Ah, the fog lifts, as it were! The monsters are now quite impressed and a little intimidated by my wand. It may not be big, but I handle it like a master... Nothing "weird" as yet but I'm still exploring.
Level 4. Nothing "weird so far" still going on (on my scarce free time...) Someone mentioned before and I second it: using the barrel top as a shield is brilliant! Oh! and thank you for the info about how to use wand I had one with me the whole level and I could not see how to use it. Great game!!!
Of course you guys *all* went through the tutorial first, where it explains the wand... right? Right??
@ Madgarden, re: the invisible rat. It happened in the middle of the floor (i.e. nowhere near a tunnel). It does seem odd but maybe it is a bug that slipped through. What's all this I hear about a centipede lair. Is that a spoiler? C'mon, don't ruin it.....
Oi, that's SIR "Give-me-an-itemized-list-of-all-updated-features" to you! By the way, do the different floor types actually do anything or is it just cosmetic?
Uh-oh, just found another bug, not good at all. Just climbed a rope up to the next level and now my character has completely disappeared from the screen. My save is ruined, can't see him at all, even after I quit out and load back up. Not impressed Mr Garden, sorry mate...
Different floor types are usually thematic, and as such tend to determine what sort of generalized shape that particular floor's generated dungeon will take. It can also be an indicator of some themed baddie level, such as the green levels that indicate a crypt (lots of ossuaries around, wraiths, etc.) or other such things. Reading your rope climbing problem just led met to realize: I'm on the 6th floor and haven't yet found a single pit trap. Huh.
Wow, this update sure has changed the gameplay. I died yesterday as a level 3 hero on a level 10 map! I first got locked in a room (the vault door closed behind me and I couldn't open it again) with a hole in it to a few floors below. Then I fell through another hole on that lower floor to level 10, and when I tried climbing back up, the rope broke!! Suck!! lol Great changes, though it does make for some frustratingly very random dangerous situations - I mean basically there's very little chance for a lvl 3 character to survive on level 10. On the one hand, it makes it more "realistic", but on the other, it downplays your skill and choices to some extent and increases the significance of random events (hidden traps/pits/locked doors). Adding the shields does help to balance out that aspect though.
Hmm, thought I fixed that one. Just go down/up some stairs, you'll be OK. And chill out dude... you are a harsh mistress. Yes pits and all sorts of stuff have changed.
I am working on it as you pester me! Er, as we speak! EDIT: Oh hey... do you recall what kinds of map(s) you were on when this happened? Every little bit helps so I can fix it properly.
Great game and a promising looking update - I love the sound of the howling beasts! A potential bug: I started a new game, Hero level, and cleared much of the level 1 dungeon. There was a vault on the level and I found the lever to open the vault shortly thereafter. Upon pulling the lever, I got the message "A vault door opens" (something like that) and heard the door-opening sound effect - then was promptly back at the iPhone app selection screen. I got ejected from SoF! When I restarted SoF and selected my current character, the game had completely reset itself - the map was "fogged" again and I was placed at the initial exit/entry staircase with the cage above it blocking exit. Has any one else experienced this?
Well you have to think of it this way... you're exploring a dungeon full of unknown dangers. You don't know what to expect around the next corner. So, best be prepared for various "just in case" situations.
Can you try to do the same sequence again? I can't think of anything that should cause a crash for that logic, as it's really fairly simple, but it could be something unrelated. If the app does run out of memory because the device hasn't been rebooted in a while, the OS basically just shuts it down... not much we can do about that. SO try a fresh reboot too. It didn't get a chance to save your progress, which is why you were back at the start of the floor.
I can recreate this problem repeatedly now. It turns out the dungeon stays exactly the same - same layout, enemy and item placement - after SoF crashes. It just starts the level over again with everything back where it was and the map fogged. My "step" count is not 0 at this point, but is much lower than it should be given the exploring I did before the crash. When I find the alcove with the vault lever, there are 2 elvin guards. I kill them and they both leave a wooden shield. I pick up a shield, then activate the lever - I hear the vault open - then kicked out to the iPhone app selection screen. I have done this 3 times now. I will reboot my iPhone and try again!
