    Hey guys,

I am thinking of try to sell some old things that i no longer use in order to try to get some spending money to either get a PS3 or an Alienware Gaming Laptop.

Now, it'll depend on how much money i make from selling my stuff, but which is better for gaming? I love the portability of a laptop, been wanting a gaming 'rig' for quite some time now, but i've also always wanted to have that 'Real Console Experience' (i have a Wii, which, IMO, isn't a console.) to be able to play with friends and such.

The things that i plan to sell are:
-My PSP 2000 Slim...i have a few games, beat them all, and i only use it on really longs trips (4 hour car ride trips, and such), so i barley use it anymore.
-Both my original DS and DS lite, with all of its 45 games, and almost everything that came with them. Not much to explain here.

I'll probably add a few more things to the Sell List as time goes by.

Should i check eBay for a price range, and try to sell it online (since Gamestop and those type of stores rip you off by about 90% of its worth) or just wait till my birthday (December 18) and ask for one of the two as a BIG present, and nothing else. Maybe MW2, but that's it as far as presents go.

Any ideas? Opinions? Sorry for the long post! I don't want to regret my decision later on. :p

If you are more interested in playing mostly real-time strategy games or big world rpg games and mmo's, I'd recommend Alienware PC laptop. If you like console style jrpgs like FF13, action games and racing games, then PS3 might be more right for you. How come you are not considering an xbox360?

Because i don't have the money to pay for LIVE (let alone the console or PC!)

Oh, and i'm planning to play (mainly) shooters/FPS games like MW2, ModernWarfare, Borderlands, etc.

The Alienware for sure. Better graphics, mouse and keyboard (plus really nice Alienware gaming ones), and Crysis. That's all you need.

    Alright, thanks Bat!

One thing: Money is obviously an issue here. Should i wait another year for the Alienware laptop, since after all, it IS $800 base price (on the m11x) and the PS3 is $300.

My NEW question; should i sell my PSP and DS, listed in the first post? That so far is my only way of making money...and i have about $120 in an envelope at home. Too young to get a job here. :(

If you don't use your PSP or DS, and mostly your iPod instead, then go for it. I'd get an Alienware now if I were you; Crysis 2 is coming out this year and I'm guessing it'll be ****ing amazing.

If you are not eager for PS3 exclusives, the laptop is definitely the way to go.

Only reason why i mention xbox360 is because it's much more popular among multiplayer crowd.

I don't recommend selling the ds and psp unless you really think you have no more use for them ever and you want to get some extra cash by selling them, just because sometimes a good game might pop up and make you wish you kept them.

I'd go with the Alienware too. I find that playing FPSs on the PC is much better with the mouse compared to using a joystick. Although it's kinda weird playing Crisis on an 11" screen and IMO, it kind of shouts 'Steal Me!' to everyone.

Personally, I'd go for a PS3. It just seems simpler. You have a console, the console plays game, you have multiplayer, and it's as easy as that. No need to install games, find the right patch, make sure your video card is compatible, etc. You also get to play in 1080i glory! Not to mention you can plug in a mouse and keyboard to the PS3.

    ...

    I'm so confused...

A good gaming laptop will run you $2500 minimum, a PS3 will run you 300. They're completely different price points. I see you mentioning some $800 "gaming laptop." I can assure you that an $800 laptop will not perform up to expectations, and that price tag means it's probably bottom of the barrel with very low RAM and a crap video card.

Honestly, if you want a gaming DESKTOP you could do great with an $800 budget, but a well-performing laptop will run you at least three times that much.

EDIT: I just looked at the specs... 2 gigs of RAM, a 5400 RPM harddrive (they still MAKE those?!), 11 inch screen, no DVD drive whatsoever, with a 1.3 GHz processor? That's pretty terrible. Worse specs than my three year old Macbook Pro.

i personally say go with the ps3 espically since 3d gaming is just what months away also the free online play and great games make it a keeper.Aand i thought the m11x is 1000$ or are you buying it used ?

You seem to be focused mainly on gaming, so if you ask me a games console makes the best choice. They're the primary platforms for the majority of developers these days.

Yeah. This. They're enormous wastes of money to get a "good" one, literally three times as much as an equivalent desktop system, which will still outperform it because laptops can't handle heat.

Hodapp, did you actually look at the one he had in mind? It's $800 and has the specs of a wal-mart PC only with an 11 inch screen and a relatively decent video card shoehorned into it.

For $800, you can get a MUCH better desktop PC which will serve as the foundation for years of cheap upgrades... versus an $800 Wal-Mart laptop which will be worth absolutely nothing inside of a few months. ;)

I still kind of think if you're just looking to game, an XBOX 360 and HDTV is a much better investment. Pretty much all the non-MMORPG gamers I know these days gave up their PC's for 360's long ago.

Build your own PC, it's easy, cheaper, you won't regret.

It's definitely not easier. Whoever's manufacturing your PC don't care if the parts you selected don't aren't compatible, they'll just stuff them in anyways. You'll end up with a heavy box that does what you want half the time, and light itself on fire the other half. Unless you're freakin' SpiffyOne, get something prebuilt.
