I quit checking the thread a while back because it only dashes my hopes of release when I enter the bumped thread. I've been going on the assumption that the submission to apple will be met with front page news. I guess I'm late to the change of plans party. Having glowing memories of SoF from my childhood on the C64, I bought SoF day 1 and enjoyed it immensely. I bought SoF Legends on word that it would be the 'classic' long before I bought an iPad. Completing the trifecta, I bought SoF Legends day 1 on the mac. I'm not entirely pleased about having bought Legends, at least for the reasons that I did, seeing as at the time I had no intention of buying an iPad. To be fair though, I have since gotten my money's worth. I understand your reasons, still it is a bit of a bitter pill. I do have a question. 1) Are there plans to release SoF II on the mac? I wouldn't quite say I've been burned, only slightly singed. I'm sure I'll end up buying SoF II and most likely some iap, but I guarantee I will not buy it three times over. One caveat: If your plans stick this time and it remains universal, there is a decent chance I would buy it twice.
Yes, we plan to release SoF2 on Mac, as well as some other platforms, and also that the iOS version of 2 will be universal. As for being singed... I currently stand in an incinerator. Trade ya!
Typical, I'm away from the forums for a while and all hell breaks loose when I'm gone Count me with the happy to buy 2 and (gasp!) pay the dev for his work crowd, although I would like to know if there is any word on whether there will be tweaks for the iPad, specifically reduced swipe distances to move and easier to reach menu and action buttons. Oh yeah, and that cooler map that was once spoken about, too Fingers crossed!
Yes there are tweaks for iPad, I am doing most of my work and testing on iPad. So the swipe behaviour is a lot more improved and intuitive (IMO). The action buttons are still where they were before, but there can be more actions now, so kinda need the room. And here's what happens if you tap the mini-map in the lower left corner: Will probably also make it so that if you tap a target location in that map, the dude will (try to) go there.
You really need to move that office out of the basement furnace. I'm glad to hear SoF will be on multiple platforms. I've really enjoyed the mac version although in many ways the iPad is its superior. There are times that the keyboard is preferable (ie when precision matters). I carelessly walk into enemies too often on the iPad. Also, Sword of Fargoal looks glorious on the acd. Do you anticipate simultaneous releases? I wonder what those other platforms could be. Interesting.
Yeah, the Mac/desktop versions need to be further adapted for the desktop, I agree that the keyboard needs better support... though, you do know you can move the dude with the keyboard, right? Thusly: Arrow keys, WASD, and keypad will all control the character's movement. CTRL, RETURN, SPACE will execute the current "action" and SHIFT will speed up time for faster movement. iOS release will most likely come first, and then the rest.
What is the difference between Fargoal and Legends on iphone? And what are these plans for an update/sequel? If someone could catch me up it would save me having to go through the last 200 pages and I would really appreciate it, thanks.
You know, we do have a lovely function called "Search This Thread" right? It's understandae to no want to read several hundred pages but to not do a quick search? This question has been answered multiple times in both this thread and the Legends thread.
Regardless of search, they're common questions. Might be worth someone adding a little FAQ to the first post or something.
I'm sorry, I did not know that, however now that I do I don't seem to be much further ahead as the keywords from my questions seem to be too vague. Perhaps I'm still doing something wrong? In any case, how is me asking doing any harm? I'm not trying to be a douche here I legitimately want to know. What harm am I doing? Am I using the forum inappropriately by asking? Am I taking valuable space that could be used for trolling or an argument like the one this comment will invariably provoke. I am an older gamer and new to using forums so I am completely open to the fact that I've committed some forum faux pas and there is a valid reason other than offending your delicate sensitivities that I should not expect a fellow gamer to help me out and answer my question even if it was answered a hundred pages ago.
OK guys, just simmer down. Here's the current situation: We had planned to upgrade Fargoal for iPhone to 2.0, which is why we set Legends to Universal... so we'd have two representative Fargoal apps available in the store... the classic version, and the new 2.0 version. However, it's come to light that as nice as this is for the current owners to get a free upgrade for what is essentially a completely new app, it's not good business sense to do this in an update. It won't reach the people it needs to in order to make Fargoal a success and allow us to continue to work on Fargoal stuff. So we've all but abandoned this line of reasoning and are releasing Fargoal 2 as a new app. So this leaves poor little Fargoal for iPhone as a bit of an odd duck. However, we do have future plans for it, so stay tuned. If you want the definitive classic Fargoal experience, Legends is the one to grab. In summary: - Legends: universal classic Fargoal - Fargoal for iPhone: Just that, for iPhone only. Will get a differentiating update down the road. - Fargoal 2.0: *angelic chorus* It's all new
Thanks for the info, sorry if I got carried away there, apologies all around. I love the game and am looking forward to more Fargoal. Are there any new features we can look forward to in 2.0 that you're talking about yet?
Hurray Perfect descision. Congratulations. Now you just have to make it 99 Cent and milk the optional IAP cow to show 'Cut the rope' and 'Doodle Jump' where their place is (far behind Fargoal). And dont forget to make the old Fargoals free to kick the hype to the top. I wish you the best success possible. Any new estimate on release? Still before Christmas?
Just wanted to say Thanks for the vote of confidence. I haven't heard any new estimates on release though, so can't comment on that.
So, madgarden, is it a safe read of your twitter feed to assume that you are done with the game? @madgarden - "I wonder what the other guys are up to on Fargoal. Been off it for about a week." Is it safe to begin jumping up and down in anticipation?
That couldn't be right, could it? I mean, I'm hoping but... well, I guess each day must be taking us closer. Still stupidly hyped for Fargoal 2 right now.
Sorry guys. I simply meant that I was taking a break, and I wonder if the other guys have been doing any work at all. You will know when it's ready... it won't be a sardonic little tweet, heh.
