It's great to see this old school type of game in the app store. I've enjoyed it so far. A couple things that might be helpful: 1. Being able to touch move/scroll the map around. 2. Spell/character/class/attribute definitions. To me these were self explanatory, basing off my knowledge of The Bards Tale, but I could see this being very confusing to a newcomer.
Hello Boleje, thank you very much for your suggestions. The map scrolling will be in an upcoming update, promised. The used attributes / shortcuts and the underlying D&D based ruleset is on our list of things to be done more convenient. We have to improve this, you are fully right! Regards Mario
What a blast - takes me back many years What a great find. This homage to Bards Tale on the Commodore 64 (for me anyway) is a great start and I cannot wait until the full version comes out. A couple questions; The difficulty seems fairly brutal. As I left the castle I was accosted by parties of 5 mobs, 7 rats, 2 snakes in three turns. This wiped my party out completely. Is this due to balance of the party? Or was I under prepared? Also will there be any item descriptions so that you can determine best armour, weapons etc? Thanks
Hello Luka, thank you very much! Here are the answers: The castle road will be the place to make the first two/three levels (including the tunnels). Your starting money should be enough to get your melee members an AC of around 3-4. Don't forget to cast "Disrupting winds" and to sing "Song of Life" during the first fights. This will help a lot! As you went on to the castle ridge and the abandoned watchtower, your melee members should have an AC around 0. Again, in combination with "Disrupting Winds" and the "Song of Life", this should make you well prepared for most encounters. I know, some fights are very tough - you will be pleased by the next updates (actually 1.2 hit the store today with a much greater chance of running away from tough enemies). In addition, the new incapacitated status will be of good use. I haven't determined yet where to put the item descriptions. Probably they will go into the upcoming Silversword Guide. As a rule of thumb: the more your local dealer will give you for it, the better Greetings Mario Gaida
New Update 1.5 out! For all of you who were unsure if to try it out... maybe the new update will make the game more attractive ;-) - All Settings can now be found in the "Settings" application provided by Apple - New Identify Skill for Rogues and Bards (and Shop owners) - A massive item update, don't worry, we will convert your existing items - Item stats are now shown when selecting an item out of your inventory - THAC0 is shown (this is the chance of hitting an enemy warrior of level 5, it's for you statistic freaks out there) in the character screen - Some tweaks to the "Repeat commands" feature in combat - Multiple Savegames! Upon entering the load/save screen, you will be asked if you would like to convert your existing save game to a new one - you should do this - Messages with only one exit option (such as "[ Continue ]") can now be continued by simply touching the output screen anywhere (you will love this one) - Arrow damage is now added to Bow damage - Levitation spells now overcome traps - Added some hint about the item that is needed to open the stuck secret wall in the goblin dungeons - Tweaks to the graphics, you should see a difference upon turning left/right (do you like it?) - Throwing weapons are in. They are stackable, and your party members try to get them back after fight. You can turn the proper confirmation message on/off in the settings - Lore output now waits for a keypress, so that you don't miss important information - The Poison Blade has been withdrawn from the public markets, you won't find it as loot either - but check out the herbalist Gwyddon right in front of the ruin camp - The temple now cures and resurrects again, if the proper donation is made - The star marking the regeneration fountain is now at the right spot - The secret wall outside the castle has now a hint on the outside - The Poison Blade no longer stacks (Thank you Mjolnin for pointing me to these last four issues!) Details to the other Updates can be found on the official website. Thank you for your support - your input helps me making the full version the way you'll like it! Greetings Mario
Time passes... ...even more content and technique was added over the last weeks. Perhaps you might want to give it a try with these new features in mind: - Class dependant primary stats. You want your warrior to be strong and your magician to be clever, don't you? - Race dependant special attributes - check out the new Create Character workflow in the Ruin Camp - XP calculation adjusted, you will get more for your money now! - Put some more intelligence in the Repeat Commands action - Monsters in dungeons are now fix for each visit, they are created upon entering and won't change (but in distance) - Traps will now fire only once - until you leave and enter again - Map should come up faster now - The Paladin is now a holy warrior with his own prayers - More information on your character screens - Spell information now added, just tap the spell name in your character screen - Cleaned up shop item lists and inventory - No more game shutdown on push notifications and other interruptions - Auto-Save after each combat - Switch between character screens now possible - New Reload action for characters with Bows - Combat options confirmation - Back to last action link - Chests after dungeon fights are now in, open them to receive gold and eventually items - Some temple services are now tied to your level - Selling items needs confirmation now - Doors and chests stay open - Bumping into objects now trigger their events (chests / doors etc.) - More Gold - More Sounds - More Creatures - More Bugfixes Regards Mario
Downloaded and played a bit, up to the part where I got permission to go outside, and also solved the armor merchant's rat problem. Not much else to say for now, but I'm definitely gonna be following the progress of this game.
Just alerted to this game - going to download now. But I saw on that list the options are from the Settings Menu - any chance to get them in game? I always hate leaving an app to change settings and then go back. Minor inconvenience I know, but I like to keep things neat.
Hello New England Gamer, Yes, it's an inconvenience, but for the development phase, it keeps implementing new settings easy. I promise to look into this once the full version goes live. Regards Mario P.S. I hate that, too.
Hey thanks for the quick response - and I totally understand. It makes sense now. I haven't had time to play it today but the icon has been tempting me all day. Will be giving it a go in a little bit. Look forward to it!
i've had this game forever, and just now got around to sinking some time into it. played about 2.5 hours last night. having a blast! i love the character and enemy portraits, and the whole battle system is so exciting! can't wait for the final version, so i can give you the money you deserve, whatever it is you decide! back to the game!!
Hello mekanikal fiend, thank you very much for your compliment I am happy that you could spend some good moments despite the nasty bow/arrow bug that is in the actual version. I really hope the bugfix will find its way to the store within the next few days. Back to coding Regards Mario
i realized that the bows always said no ammo even though i had like 100. ment to mention it here, but forgot. saw the update a second ago and was totally happy that it was already fixed. the only other thing i notice is sometimes (not very often) there will be a gap in the text when its asking you to fight or run. not a big deal, but thought i would mention it. also one time i was hitting the map button at the exact second i got into an encounter. the box that said one moment please was the frontmost menu over the actual fight dialog. after the fight i pressed map again and when i exited it was all good again. this game brings back great memories of old games. great job! i just got to level 3 and haven't had any character deaths yet.
As for the gap - I am looking into this. Hard to reproduce, but I know where to look. Using the map will pause the game now, that means, as soon as the next update will go live. I am still asking myself if I like it that you can reach level 3 without dying ;-) Regards Mario
Great game so far! I have discovered a small "bug". The race of the elves has a bonus of using bows. But why can't they become hunter?
