A little disappointed to see Beat Sneak Bandit lower than LoE 2 (I only bought these two games). Beat Sneak Bandit simply put, has amazed me with it's gameplay style and execution. It's so unique it its own way and does more than LoE2. Don't get me wrong, LoE2 is a great game, and I'm fully enjoying it. It's just that Beat Sneak Bandit is just such a refined piece of art in so many ways. LoE2 might be living off of it's hype.
There's a bit more to a game than what's included "in the box", so to speak. For me, League of Evil 2 is by FAR the best game released this week, despite all the crashing and save game losses (which haven't affected me). The fun I get from this game is competing with people on the leaderboard, on this very forum. There is even a thread for individual track records now, and that especially has me hooked. I didn't even think before voting this week. Of course, I'm not saying that will apply to everyone, but that's the thing - your mileage may vary.
Can someone explain why PvS is so good? The first 10 levels of it is in the lite and tbh it didnt feel that awesome.
Pizza vs. Skeletons has much much more variety than what is sewn in the first ten levels. The fish stages and wrecking ball stages are a blast and new elements are added to previous types of gameplay.
I agree. LoE2 merely feels like a decent iOS game. Beat Sneak Bandit could easily be a PSP/3DS/XBLA/PSN title.
Everyone to their own. Leaderboards don't define a game though; they do add to replay value, but it doesn't make the gameplay any stronger or any worse. Beat Sneak Bandit, for me, is not only a great game, but an extremely creative piece of art that's captured me and led me to appreciate it.
LoE2 (to me) feels like nothing more than a reskin of the same game. After all this time, and hype, I was expecting more than just LoE with (IMHO) updated but inferior graphics. Great game and great fun but brings nothing new to what they already have on the app store. There were several other unique and deserving games released this week that are getting more attention from me. And I am not trashing the game or those of you who voted for it since I still agree it is a very fun game. That's why we have these forums to discuss and disagree
Yeah, i have to agree that LoE 2 is a re-skin of the first game, but that's not necessarily a bad thing. It wasn't going to get my vote no matter what though. My vote was pretty much locked in after I got to the fire block level of BlockHopper. I really wish BlockHopper was getting more love. The level design is superb, and the chiptunes and retro graphics are amazing. I'm going to keep saying it, it rus circles around all the platformers released this week. It's also pushing the bar for puzzle platformers IMO. Something that hasn't been seen since the Rolandos and iBlast Mokis. Oh yeah, there's ton of variety for all you "variety whores". There's also a pretty nice level editor. Pizza vs. Skeletons is great and all, but just like the TA review said, the game starts to get somewhat stale. They always add just enough to prevent that, but there's nothing that truly defines a level or makes it challenging. It's fun - quite fun - but nothing special once you get past the awe of the graphics. Maybe if it would have induced the same visceral experience that Lumi did, I wouldn't be so hard on it. The reason I haven't had fun with Beat Sneak Bandit is because I focus more on the beat than the actual game. This is probably just me, but it affects my vote. I'll stick to the more traditional music games. Little Acorns actually got boring after I hit Year 2. I just wasn't feeling it at all. What i hate most is that games like LoE, Little Acorns, etc. are massively popularized, but games like Jazz: Trump's Journey and Terra Noctis are either lost or almost lost. I understand what the average AppStore customer likes, but it's still annoying. This is what I wast thinking. Plus, most games that use Game Center have leaderboards. The difference that comes into play is the amount of people that will buy LoE 2 vs something like Dave vs. Cave or On the Hop.
At first I thought this would be a really hard week to vote for me (which rarely happens, I rarely even buy more than one game), but after playing for a few days it is clear to me how much Beat Sneak Bandit stands above the rest. Little Acorns is a fine platformer (though the time limit starts to annoy me in year 3), and Pizza VS Skeletons is a lot of fun as well, especially a great game to play in short bursts while waiting for something, but for me Beat Sneak Bandit was really something special. It took a while to click for me though, and I find the game really only fun if you go for four clocks (I am not normally a completionist and initially thought going for four clocks would be way too hard/frustrating). One of those rare games that I am actually sad to have almost finished.
Finally got into PvS and it turned into my GOTW So if League of Evil 2 is close to PvS or in tied with it, PvS still has my vote even though I did vote for Blockhopper at first.
Funny, I actually started to get even more into Little Acorns by Year 2. The challenge started to step up and isn't always that easy for me to even get through the level let alone set the time score. I actually think the game isn't getting enough attention. It's kind of like a cross between LoE and Super Crate Box without the weapons and more puzzle elements. Obviously, not as tough-as-nails as those games. However, it's got a lot of charm of its own and I've been having a blast with it. But everyone has their own opinion. I do understand where you're coming from though. Even though I had my issues with the dev of Terra Noctis, once I worked past the issue I was having, it turned out to be one of the best on the iOS. Then there's games like Miss Claire Garden that most people never heard of at all and is probably my favorite platformer in the Mario-esque vain. Part of the problem is there's just so many apps, it's difficult to get the word out. Haven't gotten Blockhopper yet, but it's on my list.
Tough decision between LOE2 and Little Acorns...both excellent platformers... edit: LOL dodger, we typed basically the same thing at the same time
Nudge...nudge...Little Acorns...Little Acorns... Well, it's not going to win anyway. But I'm finding to be a lot of fun and bringing something fresh to the table over LOE2.
