I think my first download was google earth. First paid app I think was Crash Bandicoot Nitro. Before the appstore I was playing Touch Physics and some Tap Tap game from Cydia though. Edit: Actually I guess Cydia wasn't even around yet back then. From Installer.
First Download: Tris (still the only Tetris game I own) First Purchase: Crash Nitro Cart I still play both
First downloaded Trace. Still play it occasionally, it's that fun. My first bought app, hmm, probably SciFly. Good game
Wait, does that say $8? Do you know why you people suck? Because all this talk about Pocket God makes me want to get it. I HAVE WORK TO DO!
My first app, free or paid was Kindle for iPhone (!). My next 30 purchases were all utilities, like Air-Sharing, Tweetie and iCatch-all Tools. Only with my 37 purchase did I get a 99 cent "game" -- iWeapons! I remember how cool, utterly cool I felt making that trigger sound like a gun. My God, it was just a year ago, but it seems so childish now. My very next purchase was the Michelin Guide for 18.99, yikes. I never use it. But the next one after that (which hooked me on app games forever) was... "Texas Hold'em, v1.1, Seller: Apple Inc. (12+) Write a Review Report a Problem $4.99" I STILL PLAY Texas Hold'em. Not sure why Apple do not actually make apps themselves, as this game's graphics are fantastic. So realistic. It was the best $4.99 I've spent to date. P.S.: I had to go back to my iTunes Store receipts in my mail folder. Actually, it turned out to be pretty cool to walk on the nostalgic side, so thanks to the OP for making me to do so.
My first download was Cannon Game I think. Fun game and it was free. That and Cube were the first downloads. My first purchases were Brothers in Arms (still the third best shooter on my iPod, right behind Sandstorm and Eliminate) and TouchGrind which is still fun. Some of the best money I've spent in the appstore.
First game was Bejeweled. I had recently started playing the PC version at the time, and was completely hooked. The iDevice version worked so well (swipe controls), that I stopped playing the PC version all together. First actual App I bought though, was BeatMaker. It was the reason I restored/upgraded my then 1.1.4 jailbroken 1st gen iPhone. I bought it the day 2.0 came out. Still think it's worth $20.
Mine was Crash Bandicoot, or Super monkey ball.. hmm, monkey ball was the best, played it A LOT! completed it 2 times, crash bandicoot was great too, but a little short i'd say a shame, it was a nice game...
Fieldrunners. That gave me the impression that all iPhone games were of good quality. Man I was wrong...
