PocketGamer made a post here, so I wanted to post it here, I know there are already threads concerning the removal of EDGE. But this is more "big picture"
    Goody!

There's also an article at SlideToPlay about the whole fiasco here.

UPDATE: It appears that the email was a spoof and not from the IDGA. An articale about it can be read here. Bad News :(

So does this mean that 'Edge' will be placed back on the market?

About frikkin' time. EDGE was such a great game, I couldn't believe it when it was first removed. Funny how ALL articles about him have the same picture.

Edge might be able to come back, it will take a while though, unfortunately, him off IDGA is only a first step, as, while it would weaken his base of power, he still has some (used Veeeeerrrrryyyyy lightly) legal grounds.

From the information I've gleaned from his trademark, which is for the term "The Edge", and his previous legal battles, he likely doesn't have any legal standing.

Trademarks are very specific. If Mobigames had called it "The Edge" instead of "Edge" he'd have a clear cut, if still repugnant, case for defending his 20 odd year old trademark.

Since they are not infringing on the trademark with the name of the company that's one thing he can't find them on. It can easily be argued in court that there is no trademark dilution made by Mobigames because:

    a) There is no threat of confusion between the game and the company.
    b) Though similar, the terms are not the same and refer to different entities - one being a company, another being a product - with a market presence 2 decades apart.

He also doesn't appear to win his cases. This looks like a bully technique to try and scare Mobigames into signing over free money to him in perpetuity. There are people who make a living off of litigation by throwing threats at people and companies in the hopes that a percentage of them will just settle.

I look forward to hearing that Mobigames has prevailed.

Edge is still one of the best games for the iphones imo. He should really just name it "Cube Madness" or something and get on with his life :)

Edge is a poetic and fitting name, considering how much work you have to do to stay teetering ON the edge, and how much work i had to do to keep from falling OVER the edge when i tried the Lite version once...

As I told ya all, people who want "Edge" - make a German account and I'll gift it in trade for a game at the same price.
    Edge is available in Germany.

  14. Langdell finally poked the sleeping badger. In this case, a honey badger, and now the badger -- EA -- is going after him for what he's been hammering others for. O sweet poetic justice! I hope EA stomps on him with a mighty foot. Langdell has been nothing but a conniving douchenozzle at every turn and he deserves every ounce of pain EA's legal hounds pile on him. I haven't been a fan of EA in years, but I have to say: YOU GO EA!
