Thanks, Vegan. Jeez, I'm truly scared and need to think hard. I have already buried 2100 gold on this level and there's no temple to get blessed at. What's more, sin e I'm poisoned my HP aren't building up at all. I did, earlier try just running into the gold pile, but nothing happened -- it was just like running into a wall. Must I enter it from a particular direction? And is the golden sword in that pile obtainable?
Doffie, you might be full up on gold already? And I'm sorry, the golden sword is just sparkly graphics. The mound needed some cool treasurey stuff so it didn't just look like a big pile of bird seed. Otherwise I'd have had to add a Roadrunner, Wile E Coyote, and who knows where it would have stopped.
'Tis true. I thought I had buried the gold, but I hadn't. Then (slapping head) I remembered I'd been saving Strength potions. So I loaded 2 of those and killed 2 firedrakes on my way to a tunnel out. Went up to dungeon 19, got blessed and then found a warlord with a good war shield. I will try to find my way back to the gold pile tomorrow probably. Playing this game in Hero mode. While I was worrying about getting out of that jam, I picked up my high level Squire game and guess what? Got to the gold pile and picked up 1500, so now thanks to you and Vegan I know how it works. Thanks. What I still don't understand is poison. Thought you mentioned somewhere that there is a way to speed up it's wearing off. Is that true? What a day of danger and adventuring I've had. So much fun. Your fault.,
Yes. Don't chug it. Just sip it slowly. No, seriously, poison effects stack so the more you get hit in rapid succession (such as running stark nekkid through a spiral trap) the worse the effects are and the longer they take to wear off. Having a temple shield, standing on a temple, and casting regen helps, but the first time I charged through a spiral trap flapping in the breeze (and not so much as a Klondike bar at the end), I damn near died even with all three going for me; I still had to chug almost all of my healing potions and no few restoration potions just to stay alive. Well, that would explain all the holes in the floors. Although the physics are all wrong here, as you're not supposed to fall until your character assumes a slow, creeping look of dread before noticing (s)he's not standing on anything anymore, and even then not until you start peddling your feet and windmilling your arms. Although maybe that's what the drift spell actually does. It would explain a lot...
Hmm. Still, a golden sword, perhaps to be used as a strength amulet that works for "awhile" might be a goody to consider sometime in the future. It would look way pretty hanging around my neck. Just a thought.

I've been seriously poisoned more times than I can count. And, in this particular game, it's been worse than ever, especially since I've been hangin' in dungeons deeper than the famed 20th. And Zero (my Hero) is at a very high level with 288 HP to recover, so even with a few regen potions, it takes _forever_ to get well again. Last night I picked up a book and did some reading, waiting for that to happen. And I'm doing this deep dungeon-diving in hopes of getting a temple shield or any other super shield. The best I've found in all the games I've played is the war shield. Fortunately, in this game, I've had lots of those and managed to get blessed several times while carrying them. I dread poison more than anything...well, except death, of course.
I don't know if the Dragonscale Shield is a random drop, but I found it somewhere in the teen levels. Really kicks @ss as shields go.
Yeah, chrisb3, I've heard about the Dragonscale Shield, as well as the Temple Shield, and keep hoping I'll get to experience one or both of these. In my current game, war shields (and warlords who are doing open-carry) are almost as common as barrel lids. Living with random is exciting and HARD. I like it.
I actually found one in a secret room on level 2 and carried it with me all the way to level 18. It wasn't damaged but I found a temple shield and since I had never seen one before I decided to run around with it... then I fell down a hole, the rope broke, and I was unable to get my dragonscale shield back
Oh no, Vegan, that's a sad story. But, I guess it contains good advice about the tremendous value of dragonscale shields. And I would have done the same thing, switched to the temple shield out of curiosity. The dragonscale really wasn't damaged in all that time? Amazing. Makes me want to search amazon.com to see if there's one for sale.
Damn. I need to find a dragonscale shield. I found a temple shield on the second floor on my first Legendary game (I got down to around level 14 as level 16). Unfortunately, the shield go to my head, and I thought I was invincible against a swordsman that was clearly much higher level than I. I still have the save where I am dead, sitting next to my beloved shield. I've never seen one again. *cry*
Speaking of shields, once I found a reflection shield. I never understood what exactely it did, but was pretty cool and shiny. My preciussssss
I have found one of those before as well. And like you, I never was able to figure out what it did. Maybe it will save you from stun effects? When I had mine, I also had something like 2 black orbs so I was never able to tell for sure.
