so far i have to say, i am impressed with both the story development and the length of the game.

i always expect the current mission to be the last one, and then BAM another thing happens which requires you to make another run :D

the only negative aspect now is the frequent crashes. i am playing on an old 16GB ipad mini, fully updated ios 7 and freshly rebooted. after playing one mission the game frequently crashes either by switching between the matrix and real-world scenes or upon entering the shadowrunner hiring screen…

but i will get the dlc for sure, because of all the love that went into writing, character design and capturing of the atmosphere :)

I am glad to hear that you enjoy Shadowrun Returns: Dead Man Switch so much!

We are still looking into further memory optimizations to help prevent crashing.

Maybe you could even free enough extra memory to add some rain back in ... Perhaps a drizzle instead of the full effect of the PC version? :)

I was never familiar with Shadowrun before this, and now I'm hooked! Can't wait for Dragonfall and hopefully some UGC.

    Hi HBS_Jeff,

Any update on the update (no pun intended :) )?

I'm holding off starting to play it because I don't want to risk getting stuck in a specific mission, waiting for the fix.

Speaking of UGC, I already own Shadowrun Returns on PC, but if this ever makes it to the iPad version, I will seriously consider getting it. The only problem is that the creator of the mod is constantly updating it, so would the iPad version get updated as frequently? I think that's going to be an issue complicating any of the major and GOOD mods from making their way to the iPad version.

Since we launched the game on tablets, our main focus for tablets has been cutting down memory usage. As you can imagine, this becomes more and more difficult with each new optimization we take, as there are fewer and fewer things are left that we can change.

We are confident, however, that the new save game overhaul will create a much better experience since it will alleviate the loss of progression even if we are unable to prevent all crashes. This is a bit down the road and please know that we appreciate your patience both now and going forward as we do our best to improve your play experience.

We would love to bring UGC to mobile but right now our team has their hands full with the expansion for Shadowrun Returns which is called Shadowrun: Dragonfall. After we have shipped Dragonfall to PC, Mac and Linux, our top priority will be to bring it to our mobile users. Beyond that, we will hopefully get some time to widen our mobile experience with some choice UGC.

    Hi HBS_Jeff,

Certainly, I do understand that. My concern is actually with the issues Nekku brought up in the previous page, in which he was getting blocked in a mission, and which you said that the developers had been able to reproduce and would be fixed in the next patch.

Are they game-breakers, and do they happen on all devices? Are those missions part of the main story line? Do they occur early in the game, or later?

    Cheers.

    Dear Developer,

I'm also wondering if the patch will be out soon and if the price will stay the same until then. I just bought the Mac version from steam. Was going to buy the IOS version until I seen the reviews.

If the second episoide is free or discounted with this version would tempt me to buy the game now.

I'm replaying this game with a mage character this time, and I realized that I did not give an impression for this game yet.

For me this game is a masterpiece. It's easily among my all time favourite RPGs like Baldur's Gate or Final Fantasy 6/7.

The story is great full of twists and turns, the music and graphics are very nice too.
The save system is ok for me, but a revised version would help anyone who has crashes.

On an iPad 4, iOS 7.0.2 I did not have any crashes so far, only some bugs and lags, but those're managable.

Some of the bugs I've come across:

In the mission where we fight the
Brotherhood's unkillable bug creatures the first time (when chasing Jessica Watts and rescuing Marie-Louise)
any magic attack we do has a big lag. So we cast it, the game waits a lot, and after some time the magic animation appears. This has never happened in any other missions, so maybe that mission is more memory heavy.

    Also, when we
go to Eric Silverstar's office to get the Aegis sample from the safe, the game automatically change the main character's clothes to the default one, but he should be dressed up as a Janitor. :)

All in all I REALLY look forward to Dragonfall and the "Best of UGC" on iPad. I'm willing to pay full price for them.

Any news of a price drop with the next installment? I'm assuming the next one will be its own standalone app?

I just got my first iPad. Mini retina 32gb. So excited to be able to see the screen properly for my gaming! Of course I bought FTL and Baldurs Gate 2 straight away. Should I buy this as I heard it was prone to crashing on Mini on release. Can anybody comment if the issues are now fixed?

    Thanks guys for any help.

I ended up getting a hold of my iPad 2 after about a year in a half of letting somebody use it full time.

Is this game playable on iPad 2 or is the crashing mentioned a few months ago still an issue?

Mini Retina? I've also played it on my MiniR and didn't had one single crash in two playthroughs. Nothing. I've only encountered two bugs (dunno if they are already fixed) but it's possible to work around them easily. Nothing gamebraking.
And yes, it's a darn good rpg.

btw, grats to your new MiniR :D
