It's still $1.99 in Canada. You're probably experiencing the glitching other people have been having trying to get it as noted in previous posts.
You guys are soooo nice! Sorry how the whole server-backlog threw a monkey wrench into some people's plans about getting the game yesterday. Apple has fixed their backlog (at least with our app) and -- though the sale ended on Tuesday evening -- Sword of Fargoal is now able to be purchased again on the App Store! The iTunes link is here: http://bit.ly/8MDq3N Thanks for your patience, all! -- Jeff McCord
What's with iTunes and this "This item is being modified" message? I tried to buy Sword of Fargoal from midday in the UK yesterday when it was £1.19 and ALL day I got that message. I tried again this morning at about 8am when I woke up and still got that message. Just tried again and it's back up to £2.99, so that's a lost sale for them I'm afraid as I was on the edge - I know it's still less than the price of a magazine but impulse buys do add up. How come it takes almost 24 hours to modify the price of something, and essentially make it unavailable for sale during that time?
I've just read back a few pages and seen the explanation - Apple's fault, of course. They're still nowhere near a point where the App Store can hold up to the level of business it's doing, are they? Same with new apps and updates getting reviewed promptly, it currently takes over a month. I tried a Rogue-like game on the iPhone a while ago and it didn't hold my attention anywhere near as much as it used to waaay back in the day on my Mac Classic - simpler times back then I guess! I thought perhaps this shiny looking version might be more engaging but there's too many other 'impulse' style purchases tempting me to lay down a whole 3 quid. I know, I know, shameful excuse, it's so cheap as it is, but like I say if I added up all the money I'd spent on apps that looked fun but lasted less than a day for one reason or another, I can tell you it would be enough to feed a family for a week... Kind of embarrassing
If I added all the money I spend on 20 or so apps a month, it doesn't even come up to the price of one newly released ps3 game. Actually that makes me feel good. Well whatever. This game is staying forever on my device.
Would you like a prize? I've got a half-eaten packet of Jaffa Cakes if you like. I don't really like them. They're too dry on the bottom, the mouth-feel balance is all wrong. They're probably a fitting reward for stating that you have spent a different amount of money to other people, and have a different opinion on this game to other people. DISCLAIMER: I have no active opinion on the game, myself, as I haven't played it yet. I daresay it's very good. Please recognise the above as harmless teasing. Thank you.
I patiently await the next sale. While I don't doubt the game is worth the full asking price of the measly 5 dollars, but so aren't the hundreds and hundreds of other games out there After buying hunrdeds of apps later, i feel much better buying apps when they are on sale because all the money I save adds up. I only wanted to get this game because it looked interesting when I saw it on the front page of TA. Now if I grew up with this game and waited for this to come out then I would have proudly paid for the full price!
No need to find excuse not buying this game at its full price. We are all budget minded and want to save $. We missed the sales window thanks to Apple's screw-up. It is simply hard to swallow this fact. I have a huge back log of games to play and I imagine there will be ton on sales during Boxing week. I can definitely wait for another sales.
Completely understood. I am WAAAAAY over any kind of budget for App purchases myself!! ;^) But if you DO decide to splurge -- JM
Found someone to sell me this for $1.99. There's no excuse for the dev to knowingly bump a thread that contains an incorrect price in its title.
Absolutely right! How dare the makers of this game continue to speak to their fans until a mod has the time to change the thread title... Shame on you devs... SHAME
I wouldn't go as far as to say you needed to shame them, but it helps to make it as clear as possible that the game is $4.99 and not $1.99 so that the customers don't end up clicking the link and then wondering whether it's just a delayed price reduction (i.e. app store price not yet updated). For all I know, the the price could have just been set back to $1.99 as a last-minute decision on the part of the devs.
Sorry, we have contacted TA to ask them to change the heading ASAP. Also, the price was lowered on Monday as a "one day sale" and put back up to the regular price on Tuesday as planned -- not knowing at all about the TouchArcade review at all. Unplanned timing.
All very true, but the dev can't change the thread title and the OP wasn't done by them so they couldn't put a notice of the price going back up. There is no reason that a good thread on a great game needs to stagnant until a mod changes the title. (Which I did right before my last post) The devs are just responding to issues that they themselves didn't cause and being understanding that we don't all have big game budgets.
Dude. Chill. Us ordinary peons have no control over thread titles once a thread is started. If you want to bitch at someone, bitch at a mod. Only they can change thread titles. For the budget conscious, I understand completely working within limited financial means. All I can say is, you're missing out on something special. Go on. Treat yourself. You can do without lattes for the next couple of days. It's Christmas. You deserve it.
This is a forum and it is about stating opinions. Do you have a problem with that? You seem to like disclaimers and putting up excuses for after posting snide comments. Let me tell you something without any disclaimers -- I find it extremely hypocritical when someone owns an expensive device like an iphone and talk publically about budgets and feeding families for a week. Ignore listed.
I'm back! I was in Ohio for a few days. Sorry about the iTunes weirdness... can't really predict that sort of thing.
I've got to say - what a wonderful experience this game was. That is, until, I got the sword. I had a great time playing - finding my way through the levels, leveling up, falling into traps, etc. It was a great time. I got to the sword and my heart started pumping. I was all set - had plenty of shields, invisibility, potions, etc - to make it out alive. I was unstoppable - got to level 18 and bumped into a Mage, and this is where it turned sour. I understand that the mage steals the sword, and you have to get it back, but the guy just kept teleporting away. I tracked him down over 20 times over 3 levels, and each time he's gone before the fight. At this point, a third of the time was gone, and I just gave up. Honestly, I'm not sure how this worked in the original, but it's insane that the guy can just keep teleporting. Every other mage eventually would fight, but this one just couldn't be stopped. It completely ruined the fun of the game. Awesome job on the presentation though - top notch, I just don't see myself investing the time again to play through this if that's a possible outcome.
