IMO. If you think about it, the Third Reich was able to decieve their entire country in an era where science and overall freedom were taking quantum leaps. The mere fact they were able to bamboozle their citizens into believing the crap they put out, and STILL manage to gain a ton of land makes me think they're the winners on this one.
Ghengis Khan, you mean? That'd be the Mongols. Why is everyone voting the Roman Empire? They didn't give us architecture, philosophy, or all that much literature. Meh, personal opinion. I guess I'll have to respect it.
