I love the classic British comedies, fawlty towers, only fools and horses, vicar of dibley....... But my real favourite show from england is by far Doctor Who. I love it so much and I really hope there are others here who do too. Matt smith was great this year and I never doubted him.
I find the I.T Crowd and The Office (well, both versions really) hilarious. As for comedians, Eddie Izzard and Michael McIntyre are among my favourites. Oh, and Dara O Briain, dunno if he counts as British though.
I think that's probably what it is that I never liked about him; he doesn't seem to think he's done his job until he's thoroughly murdered a joke, which also seems to involve taking extensive side trips to find them. I had the hots for Leela and Romana (the Lalla Ward incarnation).
Mentioned that one already. First to third. Blackadder Goes Fourth was good, but for some reason it just didn't seem quite as funny as the first three.
Goes Forth was awesome. Stephen Fry as General Melchett is classic, sums up the idiotic WWI upper ranks perfectly. Won quite a few awards for the touching final episode too. I'd say the first series is the weakest, portraying Blackadder as a drivelling idiot doesn't quite have the same impact.
Well, the first for me kind of served as the progression into the second and third -- a kind of evolution of Blackadder, so you kind of have to take it with the rest of the series. Blackadder's Mr. Bean phase, if you will. Goes Forth was still good, I suppose I just didn't really care for the setting. Also, Lord Flashheart rocked. "Like the beard! Gives me something to hang on to!" [/pelvic thrust]
Top Gear is pretty good. It's obvious how they set things up, but it's still funny. I also like "James May's Big Ideas" and "Richard Hammond's (aka the Hamster) Engineering connections". Shame about Jeremy Clarkson though - he's just a big idiot.
Ah man, I love Clarkson (and Top Gear obviously). Anyone who can piss so many people off with such ease is awesome, controversy is a plus in my book. He doesn't take any crap, he knows what he believes and he's not afraid to stick up for it. He is a big idiot, but that's part of the charm, beneath the senile exterior lies quite a humourous, intelligent guy. His columns/books are great too. James May is awesome just for being old fashioned and an easy target. I'm liking Hammond a little less than I used to, his line delivery seems a bit forced sometimes, like he still needs to shake off his OTT radio DJ persona. I wouldn't change any of them though, they're a great team. 350 million viewers worldwide FTW
I think Hammond's over-enthusiasm is kinda his 'thing', like the others have. Plus, it's funny seeing him being picked on for being short. Clarkson is kinda like a troll of television; to some people he's funny, but others think he's just a dick. I find him pretty funny though, I've read one of two of his books.
Top Gear plays too much like an auto industry infomercial for me. No wonder they crank out ten series a year or whatever it is. Saxondale is brilliant however.
What do you expect it to sound like? Three people discussing boats and hating on cars? If you're surprised to turn on a car show and see some guys telling you which cars are good then you're a little strange to be honest.
Actually there are some great current/recent shows right now. It crowd, The inbetweeners, the office, Little britian, spaced, Top gear, Life on Mars/Ashes to Ashes(Thought they were brilliant) and various panel shows. There is alot of crap that clutters up tv as well though(Mostly katie price shows on itv 2)
The Office, Little Britain and Spaced aren't current TV... repeats maybe, but I was talking about new programming.
I really like top gear..ive seen tons of clips on youtube..i just love them...but i dont no where to see full episodes
You said it sounds like an infomercial, i.e. people trying to sell you cars through information and promotion. I asked if you expected to see a car programme where people weren't promoting various cars and providing information. If you did, you're a weird guy. Clear enough?
