As I've stated earlier I think there's little point in fighting pirates with technology/annoying banners etc. as you most of the time just make life harder for paying customers. I must admit I'm more than a little provoked by your rant to OHGSketch

While I agree that the financial losses due to pirates can't simply be calculated by multiplying the number of pirated copies with the retail price of software this doesn't mean the software industry doesn't lose out.

Here's the thing: People able to buy an iPhone obviously have some money. If they want to go to the Movie Theatre (as an example) they will have to pay. When the same people can get games for free they will probably spend a good portion less on games than they should.

I think technological mumbo-jumbo or lawyering up will probably cause more damage than good. I strongly believe however that whenever this debate rise up it's important that us devs inform people like you that we don't think pirating is OK. At least I don't, not by a long shot.

Yes pirating is here to stay, as is most other forms of crime...

    I think a reality-check is in order.

I pretty much agree that trying to make a pirate pay for their illegal wrong-doings is probably not going to fly.

That's like trying to make a forum troll pay for being a troll...you really can't win.

The most you can hope for is that they tell their friends about the app, if they like it, and hopefully one of those parties involved actually pay for it. Even if they don't, the word of mouth is powerful and good for your App (I think).

Basically, as someone already stated, if you thank your customers who pay and notify those that don't what they're actually doing it might make pirates at least feel a little guilty. Maybe something along the lines of...

"Thank you for supporting an indie developer by paying for this product...and if you didn't pay for it I hope you enjoy it enough to at least tell your friends about it."

    Just my 2cents.

Still really dig this logo...would love to see an App version -> [IMG]
