I can't help but giggle whenever I see someone spend $12 a pack on cigarettes in NYC. With how amazingly inconvenient and incredibly expensive it is to smoke here I can't believe anyone still does it.

Some of the kids around school (if not all) smoke, and since the price is so high in New Jersey some of them actually go all the way out to Pennsylvania just to be cigarettes. It's pathetic.

    Except the tobacco companies :p

Smoking won't kill you. It increases your risk of various cancers and other ailments, and they kill you. So smoking in moderation, depending on the moderation we're talking about here, is by no means guaranteed to just "kill you slower"

i think my generation was the first to have smoking is bad in school.

i made my mom quit smoking when i was like 8.

i tried smoking it did not get me high like weed did so during high school college and what not i just did weed.

now the pain doctor keeps me plenty drugged up i do not need it. i would rather just use weed for the pain.. but i live in arizona now and it has some not so friendly laws for pot heads. the northwest where i grew up and from.. almost everyone smoked weed and laws are much friendly and cops usually did not care. even tho i never smoked it i used a vaporizer.

the weed has to be better for the body than these opiates the pain doctors have me on..

but such is life. do whatever makes you happy and long as its not hurting anyone else.. rock on.

If you have less chances for disease but you keep smoking, you'll eventually get a disease. Chances are chainsmokers will get cancer quickly relative to a moderate smoker since all those chemicals have a chance to affect a cell more times than a moderate smoker. Of course someone may get lucky or unlucky, but probability will have it that moderate smokers will develop these diseases after a chainsmoker, thus dying after a chain smoker.

I know it's not 'slower' since it's not progressive, but the chances of happening are lower, but it will happen eventually, thus makin it 'slower'

More people have a higher chance of getting cancer because of Second Hand Smoking. It's really sad.

My father is a smoker (who's desperately trying to quit) and he never smokes around the family, if he has to smoke and he's in the car he'll wait until we're there and he will take a minute to smoke.

I miss the smoking section and non-smoking sections of restaurants. I know that's random but damnit it sucks not being able to smoke indoors. Stupid non-smokers. Gotta ruin it for everyone.

I'm surprised there hasn't been more people raging against smokers here. I hate when people do that. People have begun hating smokers because ad campaigns tell them to, just like so many people began smoking because ads told them to. Think about it.

I think if people want to smoke, that's up to them. I don't see why anyone else should care. I've been tempted to start, knowing the consequences, just as a quick way to relax. Honestly, the one thing that keeps me from starting is I don't want another addiction. Coffee already has a death grip on me.

I actually like cigars a lot, but I hardly ever smoke them. There aren't a lot of good places to do it, especially since so many people find it rude to point of raging. I won't lie, the stigma keeps me from smoking much.

You'll live. Sorry to be a d!ck but you will. was a joke anyways.

I agree with this. I mean it's to the point of literal discrimination. I'm fine with it, as it is bad for you and not everyone likes to smell smoke. But Jesus Christ. GTF over it. People smoke, have for hundreds of years, and they are not goin got stop anytime soon.

I just wanted to make sure, didn't want to piss anyone off ^.^

I try to be a courteous smoker. But there are times where I wish the roles were reveresed in some places, mainly concerts. I hate not being able to smoke my ciggs at concerts man it freakin sucks. Most venues here in AZ don't really even have a patio or anything for us either. Most of the good ones do... but meh... not the same.

I dont like the idea of smoking,,but im not gonna take it out on smokers them selves...i hear its very addictive...and hard to stop...i have no problem with smokers as long as the smoke courteouly..and stuff

  20. The annoying thing about the addiction to cigarettes isn't so much the physical addiction itself; once you stop smoking completely, the physical portion of the addiction passes in a few days to a week or so -- possibly more depending on how much nicotine you are used to taking in. (2-pack-a-day smokers will take longer, obviously.) It's the emotional connection to smoking -- the relaxation (despite the fact that nicotine is a stimulant), the connection of smoking to common things (after a meal, after sex, when nervous, etc.), and the ritualized actions associated with it (grabbing one out of the pack, lighting in, the repetitious motion of taking a drag, etc.). Those last long, long after the addiction. Months, at least. It isn't as bad as alcoholism where recovering alcoholics daren't ever consider themselves recovered, but it's pretty bad in its own rights, and I'd argue that recidivism rates and the ease with which one can get back in the habit are very similar.

So yeah. Smokes are an incredibly hard habit to break. Fortunately there are a lot of different aids that can help, though it still requires willpower.
