Personally, I'd advise to at least try the Lites of Undercroft and The Quest. They are great old-school turn-based WRPGs and if you enjoy the Lites, you can directly transfer the saves to to the full games. Zenonia also used to have a Lite (without save transfer AFAIK) - which I personally didn't like. IMHO, character development (stats and loot) were uninteresting and the controls very clumsy. But to each their own.
Dungeon hunter is a good first-time rpg since it is heavily action-based. My favorite rpg is the quest, I really didn't enjoy CoI 2.
