Stronsay Well-Known Member Aug 6, 2015 987 230 43 #14 Stronsay, Jun 24, 2016 Have spent some time with this now, including 3 times through the tutorial to get everything comitted to memory! I find this sort of app riveting, but then I'm interested in astronomy, orbital mechanics and all that good stuff. As can be seen, at heart it's a technical simulator, and hence it's a slow, contemplative game. No Star Wars type action here. The idea is to manage a satellite business, taking on contracts to earn money and reputation. You start with one satellite and a couple of instruments and can launch a maximum of six after earing sufficient credits. Various scientific instruments will need to be equipped to fulfil missions. The deep space photography missions are fairly straitforward as line of sight is less of an issue. Earth survey and orbital junk removal are trickier, usually requiring some maneuvering, which consumes costly fuel. I enjoy taking down the space junk with the kinetic laser, though it's a slow process - gradually degrading its orbit until it burns up in the atmosphere. In addition don't forget to monitor condition of your satellites, which can overheat and run out of fuel or battery power. If not careful your satellite can become stranded in orbit and susbsequently become a junk removal mission. Not good for enhancing reputation. Even worse it may disintegrate resulting in a heavy fine. Also be sure to keep those solar panels facing towards the sun to maintain batteries. And did I mention hull degradation from impacting space debris? This can be repaired by rendezvous with a space staion, where other instruments can also be bought and equipped. Clearly a lot of work has gone into this app, especially the photo-realistic graphics. The interface works well and everything has been organised into just a few compact menus. Overall I'd have to say this is one for hard-core astronomers and astrophysicists rather than gamers, but no harm in trying to broaden one's horizons. Something not mentioned in the tutorial but in the occasional small print tips - if a change is required to a satellite's orbital altitude or inclination - the quickest and most fuel efficient way to do this is to commence burn when it is positioned at either the apogee or perigee points of the orbit, marked as Ap and Pe. hellscaretaker Well-Known Member May 27, 2012 1,098 6 38 Im a youtube gamer/streamer https://www.youtube.com/user/touchgameplay #19 hellscaretaker, Jun 28, 2016 Last edited: Jun 29, 2016 this game is unique as it's not something i have seen before on the app store. While the tutorial will do its best to cover some basics it doesn't cover how to dock with the space station or how to change your orbit when you need arises So often a game would result in a reset simply because i messed up with not knowing what i should be doing. I ended up contacting the team behind the game to ask for some guidance and seems im not the only one thats struggling with some of the "complex concepts of the game", they told me a tutorial video series is planned and a patch as well that "hopefully fix some of these issues" So in the mean time if you want a real hard challenge then satellite command will fit the bill 100%, this a space simulation hard core game. Hopefully the fixes will make the game more accessible then just to people that are astronomers and astrophysicists as one poster has said BaldTurkeyLeg New Member May 9, 2012 3 0 1 #20 BaldTurkeyLeg, Feb 17, 2018 Anyone know what happened to this game? I bought it in 2016 but it didnt run well on my old iPad. Now that I have a newer one, I cant find it in the US App Store, nor in my purchased list. Anyone know whats up?
