Yeah, just because it's an classic style game doesn't mean Gamevil can't put in fun gameplay twists. Some of my favorite games (Braid, PvZ, World of Goo) change the formula countless times. Those aren't RPGs, though, so I don't know what I'm rambling about.
If you happen to have iDOS, Ultima IV works fine on that. It may also work on Best of FTA, but I can't confirm that. Native games that you may want to check out otherwise (if you haven't already) are The Quest, Undercroft and Dragon Bane II. Those are the most Western/traditional of the RPG games out there right now. The Quest is similar to Elder Scrolls Arena (but turn based), Undercroft is similar to Eye of the Beholder and Dragon Bane II is similar to Bard's Tale.
