As the king said, if you want to test early you need to have a small team of people who you know have interest in seeing the game out and want to stick till the end. In my past days (I mean when the term indie did not even exist in games programming) I tried it and was a disaster! Today, in a very different job (nothing to do with games), I have a test team.
I only opened the new build ... I think now you need to add an explanation of the score system in the tutorial or at least add an arrow saying that the meaning of the symbols.
Hello beta team Save Toshi 4.0 is up! New Features 1) A new golf inspired scoring system 2) Some problematic levels fixed 3) Leader-board added 4) Levels are now locked by default 5) Skip Level hint Added (you can "buy" a skip) 6) Modified Hint Costs (based on Kaboom's suggestion) 7) Hint tutorial added 8) Added a white flash on restart level 9) Changed "TIN" label to "METAL" 10) Changed 4 Stars to 3+, and added a slightly different reward for achieving this score Backgrounds are still at work and will be added to the next upcoming build. Guidelines: The guidelines for checking this versions are: 1.General impression with this version - let us know what do you like about it compared to the previous one 2. What are your 2 Major objections with the game after playing this build? 3. New beta testers - tell us what you think about the levels (which one you love/hate) 4. Check the new features - we need you to tell us what you think of them (especially the new scoring system) 5. bugs killer - you know, bugs! Enjoy
It now works (alomost) perfectly on my iPad! That's awesome! It really fits the larger screen. Only one thing bugs me and that's the screen rotation. It will not rotate 180 degress to support both landscape modes. That's fairly annoying when using the Apple case.
I think I also complained about it. But on my ipad I had zero problems and it looked native iPad from day one.
Hi Noam, is it too late to express interest in beta testing this game ? sent an email with my inquiry and details enclosed too!
Ok after only playing through 12 of the first levels (maybe it was 13): 1.General impression with this version - let us know what do you like about it compared to the previous one Not having played any other build I can't comment on them. I can say though that this looks very polished and well done. It reminds me a bit of the game Boom Blox for the Wii. I really like the different physics mechanics and its not - land the ______ on the ground - type of physics puzzler. (I should add that because I also love those kinds of physics puzzlers I am not saying anything about it. I just think there are some classics in that area and this does not try to copy it but to expand on a different concept) This you need to think and plan out. Lots going on and lots to think about and do. 2. What are your 2 Major objections with the game after playing this build? well a: I wasn't clear that you could rotate the screen at first. I might have missed the help screen that explained this in the excitement to try the build out so that might just be me. But when I figured that out I understood so much better how to play. b: This might be my gripe but I hate puzzle games that the character dies. So naturally I don't like the screen that says Toshi is Dead. Maybe something better would be - You didn't save Toshi - or something along those lines. Again that might be me, because I don't like playing Lemmings for that reason - you need to sacrifice some to get the solution. It might be too late to change that screen anyway! 3. New beta testers - tell us what you think about the levels (which one you love/hate) When I play some more I can answer this better. For now I can say that I am enjoying them all. I like the different mechanics involved the different ways to achieve the goal. 4. Check the new features - we need you to tell us what you think of them (especially the new scoring system) Following this thread I am aware of the controversy where this is involved. But seeing it this way I can't imagine a different way to do it! I really like it! 5. bugs killer - you know, bugs! None so far!
This time I will be short, I mean the game is polished and I played many levels already three times! 1. General impression with this version - let us know what do you like about it compared to the previous one Polished. The previous one was already there, this one works very well ad well. And the metal boxes do not hurt my eyes! 2. What are your 2 Major objections with the game after playing this build? What you call metal looks more like a jewel stone .... As said in earlier posts I would indicate the meaning of the cup in the tutorial but this is a minor concern. Support for both landscape mode on iPad is appreciated, but also minor. So .... No major concerns 3.New beta testers - tell us what you think about the levels (which one you love/hate) Enough said .... 4.Check the new features - we need you to tell us what you think of them (especially the new scoring system) All works and I like the scoring system. 5. bugs killer - you know, bugs! I found none BUT I really want those new backgrounds !!!
Hi guys, I'm new on board! 1) a few details about yourself - we want to get to know you better (can be done on the thread itself too so you can get to know the other testers and they get to know you) I'm Elijah, gamer on a number of platforms PC, console (i own an xbox 1st gen, a PS3, a Wii, a psp and almost all of the generations of nintendo gameboys except gameboy light.) and finally iOS, been an iOS gamer since the iPhone 2G days, was one of the first few in the world to get the iPhone 2G. Well, what else, started by life as a gamer starting from the SEGA console system, was hooked to the TV so much, that my parents kept pulling out the plugs on me whenever I'm playing too much.. Well, currently a university student, and that's about it I guess.. Glad to be on board! Would love to save toshi together with you guys!
Sorry for the late reply, I was on a weekend trip and didn't get a chance to sit and write back. Great thread with the before and after graphics games, thanks! I agree that we will need devoted testers for that, but I already see a few of them here (you among them). We just started something new in Nitako - The NItako Game Jam Here is a video from the first one (from last thursday), where in 3 hours we developed a very rough prototype of a rhythm jumping game: http://vimeo.com/16568834 password: canabeat What I would like to try and test out is when we have like about 3-5 of these original prototypes, I would love to throw them at you guys and see which one you like best and continue from there.
OK, great feedback Simon. We will take care of the rotation problem. Anything else? some level to level info would be awesome... Cool, I'm glad you like it! btw, we only found out about boom blox AFTER we started working on Toshi (we dont have a wii), and we never played it in fear of being too influenced - I think it was a good decision Any suggestions on how to make this clearer? (its already in the tutorial). Thanks, Ill see what I can do with this[/I] Great, let me know more after you finish some more levels. Me too Glad to have you on board Elijah! next build is coming soon. BTW, everybody - I updated the spreadsheets with all your feedback so far, check it out when you have some time, thanks!
