All apps made for the 3G and 3GS would work perfectly fine on the iPhone 4G. I don't why anyone would think they wouldn't. Most devs would probably make their apps for the 3G since it has the biggest userbase. But at times, someone like Epic Games is going to come along and make a graphics intensive game using the Unreal 3.0 engine that's going to work exclusively on the iPhone 4G. Processors have power saving in them. They only use up power when you're doing intensive tasks. Otherwise, most of the processor is idle and not using up any power. This is why the iPhone has 16 hr + standby time. Why would the video camera drain the battery at all except specifically when you're recording video. I don't think anyone is expecting or hoping to take more than 2-4 hours of video continously using the iPhone. Most people take short 3-5 minute videos. That's not going to drain out the battery.
Just about every single upgrade the 3gs made (double the ram, double the 3g speed to 7.2, almost double the processor, a much better camera, a 480p video etc etc) was all considered just a geeks wishlist too, and yet it alll came true. Hell rumors of an apple phone was widely though a geeks wishlist too. And that came true. So why wouldn't these rumors (the new omnivision 5mp 1080p videocamera, the 9th gen vx 2ghz processor, double the ram, double the hdd space, the same wifi N chip that's in the iPods that came out last month etc). All of those upgrades make perfect sense are simply the next iteration of the same components found in the 3gs.
I'd happily give up my fairly new iPod touch 3 for those specs! What about removable storage? And a frameless screen would be cool, so if you have 3 mates with an iPhone, it makes the picture spread to all 4 screens!
So would I. Which is the point, to release a device that people would actually want to upgrade to. That's how apple makes money.
People have great imagination! Apple are very secretive and I'm sure whatever they have planned, the 2010 iPhone will please all...
Probably the people who upgraded to 3GS and experienced poor performance in games that work perfectly on 2G.
Apple knows the smartphone market is having hard competition these days. Palm Pre, HTC HD2, Droid, Android Smartpones. Well, in my opinion these are "in global" not really competitors for the Iphone (3gs) but everything counts, Camera with high Megapixel and Flash, fluid (720p?) Video Recording, Bluetooth (Sharing Music, Files etc.) and high Battery-Life has always been a demand for many customers. Smartphone-Enthusiasts want an OLED-Display. If Apple wants to achieve more Market Share they will definetaley go the way to : Improve the Camera (more megapixel, maybe Flashlight) Open Bluetooth to share all kind of files (software related i guess) Improve Batterie Life Implement an OLED-Display. Maybe they'll add a new processor.... and ofcourse a huge OS 4.0 Update with many new features. I also don't think it will be something "surprising amazing new" for the 4g, but let's see.... I'm pretty satisfied with my 3gs so there is no real need for a 4g at the moment, my most demand is on the software-side like Phone Profiles and stuff like this.
I'd really like to see a thicker iPhone that incorporates a far bigger battery, currently using a mophie juice pack, if this was integrated it could probably last for 3-4 days and not really be any thicker than a Nokia 5800. A better cellular radio would be nice as well only two faults I have with the phone really
Wishlist iChat seems a must. More Ram, More Speed Dual sim slot! I liked someones idea about hot corners, off screen touch sensitivity. Wireless sync
well the size of games is going high and maybe we can see soon them on the mini cd the same psp games but that's a great idea for CD-ROM inside iDevices
I got a reply from [email protected] saying they will constantly work to improve the iphone's specifications to the very best they could possibly be!!! I don't know how much of these features will be in the iphone 4G but regardless, damn, my respect for Apple just show through the roof.
Idk if someone has said this already, but the technical name would be iPhone Version 4 unless it actually does have 4G capability. Yes, the iPhone 3G is the 3rd Version of the iPhone, but the '3' in its name refers to its ability to run & use a 3G Network Data Plan.
