Thanks, but can you make it so the ships are on a transparent background like the first image that was posted? Save the image first and then open it, because at the moment it's hard to put the image with a black background over the top of the background. Of course I could be doing something wrong or you could just put it on top of the blue background instead...
I only have Paint Shop Pro XI not Photo Shop so I can open .jpg, .gif, .pspimage, .png, .psd, .svg and some more...
Thanks! I really like the look of this one: I basically just put the image you gave me on top of the background jshmrsn gave. It looks pretty good and I think with a bit of tweaking could actually be used as the icon. I'll have to see what jshmrsn thinks about it.-
Ok this is just a round up of all the icons that have been posted so far to make things easier to see: The first icon with the blue glow actually looks pretty good now I've looked at it again!
Personally I hate icons that aren't a rounded square. They mess up the screen's composition. I really like the borders around icons, like Lock n' Roll, Tumblr, etc. Simple but colourful icons work too, such as Scoops and my favourite, FlickIt. As for SciFly's icon I would suggest putting a border around the second icon in the above post.
I like the first one the best, the one with the transparent background except for the blue glow outline of the jet. That just catches my attention.
Wow, thanks to all you guys for the great feedback. But, special UBER thank you to Palfince and Der-Kleine for your work. I'm very impressed! I've gotta run, meeting with a friend to discuss some stuff. It's still so confusing since eventually it comes down to a matter of personal opinion on a per-user basis. A lot of people like the first blue-glow icon, but it doesn't fallow conventions, so many people wont like for that valid reason. I think your are definitely going in a good new direction. I hope we can get them to work for real. My only issue right now is that red and blue have a hard time mixing, although your attempts look better than what I've done. Hopefully there will be some trick that will make them go together well. Anyway, g2g for now. Thanks again!

I'll try to come up with a 2D graphic of the thrusters soon. It's definitely needed. Meanwhile... look what I found Doesn't look similar to http://scifly2.com at all... Also, I was just thinking maybe the icon's background should be a green island below the horizon, and then blue sky above the horizon. The red ship would go well over the green island and the yellow thrusters would go well over the blue. I'll try to draft that up today, but I'm off to breakfast for now. Thanks again everyone
That's annoying. Yeah, I think that the icon would look much better with a green island in the background and thruster flames will make everything more exciting. I'm always a fan of games with a good icon.
Yes, that's alot better! maybe look on the internet for a picture of a boost flame that you can edit into thisone. Anyway now without the glow the plane looks alot sharper (and faster ).
I was just looking through some of the icons on my phone and thinking about trends. It seems to me that blue is a very popular color, almost over used. I really like the contrast that yellow has with the black background. Real Racing and the little bit on Star Defense really pop out at me. I think green would be a nice color to have as well. One thing is to make sure the colors are bright and not washed out. There has been some great work in this thread. I hope you find one you like, and one that really makes people want to buy your game when it comes out. Here are some drafts I came up with using some different colors. I left the backgrounds transparent so others could add to them and do whatever they wanted. Edits made using Pixelmator.
