My only nitpick about STP's list is that Galaxy on Fire 2 and Modern Combat 2 (1 of the 2 Gameloft games I was able to tolerate this year) should have been ranked higher, and FIFA 11 should have placed somewhere. But, aside from that, I think it's a very comprehensive selection. Between the 3 lists, I agree most with Touchgen's. Regarding GOTY, I enjoyed GTA: Chinatown Wars more than Infinity Blade and Space Miner, but I think it's pretty awesome that Touch Arcade would give the GOTY title to one of the most underrated games in the App Store.
i agree with you about toucharcade, but i didn't like Chinatown wars, gangstar Miami vindication was way better in my opinion. But infinity blade had best graphics of they year & was addicting.
Wow. I'm glad Thumpies, Super Quick Hook and Super Mega Worm were remembered... but did I see Game Dev Story on there? If it isn't on there, I will kill very many. Watch out, Los Angeles.
Double Post: What?! Grand Theft Auto is just about the most complete, deep crime game available for any portable device... the story is great, the physics are realistic (sorta) and the world is really city-sized. And with great reviews from everywhere... why do you think this?
Having GTA CTW on both PSP and ipod I can say the ipod version is actually pretty horrible to play I only bought it out of pure curiosity as it was so hyped up. Mind you I can say the same about Fifa 2011 and Harry Potter Lego both are hyped up on the ipod yet quite bad compared to the psp versions they were ported from. Really doesn't deserve the top place in fact the whole list looks like they just picked 50 random games and put them in random order in my opinion how can they not include games like sentinel 3, Rage HD, Star Battalion for just a few examples. To me the game of the year is easily galaxy on fire 2 no question it's almost freelancer in your pocket.
Funny how the AMAZING goty runner up, Carcarassonne, is in the high thirties. Seriously, there are SO many better games out this year than that. STP got this list most correct of all IMO.
Prices don't really matter that much to me and you can pick up a used copy for about £10 (or less) quite a lot of ipod games are approaching that now and they seem to be rising recently. It's just a shame all the ports seem to be rush jobs I do think the newer ipods are more powerful than a psp but my point still stands GTA CW is pretty poor on IOS no matter what way you cut it.
I happen to think iOS GTA:CW is great -- that's how I "cut it." I hated driving the car with the tiny and stiff PSP nub, and I though that using face buttons to tackle tasks designed for a touch screen was lame. The iOS version was a great mix of higher end graphics and touch-based controls The only thing I missed was the street chatter, and that didn't bother me much. I wouldn't call it GotY, but I think it's a fine choice. I have few quarrels with the STP list in general. The only glaring omissions in my view are Crimson Gem Saga and War of Eustrath, which, while not flawless, are two of the most compelling RPG experiences in then App Store.
The amount of effort placed upon the development of virtually any game can be directly attibuted to the original retail price of said game. Sure, you can find a cheap used copy of GTA:CTW for the PSP, but Rock Star makes absolutely no profit off of that sale. However, the fact of the matter is that somebody at some point purchased that game at full retail, 39.99, which is 4 times the price of the iOS version.
I can walk into a store, right now, and get GTA for PSP for £5. I can go onto iTunes and buy the same game for £5.99. Thus, you cannot say "The iOS version is not as good but it costs less" as right now, it doesn't.
