The art really looks amazing - WC3 like, but if there are some attack animations, I would certainly insta-buy this one.
Different attacks will have different animations. For example the Infernal Gargoyle has a claw attack, so you will see the card move toward its target, an animated 3-claw red slash appears on the target, damage number floats up. Then the enemy counter-attacks with a sword, you see an animated swinging sword, a shield icon pops up indicating 1 damage is blocked due to the Gargoyle's Stoneskin. Everything is OpenGL accelerated, and you can tap on any card on the playing field to get a full-screen view. The strategy in Shadow Era is more similar to Magic The Gathering rather than the extremely simple Moonga or Urban Rivals. Although it is still easy to play, as the interface is simple and cards that can be currently played are highlighted...
I've been playing your games since the old B&W Palm days. Good times... Can't wait for this one to come out, but some video or screenshots would be nice.
looking forward to the game! i really like your business model, especially that there is a way to get cards without buying the card packs. don't get me wrong i plan to buy a few packs but i hate it when it is the only way to get cards like in moonga. when you talk about fighting against "shadow warriors" i guess that means computer ai? would be great to have that option although it will still be with online connection required i suppose. otherwise (if everything is stored locally) you could have an exploitable system (even for people without a jailbreak. everyone can alter files in ipas if they aren't encrypted). of course one of the most important aspects will be the balance. i hope oyu have experienced people for that. and btw. don't make the same mistake as moonga and put the name of the artist on every single card. i definitely appreciate their art and they should get due credit for it but not on the beautifully crafted cards themselves.
I mean this with the utmost respect: the card design looks mediocre next to such good, detailed art. You should think about redesigning them.
The artist signature is part of the image in the lower right corner, in case you missed it! I agree, the card framework is mostly a placeholder right now until the art is finalized. There will be faction banners, more decorative trim, etc
Subscribed this thread, very interesting. Having IMMENSELY enjoyed and enjoying iWesnoth is a plus (where's the update Apple!!!)
nice , i think boosters should have 1 rare , 2 or 3 uncommons and 7/8 commons per pack , like most real CCG. If you stick with 1$ price per booster i think you'll have some success on your store (mine included ;b ) On moonga a 7 cards boosters with 1 rare is priced 4€ ... a shame, but as long as it works they'll probably won't decrease the price... let's wait then...
Awesome a card game that looks amazing. I'm a fan of magic the gathering, and if this is like it, it's an insta-buy from me. I'm not sure if this is too early, but are you expecting an release date, and will there be online multiplayer or just bluetooth or even both?
For a game like this world-wide multiplayer is a important factor. And, you should make boosters with different card sets, like Magic: the gathering. And, in each booster there should be 1 rare card, 3 uncommon cards and 6 common cards.
Yes, the game is played like an MMO, it is "online only". Your cards are kept on the server, or else it would be too easy to cheat! You can play missions against the Shadow Warriors (special AI monster decks), challenge another player's deck (and play offline against AI), or real-time against a live player. The game is still at least 2-3 months away from release, as you can imagine there is a lot of art required, and I spared no expense!
You had me at "Like Magic the Gathering" If this game is a quarter of what I'm hoping for, you'll have provided my new gaming crack
I don't know about online only...would defeat the purpose of "play anywhere" for those poor iPod Touch users.
I was actually confused by Kyle's comment - he said online only, but then later he said play offline against AI. Maybe what he meant was that multiplayer play was online only (as opposed to local wifi or bluetooth), but that single player online and offline are also included.
Offline play would definitely be an important factor if I was looking at the game. Surely we can have our cake and eat it as well!
Sorry about that, to clarify, the game has three modes: Offline play - you can complete missions against enemy AI that uses special monster decks Online challenge - pick another player to challenge, and play against their deck controlled by AI. The other player does not have to be online, but you have to be online to retrieve the list of players at your skill level, and their current deck. Think of this like a Mafia Wars type challenge. Online real-time - play against another live player in real time In addition, when you are awarded new card packs, you will need to connect to the internet to retrieve your new cards, since they live on the server to prevent cheating.
You should divide the boosters into different sets, just like they do in Magic: the gathering, so when you have all the cards in one set, I should be able to start collecting card from another set. And, you should add a card swap function, so you can trade cards with others.
I really can't reiterate enough that the best thing you can do is get some experienced MTG players to beta test this and give you feedback on balance issues. (I am not one of those people)
