We're with you! We wanted to have an experience that's as identical as possible across the iPhone and iPod Touch platforms, so we nixed vibration early-on in development.
The game is playable on any iPhone or iPod Touch device, even the 3G and first-gen Touch. The 3GS will have a higher framerate, of course, but the game is most definitely playable on even the older iDevices As for ore puns, we originally had a LOT of those in the game - but we removed quite a lot of them. It is definitely possible to have too much of a good thing in that case! Lastly, 90's PC games FTW!
Mostly Asteroids for the core concept, but we expanded on it with a lot of newer gameplay concepts, since we were pretty sure most people have played Asteroids by now We took cues from Diablo, old-school adventure games, open-world games... Pretty much every game we've ever played helped influence Space Miner in some way!
Will there be places to refill the craft? I will think rather than destroying the asteroids only, the craft can go around planting humans on the lonely planets and if they survive creating life on the planets, you will gain more points which can used to upgrade your craft...more like a time management + shooter game.
Hi akame! The gameplay revolves around collecting ore (and scrap metal from enemies you destroy) and filling your ship hull - each ship type has its own cargo limit, and when you max out your cargo capacity, you have to return to the mining station to unload it and get paid. When you return to the station, you can upgrade your ship and use money you've earned to buy new equipment. While asteroid destruction is a main gameplay mechanic, we also have missions that involve combat with various enemy types, activating special "anti-dimensional buoys", saving stranded space tourists, and more!
Hi everyone! Thanks for all your excellent questions so far! The SPACE MINER IMMORTALITY PACKAGE GIVEAWAY ends TOMORROW (1/30) at MIDNIGHT, so if you haven't asked a question yet, there's still plenty of time to pick our brains - and pick up a shot at winning your name in the game, an iTunes card, and a promo code for the game. The following forum-goers are currently in the pool: songbird Khamous therhino jak56 Jarek Vovin LordGek Mudkipz223 kmacleod Coops58 Devilishly_Good OnePhatKatt The_Guy akame If your name is on the list, you're in the contest! If it's not, then ask us a question! We'll answer it and add your name to the list. Good luck, everyone!
Can I join the draw please? Thanks! And if that doesn't count as a question, are there different aseroid types? Do they give different amounts of money?
How many differen plane parts are there? Are there a lot of possible combinations? Looks really cool anyway!
What's the estimated playtime? Is there a lot of things to do, or do we just kill stuff and earn money?
Hi zbob! There are 7 main asteroid types, but they appear in a variety of sizes - from tiny mini-asteroids to screen-filling megastroids. We also have asteroid-like hazards in levels as well: icestroids shatter into deadly projectiles and gastroids explode at the slightest provocation. Each of the main asteroid types in the game give different values of money, so as you get deeper into the asteroid field, you'll find rarer types of asteroids with more valuable types of loot.
Hi bobz56! We were actually asked this question before, but it's certainly worth repeating the answer There are 7 unique hulls/ships that you can buy (each with their own stats), along with 84 different items that you can equip that fall into 8 categories: Engine, Reactor, Shield, Weapons, Ore Collector, Scanner and Alien Tech. There are literally thousands of possible combinations!
Thanks for the question, Kunning! The average playtime for somebody completing the storyline and not really exploring the asteroid field seems to be around 6 hours. Of course, that's only if you focus entirely on the main story missions and don't explore the asteroid field for new equipment, alien technology, bonus missions, etc. If you do that, your playtime will be significantly longer. Some achievements also reward players for discovering every sector, finding every derelict ship, etc. There are a lot of secrets to find and a lot of achievements to unlock beyond the main storyline
Thanks for the info, and that sounds great! Call me Jeff. The rant below isn't meant for you though, I'm just sort of peeved nobody calls me that except for a few people. Seriously, the NEXT TIME someone calls me Kunning, I'm going to strangle them. Is calling me by my real name too much to ask?
$4.99 sounds kinda expensive, will there be any plans to lower the price or are you guys still deciding?
Do some of the asteroids pack dangers of their own BESIDES simply being big and possibly smunching your ship if you bump them?
Hi Wishful, We think it's a pretty great deal for 5 bucks! You get a full storyline, side missions, 48 levels to explore, thousands of ship customizations and more! That said, we're definitely planning on having some kind of a lite version after launch to help demonstrate the quality of the game for hesitant gamers
Hi again LordGek! Each new asteroid type is actually heavier than the last, and if your ship hull is too light, slamming into an asteroid can send your ship into a spin and stun you momentarily. The smunching is definitely what you should be worried about, though ;-)
Hi again, Jarek! Sorry for not answering sooner - to answer your questions, we won't be supporting user playlists right out the gate (it would've added a bunch of new audio issues that we'd need to resolve before submitting the game), but we're planning on getting the functionality in there in a future update. As for voice acting, we considered it briefly, but truth be told, there are so many cutscenes in the game (over a hundred!) that having voice acting for all of them, even SOME of them, would have increased the size of the game by a huge amount. There is SOME voice work in the game, though! Whenever you save a stranded space tourist, they'll thank you for your help in a variety of voices.
