    TheFrost,

Sure thing. I'll send you a PM once it's ready as well. Most likely be the end of next weekend the final beta should be good for testing.

Any chance of making it compatible with more devices?

    christopherrocs,

I'd love to support as many devices as possible. Running Quest is currently supported on :

iPhone 4s, iPhone 5, iPhone 5c, iPhone 5s, iPad2,3,4,Air, iPad mini and iPad mini w/ retina, iPod touch 5th gen

Not supported: iPhone 3gs, 4, iPod touch 3rd/4th gen, iPad 1

If at all possible I would absolutely love to support iPhone 4 and iPod touch 4th gen but as of now it's not possible. I still have a lot of work to do to stay on top of production and see the game releases on schedule. The problem with the other devices is lack of processing power. They don't pack the punch that newer devices do. The game is heavily optimized but the amount of AI for the enemies demands a lot of processing power. The particle FX also cause a bit of slowdown. The problem really does come from the enemy AI. The game has lots of mathematical calculations to check distance and rotation and the enemies don't just stand around waiting to get hit ... they react to your actions. I thought it would just be nice to let you know why the game isn't supported, rather than just saying "NO! I will not support older devices! :)." However, if I can improve performance by disabling all shadows, particle FX, and heavily compress textures, the visuals would be knocked down a bit but the game MIGHT be able to run on iPhone 4, with enemy AI as is. I will definitely do some testing on this after the final beta. Unfortunately as of now at least you know some of the problems and why I can't support those devices. I truly will do whatever I can to change this in the future. I hate to exclude potential players because they don't have one of the latest devices.

    ste86uk,

Thanks for the comment. I absolutely love Running Quest. It's a freaking blast to play and I had a hell of a lot of fun designing it and programming it (well not the debugging but hey, it's part of the process! :)). If it works out, I will also plan to update tons of content, new "side stories" with awesome looking environments, weapons, armor sets, abilities etc. I will also be in touch w/ any fans of the game from touch arcade forums, facebook etc. Wherever I gain interest. I plan to create polls asking players what types of environments they would like to see based on certain options I give, what types of weapons or abilities. And then implement updates based on user feedback. I'd like to give people a game that I love, but that they will love too. I didn't spend over 2,000 hours making this game to put out a piece of crap after all :)

Well as long as you try to support my iPod 4, it's better then some devs would do. Good luck!

    Another video! (Upgrades/Features)

Hey guys, this video shows some of the upgrades and features of Running Quest from the menu screens. I'm revamping certain parts of the game and I'm still polishing other parts still, so final beta should be coming in about a week. I'd love to get any feedback, and I will be happy to answer any questions.

    Final beta and Thanks!

To those that sent me PM's about being in the final beta, I will be in touch with you later this weekend as I hope to start the beta on Monday. I will send you all PM's by the end of the weekend with more details. Thanks again for your interest and I'm pushing hard this weekend to get it finished up. As always your tips, feedback etc will always be taken into account. I have made dozens of changes based on comments received thus far. So I thank you for that. More info coming soon!

Looking forward to hopefully try the game in beta, my only feedback there is I actually like set 2 more than the third set. I lor chunky armour on a warrior rather than form fitting but that's probably just a personal choice.

2000 hours though! That's a lot of time

FYI, I think the rewards for challenges should be automatically claimed upon completion. I think many players may find it tedious to sift through UI to get their reward, especially a majority of the Temple Run playing community

Also, glad to see you put in a no revive leaderboard :)

I agree somewhat sometimes it can be a pain if your constantly doing it but sometimes it's nice to see where you are with some and what you got. I hate it on games when it's automatic and it flashes by so quick while your busy playing you don't know what you achieved anyway.

    About the leaderboards:

    JCho133:

You bring up a good point, but I did design the system to be more like what ste86uk said in his last post:

Most of the coin and gems earned are long term goals and will reward you as you level up. And as far as in-game rewards go there are not dozens upon dozens of in-game rewards. Most of the achievements in game center are not the same as the in-game achievements so you don't gain lots of coin and gems for the game center ones. there are 49 achievements in game center. I will continue to add more in-game rewards for other challenges, and the challenges are definitely a fun feature to the game, but the game does not rely on the challenges to keep a player coming back for more. That's a big thing that Running Quest does different. The goal in RQ is to upgrade your character and there is a little mini story too. There is a boss battle with a small cutscene after you defeat the boss at which point you will unlock nightmare mode and run through a TRUE CHALLENGE! So if it's challenges you want, defeat the boss and play nightmare mode... it won't get much more challenging than that! With that said, as you level up and your character becomes more powerful you will be able to reach nightmare mode easier. So just to recap: the challenges are there and are fun, and many are long-term goals, but the game is not centered around this. It's similar to Infinity Blade 3 (incredible game btw... if you have not played it... go get it!) where you have to collect your rewards. Only there isn't an absolutely insane amount that you have to keep checking back on your progress. Once you level up it's prob a good idea to check them... just see where you're at. I think it's balanced pretty well.

Anyhow, thank you for the suggestion! As more challenges get implemented over time I may implement an updated system more along the lines of your suggestion. Definitely something to think about for more expansion :)

Wow I completely forgot IB3 did that haha

And sorry if I wasn't very clear, but I meant for you to keep the menu with the challenges and progress, but just to make the reward collecting automatic.

But yeah I see how the way it is now works best with the system you have in place. May I suggest putting a notification badge on the icon that takes you to the Challenges menu when you have rewards to collect?

JCho133, Great idea! Simple and won't take long to implement. I will add a notification badge to the Challenges Icon when rewards are available to collect. I have my work cut out for me this weekend, so it may not make it into final beta that's being put out this coming Monday. But I will 100% make sure that gets included in the final game (post beta).

Also, every time you gain a new level, once you die and the game over screen pops up you will automatically earn a new reward for leveling up. Every level the rewards get better (beyond being able to upgrade your armor, weapons and abilities).

    Awesome! Glad I could help!

And these rewards are coins/gems right?

yup coins are used to upgrade your armor, abilities, and weapons. The game really is structured well w/ the coins. You don't gain a lot at first from killing enemies so it may feel like a grind. Until you level up and realize : ok I got a ton of coins for leveling up. Then you check out your challenges and collect a few rewards and realized you just got a bunch for that too. Plus there are special abilities that will drop extra coin. And as you level up your weapons your thievery increases, thus dropping more coin as well. I like to think we really give it away. But by the time a player has leveled up to max and has gotten max abilities, weapons and armor, the next update will hopefully be out and ready for some new content :)

Gems are used to revive. Now of course you don't have to use gems if you're shooting for a high score on the no-revive leaderboard. But they can be nice to accumulate when you want to run and experience a lot more of the game. There is a good learning curve with some recent changes I've made. The game seemed to be too hard for other beta testers so I leveled it out a bit and now it seems much more playable for those that aren't a master at the game yet. But it still gradually gets harder and faster in each world and the boss fight is no pushover. Plus nightmare mode is well.... nightmare mode and I'm sure lots of people will use up gems just to get there to see it. You return back to world 1... but things are different. I won't spoil it... but it's nightmarishly fun (yes I know that's not a word) :)

I really like the idea if the thievery upgrade, it's a nice touch. And yes the currency earning rate is very important for a premium release, you risk getting a bad rep if it's super grindy

Do you guys already have ideas for the next class? And archer would be pretty cool. I would say wizard as well but an old guy running would be kinda weird...

    I also like the inclusion of the nightmare mode, I think Exact Psience will appreciate that one (;

Yup I know all about premium vs freemium and we could have gone the freemium route if we wanted to. But to make money as a freemium game we would have had to be very pushy w/ IAP (made the coins extremely hard to gain, possibly added timers, increased difficulty dramatically between worlds). Otherwise people don't buy much of anything. I think it's better to offer a greater game experience rather than an addictive grind, where you find yourself only playing b/c of the grind. The game plays like a premium game. There are no surprises there. In an industry moving heavily towards free to play it's a tough decision to go premium. Ask any developer. But if you have a quality product then people will eventually pull those hard earned dollars out and pick it up. As long as we focus on a great experience and listen to our players, I think Running Quest will gain momentum. And that's why we went premium. There is a grind, just like in World of Warcraft: kill enemies, level up... kill more enemies.. level up. But it's fun and I don't think you should feel like you have to buy anything to progress (some people like to and they can if they want). The game is structured like older MMO's like Everquest, not the newer Free to Play stuff. Final beta is about to start and I will gather more opinion about the leveling up, coin etc to make sure everything is balanced before release.

And yes, thievery is cool. But there's more ways to gain coin besides that too. Treasure chests randomly appear and can contain gold and you also gain an ability to help w/ gold accumulation.

    next class

I missed the 2nd part of your question too:

There are several ideas for additional playable characters. I will probably release a poll eventually asking for player feedback on which classes they think would be cool additions. I don't want to spoil anything yet as we haven't reached that point and everything is only concept, but we do have some cool ideas that we'll throw out eventually after launch.

Is beta begins tell starting Monday? I messaged you my testflight email already, just excited because I'm off work all week starting Monday!

There are so many classes I'd love to see in the game even without having played it and I'm sure different classes you could mix up the play style a bit with them...although I feel bad talking about extra content when the game isn't even out yet!

Oh and also you mentioned WoW do you think you'll ever add extra character armour sets in future to get and upgrade or will 3 be the limit? Just wondered if you'd make any WoW kind of armour sets : ) and yes....sadly I am in WoW withdrawal it's been 4/5 years since I played and starting to sorely miss it.
