the problem here is that the genre has escalated in visuals beyond what was possible before, therefor creating a more effective atmosphere for today's gamers. however, at the time of retro horror games like these, the visuals are extremely similar. gaze upon the visual horrors of what is considered the grandaddy of survival horror, and the original resident evil, sweet home. spooky, right? not really. but this is completely ignoring the other fantastic staples of the horror genre. limited supplies so you're constantly pressured as to whether you should fight or run, excellent storylines, great sound design(which is supremely more important in horror than people think), and of course, the puzzles! these all come together to create a fun and unique experience not often offered in other genres. this project looks to capture the exact feeling of those old school horror games that i personally grew up with. it's either something that you will get, or you'll just scoff at in disgust. if you fall into the latter, it's very likely that the game wasn't aimed at you to begin with, and you probably missed out on the humble beginnings of horror in video games. i on the other hand look at a project like this and smile. i also applaud a 14 year old showing his interests in such a title in this day and age heheh
I just played Save the Picnic, and I like some of the art and stuff, it gets pretty challenging past wave 5, I can see that one on my iPod for a while!
Oh yeah, I remember Sweet Home... I only played a bit but it seemed pretty creepy. But still, while that may have been scary, it can always be scarier. Adding atmosphere can always make a game just that much more engaging and gripping, not to mention creepy. As long as you can get some decently dark and depressing locations, the game has just been improved greatly.
Now I'm not trying to get the dev to conform to sales trends, but it would even just make the game that much more fun to play and something that more people would enjoy, which is usually a developer's intentions. The alterations I suggested so far have been nothing but suggestions, not commands, and would again do nothing but benefit the game greatly.
I think the main problem here, it's because I screwed up the title post, I'm not making a resident evil remake, as much people think. I'm trying to make a game with the same style, that's why I called clone. With a clone I mean the zombies, a huge map/mansion, NPCS to talk, few supplys, so you can't kill anything that moves, all the things in resident evil, from a new perspective. I agree the graphics are not awesome, so it's better for me to pass on this project because I don't have money to pay for a skilled pixel artist to sell nothing more than 30-50 copies as my previous games.
