"Definitely getting the iPod Touch 5th gen though. Not going to play Apple's game of getting a new device every year or every other year."

You know, I used to be angry about this, too, but if you think about it, it could be worse. Have you SEEN the fragmentation on the Android market? Imagine being one of the unfortunate folks who buys a Galaxy S, or Tab, just a little bit ago - when they were brand-new - only to find out that, oops, the new tegra devices are on their way and will be infinitely better.

Better an upgrade each year (or usually with iOS, every 2 years, as only then does the software no longer support your device), then every few months, IMO.

Honestly, this is a good and bad thing. The good of course is that it will be able to bring any a bigger audience possibly, and multiplayer will thrive. On the hand, many players may be alienated due to the IAP, which many consumers still don't feel confident in purchasing. I honestly think they should go back to their original price model. Gameloft, out of all people, should know that teenagers don't have the attention span to finish the first few sentences of an app description.

Hm, actually both the iOS and device upgrade annually. But what you say is definitely true. I read a few articles just last week after finding one on yahoo's front page about the stated 'fragmentation' of the android OS. The articles stated that your device becomes 'old' most times before 6 months even rolls around.

IAP is ****ing retarded. Not like it's gonna stop anyway of this game being pirated. Already alienated one customer. Plus if they start with IAP for a FULL GAME what's stopping them for doing updates for IAP either. Lame.

  6. I agree. I'm not against IAPs, but the fact that it costs $6.99 to unlock the full game (I think) is a huge turn-off. I don't understand why Gameloft doesn't just stick to its separate demo/full game apps model...

It's not free. It's a retarded way of suckering idiots into downloading the game and then charging to play the full game. Its their way of trying to be clever with the 'lite' game system. Except you think your getting a full game but instead you play a level and bow you have to buy the rest of it. It serves no point. If they are trying to combat piracy they should take beejive's stance and blacklist UDIDs. It works. But this is a complete turn off. -2 for gameloft.

Well then if you don't like it don't buy it, simple as that, quit bitching about how you don't think it's fair, and how your not going to buy their games, go ahead and show them....

+1, as I've stated before, Gameloft doesn't give a shit if you stop buying their games even if you own every single one of them to date. Go and show them indeed..

It's exactly like having a lite version and a full version. It's just all in one app. What exactly is wrong with that?

I like the good old-fashioned way. A full version and a lite version. In some cases, it would take less download time too. And potentially less confusion. Personally, I absolutely HATE In-App Purchases. That's my stance.

This seems just false. You seem to know exactly what you're getting. I think it's a bit silly to be upset about people supposedly tricking you, when you actually know exactly what you're getting.

You have a good point there bro/sis. You're right As long as the game is smooth, with great gameplay, I can really forgive in the graphics department. I also read somewhere that starfront will only be supporting 3rd gen and up. I hope all waiting and hype is worthwhile. Sacred odyssey was just terrible in my opinion. After Dead Space, gameloft needs to step their game up. Sorry I am obsessed with DS:)

Not to mention our RTS choices are limited, and C&C still crashes. Gotta give credit to Gameloft for making stable apps.

Yeah the whole fairness argument about the IAP lites is moot.

Gameloft is a prime example of a company that's in it entirely for the money, and couldn't really care less about anyones opinion of their games. I don't blame them either, developing games is a business, not a charity. Whether it's fair or right for them to go the IAP route, we just have to deal with it.

Same way with their separate HD versions. They could make most of their games universal with little effort. Don't believe me? Look up utilities like FullForce and RetinaPad. An adjustment to the ui makes the separate versions indistinguishable.

Same way with their cloning strategy. There's a reason they dont make original games, and it's not because we dont want them.

We've put iOS gaming on a pedestal way above the rest of the gaming markets, we like to think all devs are doing it because they enjoy games, and enjoy bringing quality titles to the table. The reality is though, the AppStore is no different, people still love money, and if riding off of God of War, Resident Evil, Star Craft, Zelda, Pokemon, and countless other established names will get them money, they won't think twice about doing it.

As consumers, we just happen to get lucky when one of these clones isn't a reskinning of another clone, and is enjoyable. It's not just gameloft either, but they are the shining example.

That being said, I'm looking forward to this game, and I hope it does well. Someone else mentioned that big name studios should take notice of gameloft capitalizing on their ideas, and take the AppStore seriously, and I agree. Maybe all these clones running around will get some attention :p

I'm all for "cloning" good ideas. I think far too many people try to reinvent the wheel (and a square wheel doesn't roll very well) rather than leverage what already is known to work.

There's no question that publishers know that iPad buyers are less price-sensitive than iPhone/iPad buyers, and so they charge a higher price for the HD version even when there is no extra work involved in making it. I don't see anything wrong with that either. My biggest complaint is still with Apple---they should provide a way for publishers to sell regular and HD versions at a single combined price. Then the market could work to set the "right" price.
