    Well if I'm playing a ranked/tournament match, I'm playing to win. If you want to play a keepaway akuma becuase that will get you the win, then fine, do that. Friendly matches are just that, friendly. I'll play against keepaway akumas once, but why would I rematch them if I'm playing for fun? Chasing down someone who just air fireballs and teleports isn't my idea of fun, especially with a character like chun li...

    Well 'coward at heart' is a bit over the top. Sorry my post came off pretty salty... But we've talked about this in this thread before, it's my fault for not knowing how to counter your strategy. The old 'If your strategy's working, why would you change it?' still stands I guess.

    I'm not exaggerating though - it's my only way of playing Akuma with any sort of effectiveness. Every time i've ever tried to go into a flashy entertaining beat-em-up mode while practicing Akuma I got dizzied and roflstomped faster than you can say "ow."

    I'm not really a fan of the char - I was just trying to go for some variety with the guys I picked, rather than pick Blanka or Gief for 90% of my matches.

    Hence the Fei and Akuma.

    If it's not your cup of tea, that's fair enough. I simply won't use him when we play. I know how frustrating a "keep away" game can get (as Gief, I've played a lot of Dhalsim's that just seemed impenetrable, as well as those damn bisons with their +6000 frame advantage standing kicks and automatic cross-ups, uuber-priority air kicks). I certainly wasn't trying to troll or anything - just figured i'd dust off my Akuma.

    No worries.

    Well now I feel like a jerk :S I think I just said that because I was salty about losing to you :p By all means if you want to play akuma, go for it. It's probably more fun than getting bodied by your gief/blanka...

    It's all good. I got stomped like 4 times in a row by this Japanese Sagat - each time because the lag was so bad it was a slideshow and the entire thing threw my timing off (if I input an ex roll as blanka during a non-active "lag" moment, i simply get hit because the next second, when the lag ceases, i'm holding forward like an idiot).

    I wanted to go to his house and give him a blanka ball to the face in real life, I was so frustrated.

    Snooper I might have been dreaming but I think you sent me an invite to play at like 3 in the morning and the trumpet noise gamecenter makes scared the shit out of me.

    The worst part is although it woke me up I seriously considered playing you but then decided against it because I did not want to imagine the wrath of my wife if I woke her up playing Street Fighter.:p

    I play 90% of my matches with the sound off :D

    And my phone is always on vibrate. Maybe thats why I missed a lot of invites too...

    It's probably a mental thing, but I feel like I don't play as well with the sound off. I think it may partially be due to my reacting to sounds in the game as well as what I see on the screen. I could be wrong, but I feel like some moves are ambiguous if I'm watching them but the sounds involved give away what my opponent is actually doing.

    I asked a few pages ago but don't think I got a response. I'm having a lot of fun playing with Chun Li these days but can't get over the top against good players. Any tips to someone looking to improve with her? BnBs, etc?

    I'm the same need sound, find it helps my timing alot, also helps with stuff like hit confirms if your fingers are covering the play. Plus you're robbing yourself if you dont get to hear Balrog's my fight moneeeeey or Fei's I losttttttttt!!!!!!!

    Haha. True. Although I always have to cover the speaker when I beat one of the women. Man their screams are high pitched.

    BTW, I think I randomly matched up against you a few days ago. I remember the name was very similar to your TA name (or possibly the same). Sound right?

    I agree, it's always better to play with sound, but oddly enough I turn off the sound when the matches have certain amount of lag, which is most of the time.

    When there's lag, I find that the sound tends to throw off my timing.
    Having no sound allows me to better gauge the speed of the game and time my response with more accurate coordination.

    Although I admit with some characters, you just gotta have the sound on.

    Since there's some talk about Akuma, I've been messing around with him in the training room. Geezes his combos are so devastating and easy enough to pull off that I wonder why I don't see more aggressive Akumas. Is it because I play Zangief and its just safer just to spam fireballs and play keep away? Also I understand he's a glass cannon.

    I avoided using Akuma in the pass because everybody seems to hate playing against him.

    I've seen so many player comments that goes something like this:

    "Akuma = cheap"
    "you're Akuma"
    "Akuma = Noob"
    "You Akuma I quit"
    "F*ck Akuma"
    etc etc...

    Anyways, he does seem fun and I just might take him out for a spin after work. :)

    I never much liked him as a main but saying he's cheap for using the move set he was given is like calling Gief cheap for SPDing whenever he has the chance or saying Sim's cheap for using his arms and teleports to zone someone out.

    I haven't busted out Akuma in a long time but if you wanted to play some randoms at some point against a sub par Akuma I'd be game to be a moving training dummy.

    It's a shame most people play him as an ultra lame zoning character, because he has a ton of offensive weapons and is so fun to play when people use him properly as a rushdown character

    His combos are so easy, the stupid jumpkick, st. kicks, uppercut combo that people do is like 290 damage. They should be doing jump kick, st. p, tatsu, uppercut which is 349 damage and is just as mashable.

    If they're good, they're doing jump kick, st. kicks, st. p, tatsu, uppercut which is an insane 413 damage if the uppercut hits 3 times. And the only frame link is from standing kick into standing punch.

    People also do absolutely stupid stuff like uppercut, fadc, uppercut WHICH DOES THE SAME amount of damage as an uppercut if you cancel the first one after 2 hits. Way to waste two bars, moron.

    Speaking of wasting meter - what is your favorite "I'm stylin' on you" combo. That combo that is difficult to pull off and a inefficient use of meter, but let's your opponent know that you're much better than him. For me, it's Sagat's jump kick, cr. k, high tiger shot cancelled into lvl 2 focus attack, cr. k, tiger uppercut, fadc, step kick. It does max ~450 damage (I've seen it go as low as 392), crumples the opponent midway through, and uses all 4 bars of meter. A simple jump kick, cr. k, uppercut, fadc, step kick does 405. I love it though and is so satisfying to hit in a match.
