That is quite imprecise, am I your target? Can you quote what make you think that? At least that wasn't my purpose but please quote the sentence. Not a good thing when someone ends in having nobody to provide him some negative critics, sure publicly isn't the best way, but all the game critics, and this list was public.
3rd paragraph Your 3rd paragraph in your opening statement. You said TA pretend that thier experts blah ,blah ,etc. I didnt quote it because its overlong and wasnt even worth quoting. Trust me , I have disagreed on certain things with TA but I do it with respect. Not comming with a tirade like your share-holder of TA. I dont mind opinion because this is a free country. But now that you have come full blast , its time to see your list. There is no excuses , you opened your electronical mouth on TA. Now its time to put up , or shut up. Ethier you provide us with a list or this conversation is over. Probably there isn't enough room to list each category, and point-and-click/text adventures aren't as popular as the categories they chose to list?
Poor hodapp, getting paid money to write about iPhone games... The list caught me up on all the good games that were released during the time when my iPod was broken, so that was nice. Good job, guys
I'm actually happy with their list. Considering the ones you chose: Despicable Me - Really?! Trundle - Didn't that come out like 10 years ago? Plus it hasn't seen an update since April. R-Type - Is R-Type, is R-Type, is R-Type, what else is there to say about that game. Plus they botched the controls. Frogatto - Again the controls killed it for me. Somersault/Ice Cube Adventures - Tell me you're joking. Thank God you aren't writing TA front pages, please save it for your tumblr iOS blog . . . You know what's disappointing, your taste in games, I feel compelled to gift you something worthwhile to clear that clouded brain. I could tell a lot of thought went into the front page list, great job TA!
Lol you are so ridiculous. Do you really hope an answer to that? You should better calm down instead of typing this.
Mmm so: Despicable Me: Have you really play it? I doubt or you wouldn't have such a basic comment. Trundle: It was released in January and the lack of recent update is totally out of context I wonder how you could bring such argument. R-Type: I'd be curious you explain what's wrong in the touch controls. I quote with oldies in mind but added it because its gameplay is still fresh and amazing and a port doesn't make a game less good if it's well done like this one. Somesault: Sure it wins indie prize and is a crap. Frogatto: I do agree the controls aren't that easy at first but last updates improved them and many players didn't notice that there is a shortcut for jump climbing. Anyway the controls work and in comparison Fastar! and Babylonian Twins could be good games but they just can't bear the comparison and from very far. But well as the control stopped you, you couldn't realize that. Ice Cube Adventures: I do agree that is too difficult and I should not have mention it despite it has some great fun, that's why I highlighted this problem when I quoted it. Well you succeed collect such a series of weird arguments in so few words impressive. Lol so TA list is perfect for you? Mmm could you explain what you think really of Cubed Rally Racer? Great controls? Lol thanks for this pointless aggressive touch, don't you feel ridiculous? Well I suppose negative critics are forbidden here, for some, thanks Hodapp is more open.
I agree on some points about the 1st post in the topic, the categories chosen are not enough clear for me (but as categories are not really clear in my head...). Anyway, it's a lot of work for sure as all the work in TA front page and I'm happy the writers really like what they do, because without TA, it would be hard to know about the indie games. Ah the free world of internet where you spend hours testing and writing things for free only... Ah the world of the App Store where you spent hours developping games and have to sell them for nothing... Try to read hundred emails every day, look at the App Store to be sure you miss nothing, play games deeply so you'll write a deep review, write news about the last sales, go to the events to give preview coverage, make your own videos... the list is long and I'm sure you haven't enough hours in a day to do this with a full time job. Hard work must be payed and you have the right to enjoy your work...
Qordobo, you do know that people don't have to like the games you like? And you can like games that other people don't like?
Ehh, I thought the list was horrible too, but most of the front page is mediocre so I didn't expect much more. A more comprehensive list would have been better--considering this is a buyers guide, and more attention to lesser known original ios titles as opposed to games we've all heard of, or bought, or know from being in the top 200--it is a buyers guide for an iOS based website, why do we want to read MORE about infinity blade or cut the rope? Give us some interesting picks. Not the same stuff you'e been overhyping/advertising for all year.
I know that. The first point is that if you read well the OP (or if I explained it well enough!) my main point was about categories and the idea of making a guide instead of a more classical GOTY. Anyway to come back to your point. So be concrete, you didn't like R-Type, Don't Let Go, Trundle, Prince of Persia Warrior Within, Despicable Me, Somesault, Frogatto? Have you played them? There's a point where it's not just a matter of preferences, the design difference is just too big to allow argue too much. Also for sure for any game you'll find people that like it and people that don't like it. But well who and in what context? Sure there is a high level of subjectivity but at a certain point of knowledge of a genre and at a certain level of quality, it's not that much a matter of subjectivity. Sure you'll prefer this one or this one, but best one won't cause that much arguing for those that know the genre, only sorting them will cause arguing, not their general quality level. A good example of relative subjectivity is Solipskier, I can't succeed like this game yet, but in no way I would argue about it not worthing the selection. I would not have select it, but I feel fine it get selected. I don't want hurt Babylonian Twins but well it's a solid good game but it's a routine game, it just can't compare to most of the platformers I quoted (IceCube needs probably be removed but frankly it is a lot more imaginative and original, just the difficulty tuning isn't good, but that it's weakness and I agree enough to not making it worth the selection). And for Fastar! it is quite more interesting but that's a casual game and you can't put it in Platform category where it just can't bear the comparison, not to mention it's not a Platformer. That said if that thread hurt too much it's probably better to not answer more.
ZZZZZZZZZzzzzz If I bought a brand new iDevice this holiday season, hit the TA front page and saw the buyers guide, what I would see is a very strong list of games, that are well worth considering for immediate purchase and based on reviews and forum feedback would be very hard to fault.... And even though I already own a iPhone and iPad and have done so far sometime now, the guide is great for seeing the titles I have, the ones I have been considering and anything I might have missed... Category discrepancies, titles missing... Give me a break people!!! the details are on the rest of the website... If you want a detailed and comprehensive game guide and you would be willing to pay for it, I am sure the TA posse could work on a $2.99 digital magazine publication, otherwise STFU and enjoy the writings, detailed forums and all round coolness of TA.
Well it's clear that TA is a bless for those who know enjoy indie games, I'd say TA and TA forums which is a whole for me. But also, I'm probably wrong, I feel an evolution to something more conventional. In forums there are more and more more younger soul more avid of bigger productions, but even in TA front page I feel it's not the same, possibly much more bigger production released that eat much more time. And not have some categories in the guide like Adventure Puzzle/Hidden Object games, Point and Click Adventure games (yes 2 categories), a separate Puzzle categorie when it's a queen category in App Store), Tower Defense ha TD, Dual Stick shooter that got ton of special release this year, Brick Breaker, and more. Well i feel it like a hints that TA indie spirit is low down.
For me it's a good idea, well 2 buck for a special edition with photo of all the TA team and 1 buck without (or is it 3 without? ), for a detailed guide well organized, exploring in deep the past year, with some historical and anecdotal touch, with multiple way to browse, a good search tool, and an Universal app, that would be a great addition to App Store.
no point of thread The OP has plain stated he did not like the buyers guide. The OP has stated that the list was missing crucial games and catagories. 1) When challenge to post his own buyers guide! The OP refused saying that it would be ridiculous because he doesnt have the full knowlegde to make his list. The OP says Hodapp is wrong , but refuses to make his own list. This warrants this thread to be closed. 2) When people disagree with the games the OP likes! He says there is no way you cannot like the game. He states R-type as one of the games you have to like and cannot deny. Can someone please call the nearest mental hospital and tell them one of thier missing patients have been found. Look everyone disagrees , but yours is ridiculous. Had you made a short speech and posted your list very little people would have no problem with what you posted. But saying a list isnt good but refusing to post your own list for people to critic is silly. Hopefully IamNoSuperMan comes and closes this very silly thread.
