I watched the youtube video, great level design. And I feel the story is good too! You definitely put a huge efforts in it. I read some posts in the thread, I think the best way is: on one hand email Apple and make them write clearly what they really want you to change (ask them to list the items which they expect you to change); on the other hand keep on trying submit your game. The thing is the email they replied to you was too vague. By the way, I think you can star a new thread and list all the images in your game, and ask people in this forum to polish for you, and you give those who help you with the graphics credits in your game.
Dude that doodle jump warning may become extremely addictive is old. Its sounds really corny now. Its better if you post something about the gameplay, tell us what the game is about.
Yes I will go back and work on the game some more and find someone to polish the graphic's for me. I thank everyone here for helping me stay strong and for the support. If you know anyone who can help please PM me the details. Iam broke so it has to be revenue sharing for now.
interesting.. if this gets stronger checked this might do good to the quality of games.. at least optical what i would be interested in is the screenshots they attached you to your message.. did they added notes to them? the full resolution screenshots are thoose the ones? whats up with the actual gui? in every screenshots it has different positions, fonts etc. looks like bad mockups rather than actual screenshots.. then of course the gfx quality is really bad.. i can't even comprehend any positive comments.. it looks like the early webpages full of ugly animated gifs.. its obvious that the art assets are collected from all over the net with some additional self made assets in the mix.. and it looks bad.. has no art style whatsoever.. roy your problem is that your still stuck creating junk.. you don't care about quality at all and your next offering will be turned down aswell if you don't up the ante.. at least you worked for imaginary companies who did worst than you.. *shrug* kudos to apple..
What makes you instant buy a casual game that you dont know much about Iam a developer and would like to know what makes people see a casual game and instantly buy it even though you might not know too much about it. Example: -you only saw screenshot's and icon -you saw a video and thats it!! What would make you try something that normally you would wait but for some reason it draws you to press buy on impulse.
I dont know who roy is probably someone you worked with in the past and didnt like I guess. Apparently after apple sent me info about 30 minutes ago, the problem is much more clear. It wasnt the in game graphic's it was the UI. The start, select, restart, menu, etc. They were much more specific the 2nd time around about what need to be changed. Also they pointed out some background image's 2 to be exact that were pixelated. So while I wait to gather funds or hopefully get an artist to clean up my graphic's, I will focus on another game. I dont know why apple wasnt clearer the 1st time, the 1st message was very generic almost as if they pressed a button to export an answer. From the sounds of it you thought my game was crap, well everyone has thier own opinion. You seem very happy my game got rejected, must have happen to you alot since you have tons of post's but no games released under your name. I guess you had a developers package for a whole year and apple rejected every single one of your application;s hence the reason you havent posted any game you made. Anyway instead of trying to bash someone in the future ,stay on topic Mr.Ugly. Everyone else dont respond to his comments as this will be my only response to him in this thread. If Mr.Ugly reponds again with venom, I will ignore his post. Now that I know whats wrong with super meebo , I can start working on it some more. Thanks to everyone else for thier kind words and support. P.S. There are 3 video's with the game in action Mr.Ugly so while your compaining about screenshot's everyone else has seen it in motion. Your a little behind, please try to catch up.
Not often I reply to these things, I tend to keep my mouth shut (many years experience that forums are full of idiots who have nothing better to do than argue, throw unverified facts found on Google and not give comprehensive and constructive arguments), however... here I am. Unfortunately PixelPower, Mr. Ugly is right, or very nearly right - the graphics are not very good. Sorry. I'll try and be a bit more constructive however: The backgrounds are, I think, quite nice, the latter one with the purple mountains reminds me of Shadow of the Beast, quite Roger Dean-ish, very nice, so if Apple have criticised the game due to those backgrounds then I think you've got a pretty hard-faced reviewer and every right to complain, and I think Mr. Ugly is wrong on that one. However... He is correct and YOU are totally to blame if you've submitted a game where the UI is, as Mr. Ugly mentioned, all over the place. If you're submitted game isn't like that (different positioning, differing colouring, EVEN different fonts!!!) then WHY are you posting them here. It's suicidal, surely you must know how bad this is going to be for your end-players, the people paying you money! The arrows, the blue ones, they are NOT very good at all, really, you HAVE to be honest with yourself and realise they looked like they've just been thrown on the game and AGAIN, each screen shot shows a different positioning! And to highlight a few other 'little' things: 1) The earth tiling doesn't align correctly, 2) That red enemy, it DOES look horrifically bad, 3) The steps on the last screenshot, they aren't aligned properly, I admire every other member who has encouraged you to continue, to not give up, this forum I have realised over the past few months DOES offer encouragement and it is VERY good at what it does but you also have to be honest with yourself, stand back, look at what you've done and iron out those creases. I'm positive there's some member out there who would be willing to help with the graphics for a stupidly low fee or even free of charge to get a starting block into the industry, but if you're showing off a product that has huge flaws on basic things, and this is at submission stage, no one is going to bother. Please, don't look at this message as an attack, it's a friendly, trying to be polite post to say "hey, there are some pretty damn obvious problems here you need to sort out" and it's up to you to take them on board. Take what Mr. Ugly has said as constructive criticism and come back with a better product, he seems an honest person so I'm sure when the problems are ironed out you'll get praise just as much as criticism.
Quality of graphics, originality of graphics, originality of premise, art style, checking it isn't like Temple Run, Subway Surfers and the like, decent looking app icon and making sure the English in the description is of good quality. Hope this helps.
I never buy casual game except sometimes I think I have more money than I predicted. The only casual game I buy with limited money budget is Pocket God, in fact I don't like the game at all. I realised that(I don't like the game) after I played the game for a few minutes. Well the reason why I must buy it is there are so many episodes in it, keep update and advertise is a good idea. I even suggest you divid your already finish maked game into parts for near future updates at a short time basis and emphasis how many free content added in each update.
Your graphics seems of quite good quality, and I think there shouldn't be any problem as such, but I think you should try to submit it again in a different times and hopefully it will be accpeted in the iTune soon!
Agree with some of the comments here from 'J'. Dont get me wrong top marks for creating this game, i couldnt do anything like this. But i would try and get someone to do the graphics. I LOVE retro graphics and they are normally known as being quite simple BUT some of the graphics in your screenshots do look quite poor. I mentioned before that the control buttons aren't even level, one is lower down than the other which looks amateur-ish. Also the jump arrow is in a different location in a few screenshots, again thats basic and something easy to amend surely ? I'm sure its difficult getting feedback when it might appear to be negative but its best to show the game to a few testers and take their feedback on board. Personally think the main character looks okay but that character in the second screenshot at the top with the weird eyes looks very poor. I hope you dont give up as i love platformers, look at Commander Pixman, very basic graphics but looks/feels like an old Atari VCS game. At the moment a lot of your graphics look poor i hate to say, think Apple was being harsh when i see a LOT of terrible games and graphics but i know its easy to say but try to take the criticism as constructive. To me games are all about gameplay, i'm not too bothered by graphics as i was brought up on old 8 bit games where gameplay was key. BUT your graphics do need a bit of polish for sure, a different font for the score/lives would be better as well but please align all your buttons for sure. I'm sure the game isn't too far off but you know a LOT of people would happily test your game for free, create a beta version and give it to say 5-10 people for feedback before submitting to Apple again. I still dont know why a lot of indie devs dont do this, always useful to get feedback and testers (and again people will do it for nothing). But despite all this good luck with it, please dont give up, dont think its too far off.
Before you resubmit, do make sure you have proper licenses for all the art assets you are using in the game. As others have noted, there are clearly assets in the game that have been made by someone else, and unless they're covered under a free-to-use license that permits commercial use, their presence in the game is a copyright infringement.
Think i mentioned it in your other thread. I check out a few iOS game sites, i also like to check out the comments from real users in a game thread on forums such as here. I look at the App store comments but often they mostly appear fake with 5/5 reviews and 'best app ever in the universe' type one-liners which puts me off. Also youtube videos which show gameplay, NOT some silly polished marketing intro where it doesnt show me the game itself. If theres say 3 or 4 people here with over 100 posts who say the games great i'll check it out. If theres one or two shill posters who post fake 'this games great' (which you might notice i hate !) then i'll go nowhere near that game. Dont care about the app icon at all !
hey roy.. its funny that your responses to my feedback is always the same no matter what account you used.. how many time did you get banned from this forum? 2-3 times.. sorry i still think you are gamemaker using roy m. and hey you rerelease flybird under a new name with some changed gfx? awesome.. looks so not the same you are my favourite pro game developer, keep it up , it cant get worser. and how quickly you got the new casual flybird errm.. beautiful bird.. going.. amazing.. this thread is fun.. as for my kudos to apple.. yes i think its good that they check at least for some minimal quality standards.. not sure what you borked up with simple stuff like a gui and menues but you surely dont need too much time to change a few buttons and search for alternate images on google... i hope you got yourself a new dev account, else the charrade falls flat when super beebop and flybird 2 are released by krehol games..
