The exact same thing happened to me for no apparent reason. I then tried the magical reboot and it fixed it.

The rice thing only works if you chuck it into a rice paddy.

Dio, I'm so sorry man. The same thing happened to me (by submerged in water, what do you mean? Where?)

You turned it on after like I did. That short circuits it since there's water inside. My iPod dried for two weeks after, and the screen started coming back from the blank white, but in negative, then flickering normally sometimes. It never got better.

The best thing you can do is take it to an Apple store, and they'll replace it at a discount. I got a new one at $150, 16 gig. Don't try to trick them, because in the headphone Jack there's a submersion trip indicator, that goes red when water gets inside.

If you don't have a recent backup, wait until it dries completely (a week or so), and try to connect it and make a new one.

    This is what you do...

    1) Turn off your device; by turning it on and off, you're actually creating a static charge that can damage your device

    2) Leave it alone in a dry place and stop touching it; the more you move it, the more damage you're doing by jostling circuits; leave it alone like it has the plague

    3) Turn on a fan or hair dryer; do not point a hair dryer directly at the device; instead place it nearby where the air can circulate around it

    4) Give it 24-48 hours to fully dry out...seriously

If you do this, you may be able to save your device. How do I know this? We have mishaps in the office with smartphones and Blackberries, and this is what we do. Works 100% of the time...as long as you stop turning it on and off.

Haha, I knew somebody that once plopped their Blackberry in a bowl of soup. They should have come to you to fix it.

What a shame, they dropped their Blackberry in a bowl of soup

Here's some advice - If you ever drop your Blackberry in a bowl of soup, leave it their and buy an iPhone instead :D

Dio, after smashing his head repeatedly against the keyboard to dullen the pain of his misery, left the room to get ready for a sleepless, fit-filled night. In the dark sky, clouds began to form, thunder rumbled, lighting struck on the horizon. As he brushed his teeth with his musical toothbrush playing the Jonas' Brothers "Hold On", he heard the a loud crack and the power in his house went off. He stepped out of his room, walked over his My Little Pony, and descended down to the basement to check the circuit breakers. His attemps were futile.

As he walked back to bathroom to spit, rinse, and tuck into his The Empire Strikes back sheets, he noticed his wall starting to flicker. He tilted his head to one side and wondered why his wall would be flickering. Maybe it was trying to tell him something. Then he realized it was actually light reflecting off it, and he giggled to himself for being such a moron.

He peeked around the doorway to his office, the apparent light source. Nothing seemed to be amiss until he noticed his iPod missing. Where could it be? Suddenly, a huge light filled the door frame. He slowly turned around, eyes wide with terror, mouth agape, knees trembling... but it was only the TV that had turned on when the electricity came back on. The iPod was in the couch where Dio forget he left it.

    The End

Haha, I couldn't have said any better myself. But, when they got it to the tech person they actually said it might have had a chance if it was left in the bowl. Not sure how that works but that's what the tech dudes said.

    I don't have one...
    In AMERICA.
I dropped my iPhone in a pool once. Dried it out for a day then I took it to the apple store and said "It just stopped working...heh...". They replaced it.
