PixelPower you seriously need to realise that Apple have done you a big favour by rejecting this game. Stop being so angry at them, or at anyone who says your graphics are a) rubbish, or b) clearly all stolen from other games via a Google image search. Every single person who has taken the time to respond is trying to help you, especially the ones who say things you don't want to hear. I suggest you re-read the whole thread, you seem to ignore lot of good advice. By the way, if you want to release games without any quality control do Android dev instead.
I don't often instant-buy a game from an unknown-to-me developer. I'll await some reviews first. But if the screenshots look great (I always check all the screenshots and appreciate some variety and some screenshots of actual gameplay) and the appstore text is good and there is a good trailer and it is a genre I like I might try it. It helps if the game is inexpensive and universal. It also helps if I get the impression that the game is not just a variation on a theme, but there is genuinely something new about it that sets it apart. I don't mean to sound harsh, but the screenshot attached to your question would make me skip the game.
The only person I said anything about was Mr.Ugly, and thats the last thing I will ever say cause he is on my ignore list for flat out lying about my graphics and game engine I use. Like I said previously Apple gave a more specific answer this time so I know what to change basically most of the UI and 2 backgrounds. I already said Iam looking for an artist whether revenue share or paid position.
Step 1. Screenshots If seems to be appealing then step 2. Step 2. Read the reviews If positive then step 3. Step 3. YouTube the gameplay. If I like what I see. <<Download>>
Catchy icon for starters. Then the price - if it is more than 2$, the icon must be REALLY good :> For the games above this price, I check reviews and some gameplay videos. For the games below 2$, I just buy them. At the game page, I look at the screenshots, if gameplay screenshots look nice, I might read the description. If there aren't any screenshots from actual gameplay, I don't bother. I don't care about user comments and ratings tho. You know how they say about people opinions being like an asshole - anyone has it and they all stink.
There you go, all defensive again and totally missing the point. Someone suggested here that you could make a new thread and ask the community if anyone would like do new artwork for you in return for credit in the game. Why have you ignored that idea? By saying this (quoted above) about what Apple has told you to change just PROVES you are only willing to do the minimum work needed to pass submission, COMPLETELY ignoring all the other advice given here. Funny how the people who go on and on about how much effort they put into things are the ones who actually do the least. We've all tried our best to help you, but you have just proved we're wasting our time.
^Seriously ? The icon matters that much ? I rarely see the icon until i buy the game as i'm watching youtube videos or reviews about the game. So if a games 'expensive' it has to have an exceptional icon ?
If the game has appealing screenshot and a decent trailer with little gameplay , and is less than 2 dollar i´ll buy it. It it´s expensive, i need to read a review, and see some comments from other ppl .
Obviously you havent read the whole thread. Apple sent me a response just late yesturday about what specifical I needed to change. When I started this thread apple didnt give me anything specific until I asked , so I didnt know until last night what needed to be changed specifically. I didnt ignore anything it obvious you havent read all my posts, I have contacted various artist threw PM not on threads. The ones I did contact are not really keen on revenue share, so I have to keep trying. While most on posters in this thread are positive I learned my lesson. I wont be starting threads in this section again.
I love simple one touch smooth gameplay and tiny wings fits the bill. Its the king of casual games so far.
The icon definitely matters.. I scroll through heaps of games on the recents list, and I'll only actually click on a game if it has a good icon. I will mainly instabuy a game based on genre (must be puzzle) great graphics (nintendo worthy) and a unique gameplay element. Or the new craze, such as water physics. No offense, but I personally wouldn't buy the game based on the screen shot you provided. By looking at the screen shot I can already tell it's not the genre of game I like, and I don't like the graphics either. Polishing graphics take alot of work and attention to detail. But if you actually want to have a shot at success, it's definitely worth the extra effort. I could never buy an unpolished game. I just cant stand them. I am almost repulsed by them to be honest. They make me gag. (it's the 21st century!) even back in the 90s games were more polished then some of the games in the AppStore today. I especially hate when 2 graphics don't go together. Ie your backdrop is bright and cartoonish and fun, but then you have this ugly spiky ball that doesn't match in at all.
Yea it matters a lot. If you read reviews, news, forums and stuff like that, maybe not.. But for the people just randomly browsing around or checking N&N and top lists or even recently submitted games, the icon is crucial. The name of the game is also important, forgot to include that one in previous post. I'm not saying people (or me FWIW) are buying the game because of good icon. But without good icon, we won't see the description page, we won't see the screenshots, summary, comments, simply because we won't click on it :> If that makes sense, I sometime struggle to express my thoughts in english...
Not saying i'm right but when you first previewed your game in the upcoming section i mentioned the buttons werent even aligned properly. Did you say 'thanks' or 'i'll fix that, good point', no just ignored. So it appears you have no 'quality control', you were happy submitting it with some glaring issues and that scares me a bit. I havent searched for any of your assets so i dont know if thats true or not but i really hope its not (eg you basically did a google search and used any graphics you wanted to without permission). Plus theyre pretty bad graphics so surely thats not the case ? Lots of people in upcoming say they have a game coming out soon, need beta testers (dont have to offer vouchers as incentives, lots of people would do it for free or just have their name in the 'about' bit of a game), theres lots of free tools out there where people download betas so they can test it. You 100% need some testers as you thought the original was fine for Apple to pass when clearly it wasnt (Due to some glaring graphic problems). Get some free testers, listen to their feedback which i'm sure will be great and in the end your game/product will be far far better. You can start threads here, you cant just run and hide when the going gets tough or you cant handle tough criticism. I'm sure everyone here wants this game to do well as many of us love platformers, specially mario style ones. But not listening to feedback will totally doom your project i'm afraid. Dont run just because the going gets tough. It'll be worth it in the end but listen to testers or gamers with experience.
Judging by your signature you already have another game about to be released? Didn't you just finish your last one?
- famous/fave developer or publisher - screen shots that show the in games, not just the option menu or picture of heroes or villains - game type - 0.99 - 1.99$ Sometime reads some review in forums, especially here (TA) Most importantly, when there is a thread about the game.. No shill. It really turn me off
For me, it's all about originality and polish in a casual game. If I see solid graphics and polished gameplay in a video, my interest is piqued.
Here is a tip for you. Not just regarding this particular game, but generally. Pay more attention to details. In your signature, advertising your new game, you write when it should be App Store. Button and GUI misalignments were already mentioned. This should be something that hurts your eyes. You might think "meh, who cares about something like this?". Well, Apple customers, usually. Regarding your new bird game, you're making the same mistakes you did with this one. The game mechanics are alright, but it lacks the final polish. The HUD looks like debug info, and you have to add a lot more particles and tweening. And even though the top lists might suggest something else, adding birds to any game doesn't guarantee instant success. Watch this video and apply it to you games: [hqyoutube]Fy0aCDmgnxg[/hqyoutube]
Ok I have posted 3 or 4 times already that Iam looking for an artist and that apple has sent me a 2nd message outlining what I have to change. Its like everyone here is saying Iam not listening but I said over and over that Iam going to fix the problem. What post are you guys reading? By the way excellent video, I actually downloaded it to my computer, this guy in the video nailed some things I never thought of.
