Hello fellow Touch-Arcaders! I'm pretty new to this forum subscriptionwise, but I've been following it for a couple of months now so I thought it might be a good idea to sign up and get into the discussions and topics of the Touch-Arcade hot pot! As a profession i work as a musician/programmer for a small company called Spearhead Entertainment in Sweden, and what I really like making/listening to is videogame inspired music, so I thought I'd maybe check in to this thread and see if there are any fellow musicians hanging about in these quarters? and if so, maybe share some of your work for Discussion/Inspiration? I got inspired by K.D!'s awesome guitarremix of Super mario. To get things going, I'll start off by sharing two pieces of my work, hope it inspires you! http://www.newgrounds.com/audio/listen/229500 Dynamo break boss battle - alot of heavy guitar and drums, trying to create a bossy feeling http://www.newgrounds.com/audio/listen/250189 Vanguard theme version 2 - Celtic sounding, epic!
Dynamo break boss battle was pretty damn awesome. I loved the lead guitar riff, and the kinda metal sound it had. I did think that the interlude around 1:55 would be a nice place to throw in a short, minor, screaming type solo. Kinda like if you imagine the first half of the song being the boss and then the second part being his final form so the interlude becomes like... the evil reincarnation cutscene in the boss battle. It might mess with the progression of the song though, so I'm not too sure if it would really work. But anyway, I really liked it, I could easily imagine an epic boss battle unfolding without any other stimuli. The whole thing was very professional, do you mind sharing what software you're using?
Actually, I listened through the song again and thought about your critique, man it would have really rocked , I don't think I have the instruments so I can alter the song though as it's quite old by now =(. I'm glad that you felt inspired though! I'm using Fruity Loops 8.0 for composing and also alot of VST instruments to aid me in delivering these close to realism-like sounds. The guitars in this song came from Quantum Leap Colossus (I'd SO like to get my hands on the Quantum Leap Ministry of Rock though), the choirs came either from Quantum leap Symphonic choirs or Magnus choirs, I can't remember.. Then I used a pretty low quality harpichord vst plugin with some effects on it. Glad you liked it!
