    Nooooooooo!

Fell down a pit to level 23, walked into a rubble ceiling trap and a fire drake finished me off before I even knew what happened. Gah!

Worst part of it was that I had made it past that trap before and got dumped out in a crash and found myself back quite a bit when I went back in. Does it not autosave at stairs or holes in the wall for such events? With this and my last character who is still alive but I can't access the equipment without crashing, I've had a few crashes recently.

Guys, it's nice that you like playing with all of your balls, but come on... ;)

BeefJerky, it should save when you enter a new level if the level you left has changed. But yea a crash can throw that for a loop. The update will be submitted tomorrow, and there's specific code in there to attempt to avoid and recover from situations that I have found that could cause a crash.

bluewomble88, what new stuff? Well aside from stability, I'm adding some more ---- and you'll get a new ---- or two. Don't be surprised if you encounter a ---- ;).

So I ventured into a vault with a long spiral of poison traps and happily tripped them all...
"SOMETHING GREAT MUST BE IN HERE!!" I got a wand of sleep at the center of the spiral - which I realize is pretty helpful but def not worth the 5 restoration, 6 healing potions and 2 regen spells I spent to recover. Thought I was a goner! Yeah... I'm freaking stupid. My poison hits were chomping ~25 damage off me. hahahaha

    um

what do lion eyes do? random permanent perks? should they be in the equipment page, then? I can't seem to "use" them.

    what does drift do?

oh and how do you heal poison? (now I ask!)

    thanks! (really enjoying this game!)

Heh heh heh. Too bad about the whole "surviving" thing though... we'll try harder next time. ;)

Orbs, just get them and that's all you need to do. They are active while carried.

    Drift spell, yes. It's feather-falling.

Temple blessing can heal poison, and there might be another way to counter its effects.

  5. I hope you'll add some ---- or ---- to balance the ----. The last thing I need is some ---- to turn up and try to ---- my ----. I'm the one who does the ----ing around here!

Tip: If you come across one of those spiral traps again, the shield spell is your bestest friend. You can't heal poison; if you're badly poisoned (as I was the first time as well), find the nearest temple, stand on it, and cast a regen spell for good measure. If you're lucky you'll heal at a quicker rate that won't burn the healing potions you'll still have to quaff quite as quickly. If you have a temple shield, even better; 3x the healing. :)

By the by, Paul, can regen spells be stacked? Twice the healing for twice the casting?

Yes, regen can be cast up to 3 times for increasing effect. Same with most of the other spells and potions. Strength x3 is always a favourite. :)

    Yup yup, cool eh? ;)

Hey guys, I've had a complaint about the "fear" effect being frustrating, especially when they're in the crypt levels, surrounded by wraiths. If I was to allow you to attack while afraid, it would sort of change the whole dynamic of it especially as human enemies can also be afraid. But, perhaps the fact that your skill is reduced while afraid would be enough... any thoughts on that? Agree/disagree with the frustration factor?

My vote would be to have it decrease battle skill or something.. if you get feared, you end up just moving off to a corner or something and just end up waiting a minute.. and if you do get into a fight with something, you battle as normal (attacked by a mob). so there in no real effect except for a time delay in the game play while you wait for it to wear off.

That also brings the question of if something attacks you on level 18 and you are afraid and battle skill is reduced by a significant amount, you cannot run away and risk being killed. I suppose by then tough the character should have plenty of potions and teleport scrolls. On that same hand though.. if you battle skill is reduced a lot, you are probably not going to want to fight something anyway and will still wait for it to wear off.

    hmmmm...

  12. It can get a bit frustrating yes, since you basically have to run away somewhere until the fear wears off. Something like a spell of bravery, or a special article that bolsters your constitution, would help mitigate that. Or, alternatively, the more "awesome" you become as you progress through the game, the less chance you have of becoming afraid from the wails of wraiths. That way early in the game you can be made afraid fairly easily, but as you go you'll become more emboldened and less afraid the more powerful you become. After all, at the start of the game they can be dangerous, but once you're powerful enough that wraiths are little more than pests, there's not much sense in being afraid of them.

Good points. Yes, currently battle skill IS reduced, so that wouldn't change. Also, you do get more awesome at higher levels, and this actually does reduce the fear time. Fear is really a magical effect here.

So perhaps I could remove the "too afraid" part, but keep it for the macabre shields so you can't attack those guys (and they can't attack you). But being afraid and attacking something, otherwise, would work OK... just with reduced skill (as it already does).

Maybe something fun would be have the character "panic" and automatically run the opposite direction (uncontrolled by the player) 5 or 6 squares. At which point the effect wears off, unless the character runs straight into another mob and gets attacked, where the reduced battle skill comes into play. The character of course would in his/her panic run over traps, fall down pits if they are there, etc.

Or at least, when afraid, be unable to do things such as sneak past traps etc. and perhaps fumble in other cases.

I must say I have no problem at all with the way fear works right now. As it is, there is an item that negates it and that effect is what makes that item a pretty cool find.

In a way I feel some parts are fine being frustrating as it makes it feel rewarding when you get an item to get around it, or move beyond a level with wraiths or simply when things are going smoothly.

If it's all made too smooth, the feeling of the rewards are minimised. And early wraith encounters are pretty cool right now and, especially, finding a corpse in a chest. I really like those elements.

I think this would be an excellent mechanic and would make for interesting game play. Right now when I'm feared, I just walk up to things and wait for them to attack me. There should be a reason that I don't want to fight.

Yep. I pretty much agree with this. Its about adventure. If the wraiths are buggin you, you wouldn't hang around in that cryped would ya? I wouldn't, I'd get the heck outta there, at least until I could deal with them some other way. It's not a must to clear every single level from corner to corner and if you want to do that then you should have to put up with the dangers that await you that you may not be able to take care of simply, or at all for that matter. That's the way I see it anyway.

  20. But ... crypts have good treasure. Lots of metal chests. Shiny.
