    I love(ed) my DSLite, and I kinda liked playing my brother's PSP here and there, but unfortunately for both Nintendo AND Sony, Apple will soon be taking over the market.

    My iPod is played as much as my XBOX 360 is and thats saying alot. The fact I can just browse through a library and be like 'this game looks fun!' and download it for a dollar instead of ten is genius.

    In fact, I've carry my iPod around with me quite literally everywhere I go and so far this summer (a week) I've logged almost 75 hours of messing around with it and 0 on my XBOX 360.

    Now if only Apple made a console...

    The fact that it's not a console is the reason you're playing it so much, along with the cheap games. If it were a console... well, you might as well use Microsoft's arcade section.

    Not with the iPod Touch/iPhone they're not. They'll never replace the DS and the PSP. Not unless they come out with a dedicated gaming device.

    The iPod's best games don't compare to the PSP's and DS's best game though. You get what you pay for.

    Man how ugly is that when its opened up! It just looks plain horrible... :(

    Their game library does look good though. The question is how will they deliver them - via downloads? If so what will these games cost?

    Another thought I had is will the PSP Go have a 3G "always-on" connection for multiplayer and game downloads? Maybe thats what the name's about.

    Anyway, at least we'll know in a few days at E3...:D

    That's the iPhone biggest benefit in comparison to the PSP/DS: convergence - you will always carry your phone around with you and if that plays good quality games do you need a dedicated system?

    The games do not compare though. You need a dedicated system to get the type of titles you see on the DS and PSP.

    That's not to say the iPod/iPhone doesn't have good titles, IN FACT I prefer the quick pick up and play titles that the App Store offers, but its not for everyone.

    Yes you DO need a dedicated system if you want games on a more "epic" scale, which the App Store is lacking.

    What I think will happen is the iPod will create a NEW market away from the DS and PSP. I doubt it will take away the current market Nintendo has, but I'm pretty confident Apple will bring in new customers who previously wouldn't of even considered a DS or a PSP.

    umm...no. It will not have a 3g connection. That isn't even within the realm of possibility. And the games will be on the ps store, like some full psp games already are. They probably will have some sort of program to turn your umd games into digital files also for people buying the new model. And the games will prob cost same, but there will be some download only games that will cost less. And in response to Apple being a competitor to Nintendo and Sony...no. The idevice is great for gaming and has a unique interface, but it will not challenge the other two companies. It is a completely different market. People who buy an idevice are buying it first as their mp3 player, or phone. The games are a bonus. People don't buy a ds or a psp for the multimedia features; they buy it for the games. Except in some rare cases (zenonia, rolando, etc.) you cannot get the same full game experience that you can get twenty fold on the other handeld consoles. I like my ipod touch for games, but for one thing the battery life is crap with games so I don't expect to play a full car ride anywhere, and I'd much rather be engaged in a more in depth experience that the idevice just can't offer because of the price of games and risk in development.

    This is the new psp? It doesn't look comfortable to hold.

    And still no twin analog sticks?

    Think I'll wait and see if there's a PSPgo2 another 6 months down the road. :rolleyes:

    I think I'll wait until the PSP 2 comes out...or DS 2 or w.e. it's going to be called. Not just these updates Sony and Nintendo are pumping out.

    I have the original PSP and while I love the games the actual hardware sucks. The D pad in the PSP1000 is awful and the battery life is 2-4 hours max. If they provide a way to transfer UMD based games to digital format then I'm interested if the battery life is improved otherwise I think I'm just going to find a better replacement battery for my current PSP (it has trouble holding a charge longer than a week or so at a time. Its the original one).

    I hope this digital online push brings short quality (app store like) games to the DSi and PSP. I'd love to see small indie developers look around and think wow I have all of these platforms I could develop for (PC, iPhone, PSP, DS) but as it stands now the big 3's online services are still pretty closed even compared to apple it seems. At least steam is starting to pick up some smaller titles.

    Sony is a great company, but they insist on doing things 'their way' and not admitting their mistakes. Japanese companies, historically, have been very successful with seeing an idea, improving upon it, and releasing something far superior in most ways.

    Consider early Japanese automobiles with engine design very similar to those from Europe, but now the Japanese produce arguably the most reliable and technologically advanced vehicles on the planet.

    I wanted a PSP for ages, and was merely waiting on Gran Turismo for it. Gran Turismo in my pocket, wow that'd be awesome! It is now years later, and where is it?

    OK step back a second, where is Gran Turismo 5, the title that will cause me to shell out for a PS3?

    Sony has lost the plot, IMO. They focused on their Minidisc technology for far too long, getting into flash media far too late; their first portable music players used proprietary ATRAC instead of MP3, used Sony Memory Stick instead of Compact Flash, Smart Media, SD or any other standard. They've tried to woo consumers with Super Audio CD (SA-CD) and now Blu-Ray, and unlike a 1980's Sony, they seem to be having real difficulty thinking outside the box.

    The PS3 launched at far too high a price, with minimal new games, crappy Sixaxis controllers with no rumble pack, etc.
    Then Sony dropped the price, and improved the controllers, BUT they took out the chip that enabled all PS2 games to run. Suddenly everyone considering a PS3 purchase couldn't be assured of running their PS2 titles anymore.

    Who's running this ship?

    The PSP2GO looks good actually, I would assume the build quality will be solid (Sony does make very nice hardware) and it should be a success. But this is Sony... they could, and should, have beaten Apple to the game years ago. Imagine a PSP, and a Sony Ericsson PSP Phone.

    The PSP2GO needs dual analog sticks, fact. It needs to be 100% compelling, and a 'no brainer' purchase, something that is looked up to as the cream of the crop for portable gaming.

    Sony is floundering:
    Walkman -> Minidisc -> MP3 -> iPod
    Master System/NES -> Genesis/SNES -> PSX -> PS2 -> Wii/360
    P800 -> P900 -> iPhone/Blackberry/Pre

    The original playstation and then the PS2 came out of no where, slaughtered Sega, and knocked Nintendo out cold till the Wii rolled around decade later. The PS3 should have been so much more, where are the games?

    What is Sony doing?

    Sony is taking way too long to implement ideas, they're moving far slower than they can afford to. They've had big leads, and WASTED them!

    Apple in the late 80's to late 90's did absolutely didly-squat nothing, and sat on their laurels whilst Microsoft waltzed in and took the whole market away, and I fear Sony is heading the same way.

    I LOVE my PS2... I don't own a Wii or Xbox 360... I'm waiting for the right one... come on Sony. Admit you've made mistakes, be aggressive, be ruthless and make products no one else can!

    I'm kinda pissed though because I already preordered it and now I'm probably going to end up selling my psp and if all things are downloadable ways the point. I'll probably only buy if you can transfer your old psp games to digital somehow-I was thinking maybe putting them in your old psp and then syncing them to pan account so you could dwnload it for free

    Honestly, if Sony can figure out a way to:

    1. Somehow magically include a LCD that has a response time similar to a any other LCD screen made in the last five years.
    2. Have some way to transition my existing UMD game purchases to the flash-based PSP without too much drama.

    I will totally buy this, and maybe even enjoy playing it. I really can't even say much for the massive library of PSP games I own, as most of them were just impulse buys every couple months or as long as it would take me to realize how poorly the included LCD in my PSP ghosts with any kind of movement.

    I'm not re-buying any of my games, that's just ridiculous. And if Sony doesn't fix the screen of the PSP (third time's the charm?) I just won't even know what to say anymore.
