Id like to get an iPhone, mainly for the calender syncing for my laptop. I have a iTouch 2nd gen that I got for free with my computer, which I can use but I hate lugging around two devices.

How is the battery life after like an hour of N.O.V.A over wi-fi, or off of it (or like Inotia 2 for offline).. and how are multiple sessions, say maybe two or three times on some days.

I will be using the phone on most weekdays from ~10 AM to ~6-8 PM with:
-Music (and not just one long playlist while it is in 'in-your-pocket' mode, i will be switching songs frequently
    -Gaming (wifi/and not) 1hr-3hr~
    -Occasional text
-Leftover talk time in the evening, even extra emergency talk/text time

I'd really like to hear your thoughts, because this will let me know where to proceed.

I'm also looking for something that could last through the night, that means like ~10:00 AM to ~4:00 AM with even MORE of everything listed above

Might be best to get another phone like the HTC Hero or something from their company, they might be well suited for you.

I still have my iPod Touch 2G and it's working pretty well like new after a year later

Thanks for the suggestion, but its way too chunky for me, and it doesnt even have a keyboard?? Seems like an awful design. (if it does I didnt stick around to see it)

I really dont need anything with a chunky keyboard..

The more I think about it, the more having two seperate devices seems better for me... I just dont like thinking that someone will snag my itouch since its not my phone/wont be on me all the time

the iphone will need pretty frequent charging sessions (more than once per day) using it as you described. games like NOVA drain the battery life very quickly as it is, and of course playing online over wifi will chew up significant chunks if you play it for any extended period of time. it's simply unrealistic to expect it to last a day doing everything - texting, online gaming, music, etc and still expecting to have battery left to talk on the phone whenever you want. the iphone is an incredible device but battery life is a major achilles heal.

however, there's a wide variety of battery cases/external battery packs that you can buy. that's the route i've taken. I pretty much just carry an external battery pack with me wherever i go. it's a hassle but it's better than carrying two devices around IMO.

@hamstarz thanks for your input.. pretty much seems like how its going to go down.. not that I wanted to hear that :p .. do you have any recc's for external packs? and perhaps cases that fit with both? Im trying to mantain some of the amazing slimness of the iphone (maybe they should just put a liiitle more battery in there haha, its too good now)

unfortunately that is carrying to devices (imo)... bah.. where is battery technology.. where is nuclear power?!

i use the "just mobile gum pro" - do a quick search for reviews, it's solid and pretty well-regarded. can give about 2-3 full charges to your iphone. I chose not to get a battery case, so I don't really have any recommendations there. My reasoning was because 1)i didn't like the added thickness, and 2) their capacities are usually smaller than external battery packs.

I have a Mophie and I love it. Doubles your battery life, and it will remain charged for a long time till you need it. It does add a bit of weight and thickness, but I found that I got used to it pretty quickly. As an added bonus, it makes it easier for me to hold the device horizontally while gaming.

i agree... its a hard decision.. I think I may just stick with Verizon.. since my mom learned how to use her cell-phone she might be using alot of mintues now...

this really helps my decision making though, thanks... either way I get stuck lugging around two things

Not with the Mophie, but that may not be enough power to meet your needs.

I use the Mophie Juice Air hardcase/battery extender. It doubles my battery life and provide needed protection.

When I sleep, I leave my 3Gs on charge.
I downloaded nova at 10am, have been playing it frequently while also playing charadium, minigore (and others), texting, calling, browsing the net, typing this etc and my battery is on 84%

    I'd highly recommend the 3Gs :)

edit: it's 16:48 now, so that's nearly 7 hours of constant use

My 2G touch right now has to be charged at least once a day. All it uses is WiFi. Can't imagine what would happen with 3G, Edge, and phone calls.

Well, I wish I hadent deleted my battery manager app I would have screen shotted the stats for you. But the battery life is decent but not enough to meet all your needs.

I think the mophie full-case looks pretty good, it seems to be a quality one where u can access silence and stuff, the others I was looking at didnt..

now its just time to see how much we need the minutes

Well i gave my iphone to my bro after some time and got and ipod Touch 2g. I went from paying close to $130.00 a month and draining the battery out quicker and quicker as games started evolving into what they are now. I now have a phone bill less than have the price and am glad i did. My iTouch works perfectly even after close to a year later. My phone is now use for calling and texting and i have all my media on the Touch. very happy i did this...no more battery issues and i can keep my media/gaming separate with no interruptions.

I don't plan on getting another iTouch until most likely the next model if its a big overall difference.

i play games a lot on my first gen iphone (NOVA!!!), and i do a full charge while sleeping, and another midday, and i am fin because by the time it starts getting low again its time to sleep :). But remeber that the first gen does not have 3g, wich drains a lot of battery. So i would recomend to turn 3g off unless ur r using it to play online or something.
