Hi hbernritter. One of the things I've learned (often the hard way) is how very important shields are in Fargoal. Casting a Shield spell, if you've got one, can save you in an emergency, but the shield you carry ( it's quality and the shape it's in) can make you r break you after the first few levels. I try to remember where dropped shields lay, hoping I can return and pick one up when the one I've been yielding breaks. And, when you've collected 2000 gold and go to a temple, your shield is "blessed" and returns to 100% strength. I try to keep that great gift in mind when I suspect I'm nearing that 2000 mark. When I have no shield I get very, very nervous!
Doffie, you're going to feel a even better about having a shield, armour, helmet, and weapon that can all be used for defense in Fargoal 2. Until my evil minions smash them to pieces, anyway.
Madgarden is there an eta on update? I bought game last year when I read fargoal 2 was "coming very soon get this now cheaper". It's may now. Though yes I don't mind waiting for an awesome game buy this isn't really "very soon". Eta?
There's that question again! This is the best answer we can give. When we originally said "very soon" (someone said that last May?? Good grief, I hope it wasn't me! ) it wasn't really anticipated that the game be reworked from ground up. Madgarden sorta works like a mad scientists though, kinda on the fly if you will, he's never not thinking about this game and the workings and guts of it. To make it work like he wants, he had to start stripping it down, and is now in the final stages of replacing the last bits and will be putting on the paint and polish to make it all more clean and shiny! We won't release half finished, half tested or broken junk. So, if that takes another week or another month or another 3 months, it just will. I can't give you any better answer than that. I can only hope that you like the game well enough to stick it out with us.
2000 gold!! I've yet to break 500 without not being able to hold anymore. Thanks for the tips though. I am on my 3rd run and although I have yet to break dungeon 7 I have learned shields are very important. That and learning to break off from a fight before its too late and I'm out of restorations. Right now I picked up a war shield which is working very well. Not sure which shields are better but in 3 floors I've only lost 10 percent of its ability.
hbernritter, you don't need to sacrifice 2000 gold all at once... just accumulated over time. And actually, it's not just a simple 2000 gold any more, it varies based on... stuff. Baronic, ETA before summer. I think. The weather's nice, go outside and play while you're waiting.
Can't talk about game. Need to play! One thing I would like to know; is it possible to repair/upgrade your shield after it takes some damage? I've got a spiked shield at the moment and am rather partial to it (as much as one can be). I think in an update it would be good to have a system like when you offer gold to the temple, only there would be points where you could repair your shield; or can you already do that?
Ooo-ewe, that's going to be swell, Paul. Will be great fun learning to manage all that gear so that I have a fighting chance against your minions. Confession: I got brutally beat down two games in a row last week, one Legend, one Hero. So I started a Squire game just to relax a little and lick my wounds before jumping back into the jaws of death. See what you're doing to me, you Canadian madman? Once again, I have to say that there are lots of fine games out there. Some I play pretty regularly and many I get bore or frustrate me so much that I hit the delete button. None of them are so involving and intense for me as Fargoal. Get back to work, man.
Question re Spells Madgarden, Wondering if you've ever given thought to providing the player with info re which spells are active at a given time, perhaps on the info page which tells you your EP, what dungeon level you're on, how many enchants, etc. With some spells and powers it's obvious which are activated (e.g., invisibility), but with others (e.g., detect, strength, agility) it isn't. The game tells me when a spell has worn off, but not when it's on. And if I quit playing for awhile, when I return to the game, I don't remember. Does this make any sense?
It sure does. There will be a bunch of info pages in the PAUSE screen that you can flip through... I'll try make sure we get such statuses displayed in there.
Ah, well, you don't have to be carrying 2000 gold all at once; the game keeps track of your total collected and one day you'll go to a temple and, voila, be blessed. The war shield is the strongest of the regular shields in the game, definitely, so enjoy it. But there are two very special shields, rarer, and if you find ne of them, you will fall in love with it. I won't tell you what these beauties are, don't want to spoil the surprise. Great that you're having so much fun and, clearly, learning some strategy along the way!
Mrs madgarden thank you for the reply. I'm perfectly fine with waiting for a good game. To be honest I played this game on my friends phone and wasn't very interested but I bought it anyway cuz fargoal 2 seems more promising. I humbly suggest not putting "coming very soon" in your AppStore description. I mean, if I didn't know about touch arcade, and didn't hear from you, I'd think it's abandonware or something since one year passed and "very soon" hasn't come. My two cents Looking forward to fargoal 2
I'm going to suggest to Jeff that he read this post of yours about app store descriptions. I think your complaint is valid and will help in the future for other projects, for sure! In any case, the "very soon" stands now. It will be very soon...but I suppose one Devs idea of very soon and a customers idea of very soon are not one in the same.
This is SOOO TRUE with the Sword of Fargoal team! Having seen them in action (discussing technical aspects of the current development in their inner office chat room), I know that they've been working on this project NON-STOP since the last release, but with the huge gaps in between releases it so easily could appear that it was yet another dev making empty promises. The polish and love they put into this game shows, and there is no need to rush mastery at work...it's just that there doesn't seem to be a clear way to communicate "We're still on it, hang on!" in the Appstore description. Perhaps, and not even that the team would be locked into anything as they could just change it again, they could say, "Coming 2nd Quarter 2011" just to give folk a rough idea and change this rough date if it's clearly not going to happen by then.
soooooo tempted by this couple of questions... how does the gameplay work? is it like once you find the sword it gives you a total score or does it just end also whats the advantage of buying it now instead of waiting for a sale (no im not being 'cheap' im just not sure if it my kinda thing) and also when is the new update coming?
