this game is reasonably fun (pretty dang sweet). how many times can i regenerate though? ive already dont so twice.
ok, and how do u make your guy run fast? im a lil confused with the controls, not that they're bad. I like the game, i just wish there was an attack button or somthin... I understand thats not how "rouge" games work, its just I grew up with zelda and stuff. That being said, I'm enjoying the game, its the first of its type to catch my eye, it has some charm
Color me confused, Giver of Game, but is there any difference between a Barrel Lid or a Fine Leather Shield if both have the same number of hits (100)?
On squire difficulty you will "regenerate" infinitely. On any other difficulty you die once and that's it. To move more quickly place your finger on the screen and then slide it in the direction you want to go. Slide it about half an inch and hold it there, you should now be moving at a fairly good clip and will keep doing so until you remove your finger or slide it in a different direction.
Money converts into experience at temples, and every 2000 gold you sacrifice gains you a blessing which will instantly heal you to full and repair your shield if you're wearing one. The different types of shields degrade at different rates, barrel lid shields are the weakest and will break quite quickly at lower levels. Leather shields are second or third weakest. Some shields have additional effects, such as damaging enemies, and some shields are susceptible to environmental damage (wood shields burn in fire traps, metal shields corrode in acid traps).
See the page before this one. It's not how many hit points they have, it's how much damage they can take to drop in hit points. Some shields are tougher than others. Some, much tougher, but also more rare. Just keep an eye on their condition as you fight to see how they hold up, and make sure to keep it with you when you get blessed at a temple if you want it restored.
I wish to provide a bit more feedback that might be useful in improving the game... I entered a small crypt via a stone wall that closed behind me and it couldn't be opened again. I didn't have the wand of opening so all I could do was fall through the pit to level 27. I searched all over that floor and there were NO stairs leading upwards so I was basically stuck until I died. Seems a bit harsh really... may I suggest a lever in every small crypt that reopens the door but you sacrifice something in return every time you use it, even items. At least you'd have a choice. What do you think Paul?
Depressing indeed! Madgarden is going to need to make even more money to pay for all my therapy bills after this freebie I'm stressed right out about it! On a positive note though, he isn't worried about the one star brigade as he calls them and has assured me that it doesn't matter. He knows he's making a quality game, that people who know what a quality game looks like, will appreciate and rate appropriately. Sorry about the dragon destroying your shield. They can be so unforgiving!
All the rogue-likes I've played before were difficult, but I don't ever remember coming across something that killed me instantly when I was at full health on level 3.
It does sound so strange sticking up for a game that is made out of a dangerous moldy dungeon chock full of nasty beings that will stop at nothing to kill you. I firmly support their right to kill me in all sorts of unforeseen ways!
Hey, you fell for a trapped skull cell... sucka! Yes, you should maybe use a light spell to clear the fog sometimes perhaps, so you can see what's in there. Or, just stumble blindly in. Your choice. Other vaults have levers to get out, but this one, nay. And nor shall it get them. The true hero is prepared for such pitiful attempts to lure him to his death! I rest my case, and may you Rest In Peace.
Yes, yes, yes - that's all well and good but what say you to there being NO stairs on floor 27 to get out, only the rope I fell down which leads to a skull cell? It's a stalemate and renders the whole save useless. Also can you please tell me if there is anything in the game that repels bats and/or centipedes? I find it frustrating having 30 bats coming at me just because I walked under a crack in the ceiling. If there isn't, are there plans to introduce something? Thanks.
Mindfield, *That* is no scroll! wobblez, there were seriously no stairs in floor 27? I don't know how that could happen. No tunnels? Nothin'? Also, I will take a look at the bats etc. Yeah, I am going to add stuff to repel them, but also improvements can always be made in other ways. Maybe I can make the spawning logic kewler somehow.
Are you certain there are no secret doors on the new floor? And... if you have a teleport scroll you could climb the rope and teleport out. It's hardly a stalemate, you just don't have the tools to escape.
Madgarden really reminds me of a good D&D Dungeon Master --- always chuckling about how he's going to kill your character. Bring it on!
