I don't use twitter because I think it's too restricted - I'd rather post on my blog, where I can actually say more than two sentences at a time. It's also very awkward to follow conversations. I hate to state the obvious, but most of the devs (especially larger companies) use it because of one reason: its popularity (which equates to advertising). Not that there's anything inherently wrong with that.
