Yes. I'd be more than happy if every game on the iDevice looked like Chrono Cross/Super Mario World/A Link to the Past/Metal Slug/Super Street Fighter II Turbo.

    Unfortunately, that can't happen...

UNLESS YOU HAVE EMULATORS! Huzzah for me having all the games you mentioned on my iPod!

I would actually love to see an MMO on the scale of WoW with the graphical style of some of the game I mentioned above :p

I'd get more addicted to something like that than I would the real WoW.

Well I don't mean those specific games, but they look awesome and if graphics never went past that point on the iPhone I'd still buy the games and be happy.

Edit: whoops, double post. Thought someone would get in before me.

True in that he is wrong. But he is right on the other issue. Graphics shouldn't replace content, controls, and gameplay. Gameloft has done that a few times yet people still raved over it because of the graphics. Now if you look at some of the ratings for assassins creed (and other big hit shitty ass ports) you'll notice that people are beginning to realize what a bad game it truly is. But NOVA and MC:S I felt was a step in the right direction for gameloft, apart from the baltant ripoff of halo. It felt more like a 'full' game.

Nobody is claiming that having graphics over gameplay is good, and this story never had anything to do with that anyway. If we have room for graphical improvements, how could you possibly see those improvements being made as a bad thing?? It is senseless.

In my opinion, we already have tons of games on the App Store that look awful and the gameplay is not good enough to make up for how horrible they look. No, I'm not going to name specific games. I see that issue just as plainly evident as having good graphics not making up for bad gameplay. They go hand in hand.

Does that mean you can't have nice looking 2D games? No. There are tons of great looking 2D games, even old pixelated ones. But that fact doesn't preclude there being great looking and great playing 3D games, as well.

The only example I can think of right now where a game went from 2d to 3d and preserved the gameplay of the original perfectly while enhancing the game with awesome graphics would be Fallout 3.

So while it has the 'potential' to make a better game, 90% of the time it's a failure.

Developers need to simplify instead of trying to break the box all the time.

Nintendo started off making wooden board games in japan back in the 1800's, look at them today, simplistic games with accessable gameplay. People forget that we want to play GAMES. Games these days are over designed.

In your opinion. Lots of people hate Fallout 3 because it ruined the Fallout universe.
Again, in your opinion. There are hundreds of really awesome 3D games that I have.
The whole point of having an engine developer is so that developers DON'T have to break the box. If a developer can't make an awesome game with the Unreal Engine, who is to blame? Certainly not the people who provided the engine.

That's the thing. A bad game is a bad game, whether it's in 2D or 3D. Your apparent opinion is that all 2D games are awesome and 90% of 3D games are awful, which is simply untrue. If I'm wrong, please educate me, since that is the impression you are giving me.

STOP ARGUING ABOUT GRAPHICS! this isn't just about graphics it's about the versatility of this wonderful engine coming to the platform. For so long we have only had Unity for the iphone but now we will have unreal engine 3 in its mobile glory!

We are we arguing about the engine? There's a lot of potential for developers to create exciting, innovative games now and have decent graphics to boot. I understand people's personal opinions on whether game play > graphics or those that say graphics > game play. In the end, they both go hand in hand and both should equally provide a fun and entertaining experience.

I may have come off like I was arguing about the engine, I was more complaining about the fact that everyone is so focused on making everything in this 3d style. 3d movies, 3d games, 3d home television sets with 3d enabled content streaming. Honestly, the movie Avatar even existing was the last straw for me.

Bring Jim Henson back from the dead and others like him, where the **** has the craftsmanship gone?

It's only going to be accessible to 3rd gen with OpenGLES 2.0. And so far, only the 32GB and 64GB 3rd gen iPod Touches have that, not counting the 3GS.

You keep beating that drum, dogmeat. We get it: you don't care for a console experience on the iPlatform. Many people do. End of story.

don't you realize that "many people" are the absolute minority ?

The masses don't want a fully featured console game on their iPhone.

They want bejeweled blitz, flight control, etc..

Watch the market, and you will see.

Yeah, that's why Nova, CoD:Zombies, Need for Speed: Shift, and Avatar are all in the top 10 grossing apps list. Because the "masses" don't want those sorts of games.

There's tons of choice in this platform. That's a good thing.

I understand dogmeat's opinion on indie games being "the way to go" on the iPhone. But dogmeat don't speak for other people like that just express your opinion as YOURS.

Some companies are developing for the iPhone to make money, like almost all devs on other platforms (Gameloft, EA, Activision, etc.). And others are indie developers doing it for the fun of it and seeing if their hard work pays off. I think that is something unique and great about the appstore because it appeals to "indie" and "commercial" gaming in a sense.

Dogmeat, from my understanding you feel that the iPhone is not fit for "commercial" games like NOVA and would prefer something like Doodle Jump. I completely respect this opinion but you shouldn't impose it on others saying thats where the market is and neither should SQUAREZERO. I took a look at the top 25 and noticed its very mixed between indie and commercial games. by the way sqaurezero commercial games are on top grossing because they are much more EXPENSIVE.
