What game is better? Taxi Jam: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=G-iYAll6fiY&feature=player_embedded or Car Mania: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UPFvbMoBrCk&feature=player_embedded
I have yet to try Taxi Jam but think one variable that might make it more interesting or maddeningly frustrating is the whole dynamic nature of the fares. In Car Mania you'll know the instant a car comes onto the map where you need to direct it to but in Taxi Jam you'll never know where a fare will appear and (just an assumption here) will probably have no idea where they want to go to until you pick them up. So this will mean having to be able to constantly intercept and make last second course changes with all of your other taxis as you try to plot a given taxi's newest course.
Correctomondo Hey Guys, Taxi Jam does indeed dynamically create fares with locations and the game advances as you suggested above- it can make the game very interesting sometimes, but sometimes you can also pick up directly from where you dropped off, which helps you save time. We spent a long time play testing this game and we think we have got it just right, we hope you think so too. Cheers, Ringo nerv media
I just started playing but it looks like all fares all have one of multiple static color coded destinations. So while you may not know where a fare wants to be taken until you pick them up, it will be one of the map's few destination points (like in the New York Map there appear to only be two destinations fares are taken to). The game ends once you've annoyed too many fares. I'm not even sure how crashed taxis count (maybe it's only bad if there is a far inside?). Also a cute element not seen in other traffic control games is that YOU are the one that controls how many taxis are out running around. So if you know you could never handle more than three at a time, don't bring more out. I'm assuming that you can even return taxis into the garage if you have too many out at some point. I'm absolutely loving the radio chatter in the game!
Destinations Hey everyone, Here is a run down of the rules of Taxi Jam that I posted earlier in its pre-release thread, hope it helps: Players have five lives, points are awarded for succesfully dropping off a passenger at a specified destination. Taxis can be dragged anywhere on the roads and any taxi can pick up any waiting passenger. Any number of taxis can be used at any time by dragging them from the rank, if too many taxis are on the screen they can be returned to the rank. Passengers appear randomly in different areas of the cities. The cab has a certain amount of time to collect the passenger. Once the passenger is collected the taxi has a certain amount of time to deliver the passenger to a specified location. Once a passenger is collected, the location is specified by the taxi glowing a colour which corresponds to the shaded areas, the passenger must be dropped off at the shaded area by dragging the taxi to it. Taxis can be stopped and started or re-routed at any time during gameplay by re-dragging a path for them (tapping them will stop them). If a passenger has to wait too long to be collected they will start glowing red and eventually pop - losing the player a life. If a passenger has to wait too long to be delivered once they are inside the taxi they will start glowing red and eventually pop - losing the player a life. If a taxi with a passenger crashes into other traffic - including other taxis tour de france, police cars, fire engines and buses, the player loses a life. Police cars will take random routes across towns, tour de france, fire engines and buses, can only travel in straight lines. Deliver as many passengers as you can before all your lives are lost. Three different city layouts provide different level difficulties, passengers are deposited around the city with increasing regularity as each level progresses in time. The greater your score on a level - the more drop off areas become available to the taxis Cheers, Ringo nerv media
From what I hear Sea Captain has more depth, but Harbor Master is a more casual game and does not frustrate you. How do these two compare?
I think this person was hoping people who actually played both of these games and could, therefore, compare them would respond. I'm interested in people's opinions on this too. Anyone played both games?
Have you played the other? This post essentially adds nothing to the discussion. I think Taxi Jam looks a little better w/ the variation in the fare locations... I'll probably get one of these tonight or the next day - based on the reasoned recommendations of this thread.
New review Hey guys, To help you discern the differences between Taxi Jam and other vehicle management/ line drawing games; we have just had a new taxi jam review at touchreviews.net. We are really pleased that it is getting some good reviews, if anyone would like to review it or compare it to other line drawing games currently available, we would really appreciate it and would love to hear you comments. Many thanks, Ringo nerv media
