What bothers people is being told something is close, and then it disappears. If people are simply told a game is being made and then don't hear anything for six months, no big deal most of the time, but when every article says "ready soon," "almost ready," "released soon," and then you don't hear anything for several months, that's when people get frustrated. Especially when the next article or post also says "ready soon," and then nothing happens again. Honestly, I haven't seen enough info to know if this is a game I'm excited about or not. The premise looked interesting, but I don't know near enough about the details. Anyway, good luck to the devs with it.
what games have done what you have just said? Everyone keeps saying this, how they'll stay away from games that nickel and dime them, that doesn't really seem to be the case, so I would wait until the game is released before freaking out. I think the majority of developers realize, app store gamers are pretty cheap people and barely want to pay for a one-time purchase game, let-alone a broken game that requires DLC to fix it. I'm sure we won't have very many issues with this.
All this extra time has been really good for Warpgate. Warpgate was way too finished when the ngmoco deal started. But we did need to delay the release just because of paperwork alone. Right now we are gearing up for a great release. And a standard release (not Free to play, nothing out of the normal). There will be DLC in Warpgate, that is entirely optional and not needed at all to play the game. And I mean seriously. There's nothing to cripple or even slow down the game. The DLC came later in the game's life after the story and everything was finished. The DLC is just to help extend the game, and for the really hardcore players to try out new ways to play the game. I really do wish I could tell you guys more, but higher-ups than me need to keep the lid on a few things for just a bit longer. I think you will all be very happy with how Warpgate turned out. Sorry to keep teasing and not reply enough. It's not 'cause I don't value you guys (I do you are the awesome vocal customers that make me smile to know people want my game). It is honestly the vast amount of work we've been putting in, the late hours and weekends.
Kind of amazing how quiet Specter800 and iball have suddenly become. In any event, thanks for the update Hippieman.
Ok, you're right, I overreacted, but the whole freemium model ngmoco is relying on right now is something I'd prefer not to have much of in a game. I'd rather just pay for everything up front than having to pay for things along the way. And while the system has its perks, that doesn't mean it's perfect and can't be used in more harmful than beneficial way.
Not if Freeverse's new boss has anything to say about it... Yeah, Freeverse and Ngmoco are dead to me now.
Gee, wish we could have known this a while back. Then why didn't you go ahead and release it? That makes no sense. Your new boss says ALL of your current - and future - games will be horrible Freemium apps. Hmm...who are we going to believe. You or the guy who writes your paychecks? Somehow I just can't believe this at all. Why? Because earlier you said it was "too finished" and only needed some "paperwork" done. Now you say you just spontaneously decided to "add" DLC to it that somehow isn't needed yet is for only "hardcore" players? Why? So they can cram some more "Freemium" into it? You mean the late hours and weekends the lawyers and accountants spent working on the Ngmoco deal AND you guys cramming in DLC after the game was already "too finished"? Sorry Freeverse, you went to the dark side and I hope you fail horribly.
Actually, his "boss" says none of the current games or Warpgate are going to be freemium. http://toucharcade.com/2010/02/22/ngmoco-ceo-neil-young-on-the-freeverse-acquisition-and-freemium-model/ arn
iball... I respect the effort it took to quote and comment on 8 different things in one post. But you're a ranting fool. To fuel your rage, you are selective with what you are reading. It has been stated numerous times Warpgate will be released as planned. And if it was converted to freemium w/ DLC, why rush to judgement...? You hope failure upon a company that has released some of the best games for the App Store? We will see how it all works out... and consumers will ultimately decide if the freemium model is succesful... yourself included.
Thank you. Give them a chance, even if it became freemium, it really shouldn't affect you if you want it that much. And now that its confirmed that it won't be freemium, there's nothing to worry about. Just wait patiently with everyone else and then enjoy it when it comes out.
Dude, all that rage is going to make you die young. Very slowly step away from your computer, head to the nearest door/window and breathe deeply. Pretty much all your bashing of hippeman, has been proven incorrect. If you would read a little more carefully, you'd see that too.
woah... Thats some very nice bashing though I personally don't have a problem with Freemium. I think it's a good idea by their lawyers I'll pay for the DLC
Hippieman - Are you allowed to tell us how long till the actual game release? I read the article on Neil Young's interview on the front page. What I don't like about DLC is that there are some of us, including myself, who are willing to pay good money ($8-12) for well made and polished games. Therefore we do not fall into the category of those who only buy free games. We are the ones who will not be impressed by the Freemium model, as we see it just as a revenue multiplier. Therefore I have held back from Eliminate, and like to do so with God Finger, although I find the latter very interesting. On the other hand, like someone has posted, DLC for additional content is a good concept.
To be truthful. I do not find that Eliminate really holds me back with the Freemium Model. I believe in one day you cannot really spend THAT much time playing Eliminate on your ipod and on top of that I only play for the fun so the credits don't really matter to me.
oaqque - Can I ask how much roughly have you spent on Eliminate so far? Including all the credits/top up etc.
why not just get the free game, then buy your 8-12 dollars of content. It's pretty much the same thing.
Well those of you who plays Eliminate - can you tell us how much in total have you spent on playing the game? I'm trying to see whether the amount will be greater than what we would pay for a game the old fashioned way. As Fleabag has pointed out, some of us think that by periodically pumping in money, you will end up spending more. Plus - if I recall correctly - one of the criticisms of Eliminate after release was the fun was taken out by those who would buy tons of 'upgrades' and winning not with skills. Is this still a problem?
I've spent exactly $0 on Eliminate. I have 2 sets of fully upgraded armor and 3 fully upgraded weapons. I'm level 64 and I was able to get something like 300 free power cells by trying out other free ngmoco games. Good deal for no money. I can play whenever I want, I just can't earn credits all the time. The Freemium model is really not that big of a deal. Certainly not in proportion to the amount of hate it gets.
