Wow I would have never thought of that(at least not that quick) and I am a pretty creative person. Way to compensate! Is there blocking? If not holding both punch buttons could be a good way to incorporate a feature like that.
Thanks! And thank you very much for your help on OpenAL. It made a great difference. Thanks also to Schenk Studios, VP, Full Control & Wit. You have all been great. Blocking is not included in my game. Why? Because I think it looks SO much cooler when you are quick enough to dodge to the side of a punch, then straighten up as they retract their arm and hit 'em with a 4 hit combo right in the chops! I am not a big fan of holding both buttons at the same time. I don't think it works very well in Iron Fist. It works better in Smack Boxing, but I prefer not to use this method and keep things simple. At the moment, it's easy enough to control even my 6 year old daughter can wallop the gangs arses (on the first rank at least)!
Following on from this, I haven't said that you can actually hook or uppercut punch without having to use a 3 or 4 hit combo. The way to do this is to dodge to that side first, then immediately punch. So, to uppercut for example, you uppercut using your right fist. So dodge to the right. Then as you let go of the dodge button and come back to normal stance, hit the right punch button, and you should (if timed quickly enough) perform an uppercut. This works with left hooks and dodging left too. As these moves are considered more powerful than the standard left jab and right straight punches, then dodging to the appropriate side can be considered "charging up" for the stronger punch. So in effect, although they are not "supermoves", I have already got such a system in place. The disadvantage of these attacks are they are not part of a combo when initiating this way, and so are only good for a quick powerful hit, and also you'd have to make sure the opponent doesn't hit you as you dodge to the side (if you dodge to the left but the opponent hits with his/her right for example, it will make contact- and vice versa with the other side).

I dont think you would have that problem because your art is cartoony. Not like realistic blood, just something along the lines of Zombieville. Another suggestion, maybe have different levels of beaten-up-ness, like say you pound the enemy a couply times in the head and he starts to have a bloody nose. Couple more hits, a black eye. See where im going with this?
Again, something I already thought of. But it would take a lot of work and extra pressure on memory usage, something I had a hard time trying to overcome. It's amazing how quickly you run out of RAM, even with just a few menus and a couple of characters beating the crap out of each other. Adding more sprites to the screen overlaying the face of the opponent and following the face's movement and changing the sprite when the character gets hit and they turn their face etc, all seems like too much work just for a small effect which has no impact on the actual gameplay. Great idea- just not worth the trouble with 2D animation I'm afraid.
Yuthe, mate, don't know if ya read it earlier today CONGRATS! Instant D/L for me Good Luck. You have got to do an air combat title next you know exactly what is needed in the genre. And you know I'm a sucker for those games so it would be a for sure sale. Cheers buddy.
Oh wow. I don't know why, but the animations reminded me of Rocket Robin Hood. That's so weird. But it looks like a pretty good effort -- congrats.

bad suggestions guys heres what you do make a donkey version (democrat) where you punch and beat up the elephant, john mccain, george bush, ronald reagen, sarah plain ect. and you kill them as the donkey then make a elephant version (republican) where you beat up joe biden, barack obama, hillary clinton, bill clinton (they can have a tag team match) and the donkey im serious i would buy both or you could just make a libertarian version where everyone beats up ron paul!!!!

Thanks pal. I would love to do an air combat game. However, to do one properly would require learning 3D which I know nothing about yet.
