No Tails, Knuckles, Silver, Shadow, Black Knight, werewolf, hoverboard racing, or girl version of Sonic?

Sega's iPhone people are obviously on a different page than the Sonic Team is.

OMG TEH BLUE BLUR EATS ALL UR MODEZ 7 FOR BREAKFAST. HES GOT A RUDE TUDE AND POWERFUL BLAST PROCESSING!

Well it's easy for Sega to release Sonic 1 for the iPhone, it's been ported pretty much everywhere already and it will sell... although I can't help but feel a new Sonic title with tilt controls in the classic 2D style (enhanced graphics though!) would be a much better move.

Of course that's a lot of effort to undertake...

I'm seriously sick of this game. I've played it sooo many times. Can't they port Sonic Advance or Sonic Rush?

yes I have both sonic collection and sega megadrive collection for PS2. It doesn't have to be that complete, I just want Sonic 1, 2 ,3. They're the best.

Sonic Rush is great too. It's a faithful incarnation of the original, very fast platformer. I hope that dev team is the one bringing Sonic to iPhone.

oh my goodness..I love me some Sonic! I had the original when it was new! I have played it a gazillion times and the sequels. The dreamcast version is my absolute favorite!

I am def looking forward to this since I haven't played a Sonic game since 1999.

I would actually prefer the Sonic Ultimate Collection like they have on the PS3/XB360. That would be AWESOME and actually legitimize a premium price tag.

I may be picking this up, but only if it doesn't have those sucky graphics from the sonic for genesis. I'm okay with graphics from Sonic Advance games or anything better than that.

Well I have to disagree...I want it WITH the genesis Graphics. I want it to sound like genesis...shoot if I had my choice I would just play it on Genesis.

How much will this cost? Hopefully five or less.

lmao, you mean the recently released, Sonic's Ultimate Genesis Collection? The one with Sonic all over the box art, but with no actual Sonic games within the collection?

Honestly, that is the one I that want too.

All this time between the release of Super Monkey Ball for this platform and now, and all Sega announces is a port of the original Genesis/MegaDrive Sonic the Hedgehog?

    Seriously...WTF Sega!

There better be something else in development. I mean, Super Monkey Ball was an original built for iTouch/Phone game (the IP is older, yes, but the iTouch/Phone game itself is wholly original to this platform). They couldn't do the same with Sonic?

Here's the good thing about the port: Sonic 1 is a classic. Here's the bad thing about it: it's a port, and therefore is not built to take advantage of the unique properties of this platform.

And they've taken all this time to do this? Even longer still because the game won't be due until the end of Spring? WTF! There better be something else that they're developing.

If all this time was wasted just for this, I will be sorely disappointed in Sega. They could've at least ported something like, say, the Sonic Jump mobile games in the meantime. Just to hold us over.

While I understand your anger and frustration, I also should perhaps suggest that you count your blessings that you have a idevice, and Sega IS bringing Sonic to our devices in the first place. Who knows what goes on in those big companies, and decisions that are made/broken.

I for one am happy as pie that Sonic is coming to the iphone/ipod touch, spring is on the 21st (I think?), so we might not have that long to wait.

We don't know what is coming but I don't see why one would get so angry about it. Enjoy your idevice and keep checking the news :)

Nice, except that Sega is on record stating that they are very, very happy with the profitable returns they've gotten off of Super Monkey Ball sales on this device. So an original, made for the iTouch/Phone game could've been developed alongside this port.

Happy that they're bringing it to the device in the first place?

Of course they were going to port it to the platform. It's their best known IP and the returns they've gotten on previous games (Super Monkey Ball, Columns) have shown them that it is a viable platform for game development and that there is a sizable audience willing to pay for Sega games. So, y'know, I ain't exactly gonna be going "oh wow, Sonic 1!" when I pretty much was assured it was coming anyway. It'd been silly for Sega to have NOT ported the game over.

The complaint, however, is that I expected more than just an announcement of a port of a nearly two decade old game. I expected an announcement of an original, made for the iTouch/Phone platform game.

The iTouch/Phone development kit was released a year ago.

It took Sega a year to port over a Genesis game to iTouch/Phone. So, actually, the wait has been longer than it should have been. They could've released a port of this game quite some time ago. The fact that they didn't, and haven't announced any NEW games specifically made for this device is the basis of my disappointment.

So...no...I'm not very happy with Sega's very meager announcement. I expected more, and I still do. Hopefully they announce more than just ports.

Don't confuse anger with extreme disappointment.

Sega has been very happy with the returns they've gotten on sales of Super Monkey Ball, and after how many months all they announce is a port of a nearly 2 decade old game.

Should I be happy with that?

Maybe...but not too happy. Not so happy that I overlook the fact that they could've done MORE. I'd be happier with an original, made for the iTouch/Phone Sonic game in addition to the port, and there is a sizable chunk of the potential audience that probably agrees with that assessment.

And going by your logic if I had, say, a DS and all Nintendo did was release ports of SNES and NES games instead of original, made for the DS games, I should be totally content and never ever levy a complaint. Perish even the thought of having a demand for original software in addition to ports of classic software.

I think you guys dont realise that SEGA has better things to do than make iPhone games all year, they do work on other consoles.

I don't wanna see any ports, just a brand-new Sonic game, and (while still retaining the old-school sidescrolling feel) be formatted for the iPotch/ iPhone.

Truth. And spiffyone, most exisiting devs wont even port at all, you should be thankful. They, im sure, have considered both options, and decided that a sonic port would please many, many people.

Sonic 1, 2, 3 and sonic&knuckles are in the collection actually, but you can't combine any games with te s&k add-on in the collection.
