Not really, when you consider how long this has been in the works, it's been longer than NFSU which felt like FOREVER. like I said, I really don't care at this point. If it comes out I may take a peak but in the time it's take them to release this many other suitable games have come out like Space Ore Bust.. Time IS money, and freeverse is losing both on this game
QFT I have absolutely no issue with Freeverse if they decide to release this a few months down the line. My main beef is how long they keep insisting that it's "basically finished" only to have it disappear into oblivion for months at a time. I have tons of faith in Freeverse to produce top-tier games (which I'm sure this one will be) and I'm being critical here mainly because of my intrigue in Warp Gate. iPhone development is a sticky business and release dates are often difficult to live up to/pinpoint, and I appreciate this element of the business, but I wish they'd keep us a little up to date on the progress of development.
I agree. I think it would be both really nice of them and really wise to take ten minutes once a week to post an update on the progress of the game. It would be free publicity, what's not to like?
Agreed, with both prior posts. Time isn't the issue, it's just the major dearth/lack of updates and tendency of this game to disappear from the public view so often that's annoying.
My sentiments exactly. It makes me think this will never come. It's been "a few weeks off" for about half a year lol. It's ok tho, I've got Space Miner to handle my space craving
I'm not sure how much I can say, but it's apparent that something needs to be said. Warpgate is coming soon. It is pretty much finished. It's in beta right now and is being play tested and tweaked. It's not ready for release yet, but should be soon. It's also pretty damn awesome. (doesn't work for Freeverse).
I hate to say this, but the same thing has been said monthly for like half a year now. Idk if this is a joke (I know I laughed) but it looks like copypasta from august...
So You don't work for Freeverse, and you are saying whats been said before on many occasions. Why should we believe you? Got any proof? So what another month? 2? 3? What?
This is probably the game im most excited for, but there are a few other space trader sims in development too so I hope this comes out first
How interesting. My post from 28 Jan 2010: ----- I haven't asked for an update on every little change. As I posted I (and some of us here on the forums) were dismayed that there have been NO information for a good period of time. I'll keep quiet now coz I have been ranting about this constantly here on this thread. I look forward to the release - when it happens. ----- You guys are basically saying the same thing as I said back then. And Lydia - who I think is the PR person for Freeverse, gave a (in my opinion) quite rude and exaggerated response. They think that our requests for info is too much, or at least that is what their interpretation of it is (see bold text). To be honest I was quite surprised and slightly angry with the response with Lydia. What's wrong with a bit of info? Just cannot believe the attitude. We give them the bucks at the end of the day.
Sorry guys, the lack of updates is my fault. I've not been on the ball with keeping you guys updating. The black wolf is one of our beta testers (a small beta, sorry I didn't have enough slots to extend it to TA or I immediately would of). I hate to be so cryptic, but the game is being finished up for a release that will make sense when it happens. You just got to trust me. A lot of things have been going on (http://techcrunch.com/2010/02/22/ngmoco-25-million-series-c-buys-freeverse/) that we couldn't talk about.
So what you're saying is that now Warp Gate is going hideously "free-to-play" with a ton of in-app purchases instead of a full, complete game one can purchase once from the app store? If so, then ick. That would be nickle-n-diming us. I hope this won't the case though.
So is Warp Gate going to be a Freemium game then? I recall Freeverse had planned DLC content for the game in the early stages. Suppose it is the same idea... Personally I don't like DLC...
I like DLC when it's an add-on, such as an additional adventure to an already fully-fleshed out game. You know, where the DLC is not REQUIRED to finish the game. I DETEST DLC when it's a "Chapter" or some such garbage that is needed to fully finish a game. Imagine if 24 was an iPhone game where you had to pay $0.99 for each "hour" episode. Yuck.
So does that mean that Warp Gate will be debuted after ngmoco gives some big press conference in the near future about the promise of the freemium model in the app store market and that said model is the way to go for future app games? And Warp Gate will act as a flagship for the freemium model? I'm all for in game DLC, it just depends on what that DLC happens to be. If I have to buy the game chapter by chapter (like iball's 24 analogy), then well hell no. If you want to nickel and dime me for every hour or so of gameplay, I'll gladly spend my money elsewhere in the app store. Also, if I have to buy multiple things just to make the game enjoyable (The only example I can think of, is a case in which in online multiplayer games, players buy things that somehow give them an edge over free/nonplaying players. This probably doesn't apply to Warp Gate as I don't remember hearing about any multiplayer stuff, but the fact that you have to pay to get an edge/perk in the game just to make it enjoyable, is something I will not enjoy). I guess, in other words, if I have to pay for multiple DLC expansions/items just to merely enjoy the game at it's finest, then that's not worth it. NOW, if the DLC is for extra missions beyond the main game (main game being around at least a few hours of solid gameplay. 5 or more hours would be nice. I'd wish for more, but I know this is the app store, and I can't get the 20-40 hour experiences I would expect on the consoles or gaming portables [DS or PSP].) then that's totally fine. Purely cosmetic DLC is ok with me, or maybe a special weapon or two (not every weapon in the game, however -_-).
Good news: Freeverse just said that it wont be going freemium or pay to play http://toucharcade.com/2010/02/22/freeverse-existing-games-and-upcoming-warp-gate-plans-unchanged/
Thank God. Though didn't they say they still might have in game purchase stuff or something? Or is that just me imagining things?
