Protection from piracy very, very easy. Every developer can add protection code within 10 minutes without problem (for ipa builds and iap purchases). Why Gameloft or EA doesn't adding protection? I think because 75% pirates buying games after try.
We'll I can see where you are coming from but I can't see Josh from Crescent Moon lying about it. Some of my absolute favorite games are from him and I think he is a straight shooter. Just my 2 cents.
Maybe I'm missing the point, but most people who pirate a 69p game (or indeed any game) wouldn't buy it anyway so no sales have been lost.
I always like to support devs, if project really good. For free game I can purchase any 1$ iap, even if I don't need them. Or I can buy any other game from the same developer (not publisher)
Ok...I installed this on release day but deleted due to space constraints. I just re-installed. Will I get the bonus coin pack or not?
I know Dead Trigger going free due to piracy was a lie, but this IS Crescent Moon. So I'm willing to bite my tongue.
Just don't put any ads in a game that a bunch of people paid for ! And please let me play the game without having to spend any more real cash. I bought this one precisely because it WASN'T freemium. I was glad to pay my money, and have a game I could play no strings attached. If the dev wants more of my money by changing the implied bargain we had, this game will be deleted pronto, and I won't be spending any more of my cash on his stuff. Crap like this just pisses people off, as witnessed by many of the messages left here. Add me to that lot. This was a real bonehead move.
Yeah you guys make a good point. If you buy the game then it goes freemium and suddenly has timers you got rooked! Id be annoyed too. Not saying this dev is going to do that but Id be angry because it's most like false advertisement. I wonder if apple would get annoyed. It's cheating someone. You make a deal when you buy a game. Money for software is a deal. Would not be right for them to change it. Of course if they switch the game from 99 cents to free and simply add an ingame currency system that allows you to get ahead in the game. That's not so bad, maybe if they have you some currency or something special. Of course, there should be no effect on the game itself. If there's now ads, the original ppl who bought it should not get them even if it now 4.99 to remove the ads. The 99 cents was a legal binding deal right? So they can't change the deal, that's fraudulent and theft. Also It's the principle of the thing. Again though, maybe this dev isn't going to put in timers or things that the player will even be bothered by. Simply put; mAybe the player wouldn't have spent that dollar on 20,000 coins if he downloaded the game for free. Kind of seems rotten Hmmmm. EDIT: the feller above me is in agreement I see. A bargain is a bargain. The more I think on it the more I think changing it like this is wrong. The whole nature of the deal has been changed! Not right. Principles guys, principles!
Think everyone will get the coin pack, even those who dload it for free between now and the update as I don't think there's a way to distinguish who purchased and who didn't via the update.
I've been trying to live with the recent price drops and moves to freemium and have pretty much learned to just live with it. But the piracy thing still doesn't make a lot of sense to me. Now EVERYONE will download it for free so that certainly doesn't combat piracy. And, yes, I suppose we may get some kind of coin bonus (which, ironically, will benefit those who pirated it to begin with). But going free will also mean the balance of the game HAS to change or else the dev really may make no money at all. And, then, as others posted pirates usually can find a way to get the IAPs free too. So who does it really help? I'm almost considering not updating when it goes live because I'd rather keep the current balance and earn things. We may get more gold, but if prices for things change, it may not make as much of a difference. Future updates will likely add more upgrades, etc., and we'll be back at a disadvantage if store prices increase (which I feel has to happen or there would be no sense at all in going free). Anyway, price drops I've learned to just accept. But changes in business models.... that's usually a tougher pill to swallow because it usually doesn't benefit early adopters regardless of any one-time bonus they get. Mentioned this in the main thread but for cheap games like this I think the best approach may be for devs to have a game launch for free for a few days. Then raise the price. The thousands of downloads for early adopters may lead to a ton of sales because of those people saying what a great game it is.
My comment isn't about being upset that I spent .99 on a game only to have the price drop so fast. It's that they dropped it this quickly and may have lost a lot of money by doing so. The game is well worth the $ I paid. But at the same time quick price drops have led to me having a lot of newly released games saved in my watch list because I know they're likely to be free very soon after launch, so why pay for them?
